³² Then they took up Asahel and buried him in his father’s tomb, which was in ^(A)Bethlehem. And Joab and his men went all night, and they came to Hebron at daybreak.

Jehoram Reigns in Judah^(A)

21 And ^(B)Jehoshaphat ^[a]rested with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the City of David. Then Jehoram his son reigned in his place.

¹⁴ They buried him in his own tomb, which he had ^[a]made for himself in the City of David; and they laid him in the bed which was filled ^(A)with spices and various ingredients prepared in a mixture of ointments. They made ^(B)a very great burning for him.

^13 (A)Jesse begot Eliab his firstborn, Abinadab the second, ^[a]Shimea the third, ¹⁴ Nethanel the fourth, Raddai the fifth, ¹⁵ Ozem the sixth, and David the ^(B)seventh.

¹⁶ Now their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. ^(C)And the sons of Zeruiah were Abishai, Joab, and Asahel—three.

David Reigns over All Israel^(A)

5 Then all the tribes of Israel ^(B)came to David at Hebron and spoke, saying, “Indeed ^(C)we are your bone and your flesh.

⁵⁸ And Saul said to him, “Whose son are you, young man?”

So David answered, ^(A)“I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.”
