¹⁷ The elders of his house stood beside him urging him to rise from the ground, but he would not, nor did he eat food with them.

³⁵ Then all the people came to persuade David to eat something while it was still day, but David swore, saying, “So may God do to me and more, if I taste bread or anything else before the sun goes down!”^(A)

²³ He refused and said, “I will not eat.” But his servants, together with the woman, urged him, and he listened to their words. So he got up from the ground and sat on the bed.^(A)
