²² “Who asked your opinion, you sons of Zeruiah!” David exclaimed. “Why have you become my adversary^[a] today? This is not a day for execution, for today I am once again the king of Israel!”

¹⁰ “No!” the king said. “Who asked your opinion, you sons of Zeruiah! If the Lord has told him to curse me, who are you to stop him?”

¹³ But Saul replied, “No one will be executed today, for today the Lord has rescued Israel!”

³⁹ And even though I am the anointed king, these two sons of Zeruiah—Joab and Abishai—are too strong for me to control. So may the Lord repay these evil men for their evil deeds.”

⁵⁴ When James and John saw this, they said to Jesus, “Lord, should we call down fire from heaven to burn them up^[a]?” ⁵⁵ But Jesus turned and rebuked them.^{[b] 56} So they went on to another village.

²⁹ They began screaming at him, “Why are you interfering with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture us before God’s appointed time?”

⁸ “God has surely handed your enemy over to you this time!” Abishai whispered to David. “Let me pin him to the ground with one thrust of the spear; I won’t need to strike twice!”
