²¹ But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, “Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, ^(A)because he ^(B)cursed the Lord’s anointed?”

^28 (A)“You shall not revile God, nor curse a ^(B)ruler of your people.

⁹ But David said to Abishai, “Do not destroy him; ^(A)for who can stretch out his hand against the Lord’s anointed, and be guiltless?”

¹¹ So the men of his city, the elders and nobles who were inhabitants of his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them.

¹³ And as David and his men went along the road, Shimei went along the hillside opposite him and cursed as he went, threw stones at him and ^[a]kicked up dust.

⁷ Also Shimei said thus when he cursed: “Come out! Come out! You ^[a]bloodthirsty man, ^(A)you ^[b]rogue! ⁸ The Lord has ^(B)brought upon you all ^(C)the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned; and the Lord has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son. So now you are caught in your own evil, because you are a ^[c]bloodthirsty man!”

Shimei Curses David

⁵ Now when King David came to ^(A)Bahurim, there was a man from the family of the house of Saul, whose name was ^(B)Shimei the son of Gera, coming from there. He came out, cursing continuously as he came.

⁶ And he said to his men, ^(A)“The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord.”
