²² But David said, “What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should today become an adversary to me? Shall anyone be put to death in Israel this day? For do I not know that I am this day king over Israel?”^(A)

¹⁰ But the king said, “What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? If he is cursing because the Lord has said to him, ‘Curse David,’ who then shall say, ‘Why have you done so?’ ”^(A)

¹³ But Saul said, “No one shall be put to death this day, for today the Lord has brought deliverance to Israel.”^(A)

³⁹ Today I am powerless, even though anointed king; these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too violent for me. The Lord pay back the one who does wickedly in accordance with his wickedness!”^(A)

⁵⁴ When his disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?”^{[a](A) 55} But he turned and rebuked them. ⁵⁶ Then^[b] they went on to another village.

²⁹ Suddenly they shouted, “What have you to do with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?”^(A)

⁸ Abishai said to David, “God has given your enemy into your hand today; now, therefore, let me pin him to the ground with one stroke of the spear; I will not strike him twice.”
