¹² It may be that the Lord will look on my distress,^[a] and the Lord will repay me with good for this cursing of me today.”^(A)

¹⁰ For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share his holiness.^(A)

⁵ (Yet the Lord your God refused to heed Balaam; the Lord your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your God loved you.)

²⁸ We know that all things work together^[a] for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.^(A)

²⁴ God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.^{(A) 25} God looked upon the Israelites, and God took notice of them.^(B)

¹¹ “Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely^[a] on my account.^{(A) 12} Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.^(B)

⁷ and to give relief to the afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels^(A)

¹¹ She made this vow: “O Lord of hosts, if only you will look on the misery of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant but will give to your servant a male child, then I will set him before you as a nazirite until the day of his death. He shall drink neither wine nor intoxicants,^[a] and no razor shall touch his head.”^(A)

³² Leah conceived and bore a son, and she named him Reuben,^[a] for she said, “Because the Lord has looked on my affliction, surely now my husband will love me.”^{(A) 33} She conceived again and bore a son and said, “Because the Lord has heard that I am hated, he has given me this son also,” and she named him Simeon.^[b]
