⁷ And now the whole family has risen up against your maidservant, and they said, ‘Deliver him who struck his brother, that we may execute him ^(A)for the life of his brother whom he killed; and we will destroy the heir also.’ So they would extinguish my ember that is left, and leave to my husband neither name nor remnant on the earth.”

^19 (A)The^[a] avenger of blood himself shall put the murderer to death; when he meets him, he shall put him to death.

³⁸ But when the vinedressers saw the son, they said among themselves, ^(A)‘This is the heir. ^(B)Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.’

¹⁷ So the elders of his house arose and went to him, to raise him up from the ground. But he would not, nor did he eat food with them.

⁶ And it shall be that the firstborn son which she bears ^(A)will succeed to the name of his dead brother, that ^(B)his name may not be blotted out of Israel.

¹² then the elders of his city shall send and bring him from there, and deliver him over to the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die. ^13 (A)Your eye shall not pity him, ^(B)but you shall ^[a]put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with you.

⁴⁵ until your brother’s anger turns away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him; then I will send and bring you from there. Why should I be bereaved also of you both in one day?”

¹⁴ Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; ^(A)I shall be ^(B)hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen that ^(C)anyone who finds me will kill me.”
