⁵ David sent messengers to the people of Jabesh-gilead and said to them, “May you be blessed by the Lord, because you showed this loyalty to Saul your lord and buried him!^(A)

²¹ Saul said, “May you be blessed by the Lord for showing me compassion!^(A)

³² David said to Abigail, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who sent you to meet me today!^{(A) 33} Blessed be your good sense, and blessed be you, who kept me today from bloodguilt and from avenging myself by my own hand!

¹⁹ For who has ever found an enemy and sent the enemy safely away? So may the Lord reward you with good for what you have done to me this day.

²⁰ Then Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “Blessed be he by the Lord, whose kindness has not forsaken the living or the dead!” Naomi also said to her, “The man is a relative of ours, one of our nearest kin.”^[a](A)

¹⁰ He said, “May you be blessed by the Lord, my daughter; this last instance of your loyalty is better than the first; you have not gone after young men, whether poor or rich.

⁸ But Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go back each of you to your mother’s house. May the Lord deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead and with me.^(A)
