²⁴ And ^(A)Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king. He had neither taken care of his feet nor trimmed his beard nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came back in safety.

^3 (A)Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body.

^15 (A)Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.

Fasting

¹⁶ “And ^(A)when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. ^(B)Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.

⁵ eighty men arrived from ^(A)Shechem and ^(B)Shiloh and ^(C)Samaria, with ^(D)their beards shaved and ^(E)their clothes torn, and ^(F)their bodies gashed, ^(G)bringing grain offerings and incense to present at the temple of the Lord.

³ And the king said, “And where is your master's son?” ^(A)Ziba said to the king, “Behold, he remains in Jerusalem, for he said, ‘Today the house of Israel will give me back the kingdom of my father.’”

³⁰ But David went up the ascent of the Mount of Olives, weeping as he went, ^(A)barefoot and ^(B)with his head covered. And all the people who were with him covered their heads, and they went up, ^(C)weeping as they went.

⁶ And ^(A)Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, son of Saul, came to David and fell on his face and paid homage. And David said, “Mephibosheth!” And he answered, “Behold, I am your servant.” ⁷ And David said to him, “Do not fear, ^(B)for I will show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan, and I will restore to you all the land of Saul your father, and ^(C)you shall eat at my table always.” ⁸ And he paid homage and said, “What is your servant, that you should show regard for ^(D)a dead dog such as I?”

⁹ Then the king called Ziba, Saul's servant, and said to him, “All that belonged to Saul and to all his house I have given to your master's grandson. ¹⁰ And you and your sons and your servants shall till the land for him and shall bring in the produce, that your master's grandson may have bread to eat. But Mephibosheth your master's grandson ^(E)shall always eat at my table.” Now Ziba had ^(F)fifteen sons and twenty servants.
