³ But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of ^(A)Shimeah, David's brother. And Jonadab was a very crafty man.

⁹ Then Jesse made ^(A)Shammah pass by. And he said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.”

¹⁵ This is not ^(A)the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, ^(B)demonic.

¹⁹ For ^(A)the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, ^(B)“He catches the wise in their craftiness,”

¹³ And Haman told ^(A)his wife Zeresh and all his friends everything that had happened to him. Then his wise men and his wife Zeresh said to him, “If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of the Jewish people, you will not overcome him but will surely fall before him.”

¹⁴ Then ^(A)his wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him, ^(B)“Let a gallows^[a] fifty cubits^[b] high be made, and in the morning tell the king to have Mordecai hanged upon it. Then go joyfully with the king to the feast.” This idea pleased Haman, and he had the gallows made.

¹⁰ Nevertheless, Haman restrained himself and went home, and he sent and brought his friends and ^(A)his wife Zeresh.

¹⁹ The king said, “Is the hand of Joab with you in all this?” The woman answered and said, ^(A)“As surely as you live, my lord the king, one cannot turn to the right hand or to the left from anything that my lord the king has said. It was your servant Joab who commanded me; ^(B)it was he who put all these words in the mouth of your servant. ²⁰ In order to change the course of things your servant Joab did this. But my lord has wisdom like the wisdom of ^(C)the angel of God to know all things that are on the earth.”
