²² David replied, “What does this have to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah?^(A) What right do you have to interfere? Should anyone be put to death in Israel today?^(B) Don’t I know that today I am king over Israel?”

¹³ But Saul said, “No one will be put to death today,^(A) for this day the Lord has rescued^(B) Israel.”

¹⁰ But the king said, “What does this have to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah?^(A) If he is cursing because the Lord said to him, ‘Curse David,’ who can ask, ‘Why do you do this?’”^(B)

³⁹ And today, though I am the anointed king, I am weak, and these sons of Zeruiah^(A) are too strong^(B) for me.^(C) May the Lord repay^(D) the evildoer according to his evil deeds!”

⁵⁴ When the disciples James and John^(A) saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them^[a]?”^{(B) 55} But Jesus turned and rebuked them. ⁵⁶ Then he and his disciples went to another village.

²⁹ “What do you want with us,^(A) Son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?”^(B)

⁸ Abishai said to David, “Today God has delivered your enemy into your hands. Now let me pin him to the ground with one thrust of the spear; I won’t strike him twice.”
