¹¹ Uriah said to David, ^(A)“The ark and Israel and Judah dwell in booths, and my lord Joab and ^(B)the servants of my lord are camping in the open field. Shall I then go to my house, to eat and to drink and to lie with my wife? As you live, and ^(C)as your soul lives, I will not do this thing.”

² the king said to ^(A)Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell ^(B)in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells ^(C)in a tent.”

⁶ And David said to Abishai, “Now Sheba the son of Bichri will do us more harm than Absalom. Take ^(A)your lord's servants and pursue him, lest he get himself to fortified cities and escape from us.”^[a]

⁶ I have not lived in a house ^(A)since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about ^(B)in a tent for my dwelling.

²⁶ And she said, “Oh, my lord! ^(A)As you live, my lord, I am the woman who was standing here in your presence, praying to the Lord.

Jesus, Founder and Perfecter of Our Faith

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and ^(A)sin which clings so closely, and ^(B)let us run ^(C)with endurance the race that is ^(D)set before us, ² looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, ^(E)who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising ^(F)the shame, and ^(G)is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

^3 (A)Share in suffering as ^(B)a good soldier of Christ Jesus. ⁴ No soldier ^(C)gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him.

²⁵ Every ^(A)athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we ^(B)an imperishable. ²⁶ So I do not run aimlessly; I ^(C)do not box as one ^(D)beating the air. ²⁷ But I discipline my body and ^(E)keep it under control,^[a] lest after preaching to others ^(F)I myself should be ^(G)disqualified.
