Absalom Returns to Jerusalem

14 Now Joab son of Zeruiah perceived that the king’s mind was on Absalom.^(A)

³⁹ And the heart of^[a] the king went out, yearning for Absalom, for he was now consoled over the death of Amnon.^(A)

¹⁸ The three sons of Zeruiah were there, Joab, Abishai, and Asahel. Now Asahel was as swift of foot as a wild gazelle.^(A)

¹⁶ and their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. The sons of Zeruiah: Abishai, Joab, and Asahel, three.^(A)

⁴ The king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, “O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!”^(A)

² So the victory that day was turned into mourning for all the troops, for the troops heard that day, “The king is grieving for his son.”
