22 Josias avait huit ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna trente et un ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelait Jedida, fille d'Adaja, de Botskath.
2 Il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Éternel, et il marcha dans toute la voie de David, son père; il ne s'en détourna ni à droite ni à gauche.
3 La dix-huitième année du roi Josias, le roi envoya dans la maison de l'Éternel Schaphan, le secrétaire, fils d'Atsalia, fils de Meschullam.
4 Il lui dit: Monte vers Hilkija, le souverain sacrificateur, et qu'il amasse l'argent qui a été apporté dans la maison de l'Éternel et que ceux qui ont la garde du seuil ont recueilli du peuple.
5 On remettra cet argent entre les mains de ceux qui sont chargés de faire exécuter l'ouvrage dans la maison de l'Éternel. Et ils l'emploieront pour ceux qui travaillent aux réparations de la maison de l'Éternel,
6 pour les charpentiers, les manoeuvres et les maçons, pour les achats de bois et de pierres de taille nécessaires aux réparations de la maison.
7 Mais on ne leur demandera pas de compte pour l'argent remis entre leurs mains, car ils agissent avec probité.
8 Alors Hilkija, le souverain sacrificateur, dit à Schaphan, le secrétaire: J'ai trouvé le livre de la loi dans la maison de l'Éternel. Et Hilkija donna le livre à Schaphan, et Schaphan le lut.
9 Puis Schaphan, le secrétaire, alla rendre compte au roi, et dit: Tes serviteurs ont amassé l'argent qui se trouvait dans la maison, et l'ont remis entre les mains de ceux qui sont chargés de faire exécuter l'ouvrage dans la maison de l'Éternel.
10 Schaphan, le secrétaire, dit encore au roi: Le sacrificateur Hilkija m'a donné un livre. Et Schaphan le lut devant le roi.
11 Lorsque le roi entendit les paroles du livre de la loi, il déchira ses vêtements.
12 Et le roi donna cet ordre au sacrificateur Hilkija, à Achikam, fils de Schaphan, à Acbor, fils de Michée, à Schaphan, le secrétaire, et à Asaja, serviteur du roi:
13 Allez, consultez l'Éternel pour moi, pour le peuple, et pour tout Juda, au sujet des paroles de ce livre qu'on a trouvé; car grande est la colère de l'Éternel, qui s'est enflammée contre nous, parce que nos pères n'ont point obéi aux paroles de ce livre et n'ont point mis en pratique tout ce qui nous y est prescrit.
14 Le sacrificateur Hilkija, Achikam, Acbor, Schaphan et Asaja, allèrent auprès de la prophétesse Hulda, femme de Schallum, fils de Thikva, fils de Harhas, gardien des vêtements. Elle habitait à Jérusalem, dans l'autre quartier de la ville.
15 Après qu'ils eurent parlé, elle leur dit: Ainsi parle l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël: Dites à l'homme qui vous a envoyés vers moi:
16 Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Voici, je vais faire venir des malheurs sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants, selon toutes les paroles du livre qu'a lu le roi de Juda.
17 Parce qu'ils m'ont abandonné et qu'ils ont offert des parfums à d'autres dieux, afin de m'irriter par tous les ouvrages de leurs mains, ma colère s'est enflammée contre ce lieu, et elle ne s'éteindra point.
18 Mais vous direz au roi de Juda, qui vous a envoyés pour consulter l'Éternel: Ainsi parle l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël, au sujet des paroles que tu as entendues:
19 Parce que ton coeur a été touché, parce que tu t'es humilié devant l'Éternel en entendant ce que j'ai prononcé contre ce lieu et contre ses habitants, qui seront un objet d'épouvante et de malédiction, et parce que tu as déchiré tes vêtements et que tu as pleuré devant moi, moi aussi, j'ai entendu, dit l'Éternel.
20 C'est pourquoi, voici, je te recueillerai auprès de tes pères, tu seras recueilli en paix dans ton sépulcre, et tes yeux ne verront pas tous les malheurs que je ferai venir sur ce lieu. Ils rapportèrent au roi cette réponse.

22 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath. 2 He did that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes, and walked in all the ways of David his father, and didn’t turn away to the right hand or to the left.
3 In the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to Yahweh’s house, saying, 4 “Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money which is brought into Yahweh’s house, which the keepers of the threshold have gathered of the people. 5 Let them deliver it into the hand of the workers who have the oversight of Yahweh’s house; and let them give it to the workers who are in Yahweh’s house, to repair the damage to the house, 6 to the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the house. 7 However, no accounting shall be asked of them for the money delivered into their hand, for they deal faithfully.”
8 Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in Yahweh’s house.” Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan, and he read it. 9 Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hands of the workmen who have the oversight of Yahweh’s house.” 10 Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered a book to me.” Then Shaphan read it before the king.
11 When the king had heard the words of the book of the law, he tore his clothes. 12 The king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Achbor the son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying, 13 “Go inquire of Yahweh for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found; for great is Yahweh’s wrath that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book, to do according to all that which is written concerning us.”
14 So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter); and they talked with her. 15 She said to them, “Yahweh the God of Israel says, ‘Tell the man who sent you to me, 16 “Yahweh says, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read. 17 Because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched.’” 18 But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Yahweh, tell him, “Yahweh the God of Israel says, ‘Concerning the words which you have heard, 19 because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before Yahweh when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you,’ says Yahweh. 20 ‘Therefore behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the evil which I will bring on this place.’”’” So they brought this message back to the king.

22 Si Josia ay walong taong gulang nang maging hari ng Juda. Sa Jerusalem siya tumira, at naghari siya roon sa loob ng 31 taon. Ang ina niya ay si Jedida na taga-Bozkat at anak ni Adaya. 2 Matuwid ang ginawa niya sa paningin ng Panginoon at sumunod siya sa pamumuhay ng ninuno niyang si David. At lubos siyang sumunod sa mga utos ng Dios.

3 Nang ika-18 taon ng paghahari ni Josia, pinapunta niya sa templo ng Panginoon ang kanyang kalihim na si Shafan, na anak ni Azalia at apo ni Meshulam at sinabi, 4 “Pumunta ka sa punong pari na si Hilkia at ipaipon mo sa kanya ang perang dinala ng mga tao sa templo ng Panginoon, na kinolekta ng mga paring nagbabantay sa pintuan ng templo. 5 Sabihin mo na ibigay niya ito sa mga taong pinagkakatiwalaang mamahala sa pagpapaayos ng templo, para ibayad sa mga manggagawa sa templo ng Panginoon – 6 ang mga karpintero at mga kantero. Ang ibang pera ay ibibili nila ng mga kahoy at mga hinating bato na kailangan sa pagpapaayos ng templo. 7 Hindi na sila kailangan pang hanapan ng listahan kung paano ginastos ang pera dahil mapagkakatiwalaan sila.”
8 Sinabi ni Hilkia na punong pari kay Shafan na kalihim, “Nakita ko ang Aklat ng Kautusan sa templo ng Panginoon.” Ibinigay ni Hilkia ang aklat kay Shafan at binasa niya ito. 9 Pagkatapos, pumunta si Shafan sa hari at sinabi, “Kinuha na po ng mga opisyal ninyo ang pera sa templo at ibinigay sa mga katiwala na itinalaga sa pagpapaayos ng templo.” 10 Sinabi pa niya sa hari, “May ibinigay na aklat sa akin ang paring si Hilkia.” At binasa niya ito sa harapan ng hari.
11 Nang marinig ng hari ang nakasulat sa Aklat ng Kautusan, pinunit niya ang kanyang damit bilang pagpapakita ng kalungkutan niya. 12 Inutusan niya sina Hilkia na pari, Ahikam na anak ni Shafan, Acbor na anak ni Micaya, Shafan na kalihim at Asaya na personal niyang lingkod. Sinabi niya, 13 “Magtanong kayo sa Panginoon para sa akin at para sa mga mamamayan ng Juda tungkol sa nakasulat sa aklat na ito. Galit na galit ang Panginoon sa atin dahil hindi sumunod ang mga ninuno natin sa nakasulat dito. Hindi natin ginagawa ang mga ipinatutupad ng aklat na ito.”
14 Kaya pumunta ang paring si Hilkia, Ahikam, Acbor, Shafan at Asaya sa babaeng propeta na si Hulda para makipag-usap. Nakatira si Hulda sa ikalawang distrito ng Jerusalem. Asawa siya ni Shalum na anak ni Tikva at apo ni Harhas. Si Shalum ang namamahala ng mga damit sa templo.
15-16 Sinabi ni Hulda sa kanila, “Sabihin ninyo sa taong nagpadala sa inyo sa akin na ito ang sinasabi ng Panginoon, ang Dios ng Israel: ‘Lilipulin ko ang lugar na ito at ang mga naninirahan dito, ayon sa nasusulat sa aklat na binasa mo. 17 Ipapakita ko ang galit ko sa lugar na ito at hindi ito titigil, dahil itinakwil ako ng aking mga mamamayan at sumamba sila[a] sa ibang mga dios. Ginalit nila ako sa mga ginawa nila.’[b]
18 “Sabihin ninyo sa hari ng Juda na nagpadala sa inyo para magtanong sa Panginoon, na hindi siya dapat mabahala sa mensaheng ito, dahil ito ang sinasabi ng Panginoon, ang Dios ng Israel: 19 Pinakinggan ko ang panalangin mo dahil nagsisi ka at nagpakumbaba sa harapan ko nang marinig mo ang sinabi ko na susumpain at lilipulin ko ang lugar na ito at ang mga naninirahan dito. Pinunit mo pa ang iyong damit at umiyak sa harapan ko dahil sa pagsisisi. Kaya ako, ang Panginoon, ay nagsasabi na 20 habang buhay ka pa, hindi darating ang kapahamakan na ipapadala ko sa lugar na ito. Mamamatay ka nang may kapayapaan.”
At sinabi nila sa hari ang isinagot ni Hulda.
