Solomon's Birth

²⁴ Then David comforted his wife, Bathsheba, and went in to her and lay with her, and ^(A)she bore a son, and he called his name ^(B)Solomon. And the Lord loved him

⁶ and ^(A)Jesse the father of David the king.

And ^(B)David was the father of Solomon by ^(C)the wife of Uriah,

⁵ And of ^(A)all my sons (for the Lord has given me many sons) he ^(B)has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel. ⁶ He said to me, ‘It is ^(C)Solomon your son who shall build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.

Offerings for the Temple

29 And David the king said to all the assembly, “Solomon my son, whom alone God has chosen, is ^(A)young and inexperienced, and the work is great, for ^(B)the palace will not be for man but for the Lord God.

⁹ Behold, a son shall be born to you who shall be a man of rest. ^(A)I will give him rest from all his surrounding enemies. ^(B)For his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel in his days. ^10 (C)He shall build a house for my name. ^(D)He shall be my son, and I will be his father, and I will establish his royal throne in Israel forever.’

^5 (A)These were born to him in Jerusalem: ^(B)Shimea, Shobab, Nathan and ^(C)Solomon, four by ^(D)Bath-shua, the daughter of ^(E)Ammiel;

^12 (A)When your days are fulfilled and ^(B)you lie down with your fathers, ^(C)I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body,^[a] and I will establish his kingdom.
