The Battle of Gibeon

¹² Abner son of Ner and the servants of Ishbaal^[a] son of Saul went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.^(A)

²⁵ Gibeon, Ramah, Beeroth,

⁴ “Come up and help me, and let us attack Gibeon, for it has made peace with Joshua and with the Israelites.”^(A)

² he^[a] became greatly frightened, because Gibeon was a large city, like one of the royal cities, and was larger than Ai, and all its men were warriors.

³ But when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and to Ai,^(A)

¹⁴ Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel.” For the Lord had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, so that the Lord might bring ruin on Absalom.^(A)

¹² On the day when the Lord gave the Amorites over to the Israelites, Joshua spoke to the Lord, and he said in the sight of Israel,

² when Jacob saw them he said, “This is God’s camp!” So he called that place Mahanaim.^[a](A)
