²² And David said, ^(A)“What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should be adversaries to me today? ^(B)Shall any man be put to death today in Israel? For do I not know that today I am king over Israel?”

¹⁰ But the king said, ^(A)“What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? So let him curse, because ^(B)the Lord has said to him, ‘Curse David.’ ^(C)Who then shall say, ‘Why have you done so?’ ”

¹³ But Saul said, ^(A)“Not a man shall be put to death this day, for today ^(B)the Lord has accomplished salvation in Israel.”

³⁹ And I am weak today, though anointed king; and these men, the sons of Zeruiah, ^(A)are too harsh for me. ^(B)The Lord shall repay the evildoer according to his wickedness.”

⁵⁴ And when His disciples ^(A)James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, ^[a]just as ^(B)Elijah did?”

⁵⁵ But He turned and rebuked them, ^[b]and said, “You do not know what manner of ^(C)spirit you are of. ^56 [c]For ^(D)the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.” And they went to another village.

²⁹ And suddenly they cried out, saying, “What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?”

⁸ Then Abishai said to David, ^(A)“God has delivered your enemy into your hand this day. Now therefore, please, let me strike him ^[a]at once with the spear, right to the earth; and I will not have to strike him a second time!”
