Se consagra a Jehú como rey de Israel
9 El profeta Eliseo llamó a uno de los discípulos de los profetas y le dijo:
—Prepárate, toma este frasco en tu mano y ve a Ramot de Galaad. 2 Al llegar ahí, busca a Jehú, el hijo de Josafat y nieto de Nimsi. Apártalo de sus hermanos y llévalo a un cuarto. 3 Toma el frasco de aceite, derrámaselo sobre la cabeza y dile: “Así dice el SEÑOR: Te consagro como el nuevo rey de Israel”. Luego corre rápido y escapa. No te detengas para nada.
4 Entonces este joven profeta fue a Ramot de Galaad. 5 Cuando llegó el joven, vio que todos los capitanes del ejército estaban sentados y dijo:
—Capitán, tengo un mensaje para usted.
Jehú le preguntó:
—¿Para cuál de nosotros es el mensaje?
El joven le dijo:
—Para usted, señor.
6 Jehú se levantó y entró a la casa. Entonces el joven profeta derramó el aceite la cabeza de Jehú y le dijo: «El SEÑOR Dios de Israel dice: “Te consagro como el nuevo rey de Israel, el pueblo del SEÑOR. 7 Tienes que destruir a la familia de tu rey Acab y así castigaré a Jezabel por la muerte de mis siervos los profetas y la de todos los siervos del SEÑOR que fueron asesinados. 8 Así toda la familia de Acab morirá. No quedará en Israel ningún hijo de la familia de Acab, sea esclavo o libre. 9 La familia de Acab terminará como la familia de Jeroboán hijo de Nabat y como la familia de Basá hijo de Ahías. 10 Los perros se comerán a Jezabel en el área de Jezrel, y nadie le dará sepultura”».
Y el joven profeta abrió la puerta y salió corriendo.
Los siervos proclaman rey a Jehú
11 Jehú regresó a los oficiales del rey. Uno de ellos le preguntó a Jehú:
—¿Está todo bien? ¿A qué se te acercó ese loco?
Jehú contestó a los oficiales:
—Ya lo conocen a él y las locuras que dice.
12 Los oficiales dijeron:
—¡No! Dinos la verdad. ¿Qué te dijo?
Jehú les contó a los oficiales lo que el joven profeta le había dicho. Jehú dijo:
—Me dijo esto y esto, y: “El SEÑOR dice: Te he consagrado como el nuevo rey de Israel”.
13 Entonces cada oficial se quitó el manto y lo puso en las gradas ante Jehú. Tocaron la trompeta y proclamaron: «¡Viva el rey Jehú!»
14 Así que Jehú, hijo de Josafat y nieto de Nimsi, conspiró contra Jorán.
En aquel tiempo Jorán y los israelitas estaban defendiendo a Ramot de Galaad contra el ataque de Jazael, rey de Siria. 15 El rey Jorán había luchado contra Jazael, rey de Siria. Pero los sirios lo habían herido, y el rey se había ido a Jezrel para curarse las heridas. Entonces Jehú les dijo a los oficiales:
—Si están de acuerdo con que yo sea el nuevo rey, entonces no permitan que nadie se escape de la ciudad para contar las noticias en Jezrel.
16 Jorán estaba descansando en Jezrel, así que Jehú subió a su carro y se fue hasta Jezrel. Ocozías, rey de Judá, también había ido a Jezrel para ver a Jorán. 17 Un guarda estaba parado en la torre de Jezrel. Cuando vio acercarse al grupo de Jehú, avisó:
—¡Viene mucha gente!
Entonces Jorán dijo:
—Manden a su encuentro un mensajero a caballo para averiguar si vienen en son de paz.
18 Así que el mensajero fue al encuentro de Jehú y le dijo:
—El rey Jorán te pregunta: “¿Vienes en son de paz?”
Jehú le dijo:
—A ti no te concierne si vengo en son de paz. Ven y sígueme.
El guarda le avisó a Jorán:
—El mensajero salió al encuentro del grupo, pero no regresó.
19 Entonces Jorán mandó un segundo mensajero a caballo. Se acercó al grupo de Jehú y les dijo:
—El rey Jorán dice: “Paz”.[a]
Jehú contestó:
—A ti no te concierne si vengo en son de paz. Ven y sígueme.
20 El guarda avisó a Jorán:
—El segundo mensajero no ha vuelto. Hay un hombre manejando un carro como loco, a la manera de Jehú hijo de Nimsi.
21 Jorán dijo:
—¡Tráiganme el carro!
Así que los siervos trajeron el carro de Jorán. Tanto Jorán, rey de Israel, como Ocozías, rey de Judá, subieron a sus carros y salieron al encuentro de Jehú. Se encontraron con Jehú en la propiedad de Nabot de Jezrel.
22 Jorán vio a Jehú y le preguntó:
—¿Vienes en son de paz, Jehú?
Jehú contestó:
—No hay paz mientras tu mamá Jezabel siga cometiendo prostitución y brujería.
23 Jorán se dio media vuelta para escapar y le dijo a Ocozías:
—¡Traición, Ocozías!
24 Pero Jehú agarró su arco y le disparó a Jorán en la espalda, penetrando su corazón. Jorán cayó muerto en su carro. 25 Jehú le dijo a Bidcar, el oficial ayudante que manejaba su carro:
—Lleva el cuerpo de Jorán y tíralo al viñedo de Nabot de Jezrel. Recuerda que cuando tú y yo cabalgábamos con su papá Acab, el SEÑOR dijo que eso iba a ocurrir. 26 El SEÑOR dijo: “Ayer vi la sangre de Nabot y sus hijos, y así castigaré a Acab en este campo, dijo el SEÑOR”. Así que lleva el cuerpo de Jorán y tíralo en el campo, tal como dijo el SEÑOR.
27 Cuando Ocozías, rey de Judá, vio todo esto, intentó escapar por la casa del jardín, pero Jehú lo persiguió, diciendo:
—¡Mátenlo también a él!
Hirieron a Ocozías mientras este huía en su carro en el camino hacia Gur cerca de Ibleam. Alcanzó a llegar a Meguido, pero allí murió. 28 Los siervos de Ocozías llevaron su cuerpo en el carro hasta Jerusalén y lo sepultaron en la tumba con sus antepasados en la Ciudad de David.
29 Ocozías había comenzado a reinar en Judá en el undécimo año del reinado de Jorán hijo de Acab en Israel.
Muerte de Jezabel
30 Jehú se acercó a Jezrel, y Jezabel se enteró de las noticias. Se maquilló los ojos, arregló su cabello y se asomó por la ventana. 31 Cuando Jehú entró en la ciudad, Jezabel le dijo:
—Hola, Zimri[b]. Al igual que él, mataste a tu amo.
32 Jehú miró hacia la ventana y dijo:
—¿Quién está de mi lado? ¿Quién?
Entonces se asomaron dos o tres eunucos, 33 y Jehú les dijo:
—¡Arrojen a Jezabel!
Entonces los eunucos arrojaron a Jezabel por la ventana. La sangre de Jezabel salpicó las paredes y los caballos pisotearon su cuerpo. 34 Entonces Jehú entró en la casa para comer y beber, y dijo:
—Ahora encárguense de esa maldita mujer y sepúltenla, porque al fin y al cabo era hija de un rey.
35 Cuando los hombres salieron a sepultar a Jezabel, no encontraron su cadáver. Sólo encontraron el cráneo, los pies y las palmas de sus manos. 36 Le comentaron esto a Jehú, quien les dijo:
—El SEÑOR le había dicho a su siervo Elías el tisbita: “Los perros se comerán el cuerpo de Jezabel en Jezrel. 37 Su cuerpo será como un campo donde se guarda estiércol en Jezrel y nadie podrá reconocerlo”.

Jehú ungido rey de Israel
9 Un día, el profeta Eliseo llamó a un miembro de la comunidad de los profetas. «Arréglate la ropa para viajar —le ordenó—. Toma este frasco de aceite y ve a Ramot de Galaad. 2 Cuando llegues, busca a Jehú, hijo de Josafat y nieto de Nimsi. Ve adonde esté, apártalo de sus compañeros y llévalo a un cuarto. 3 Toma entonces el frasco, derrama el aceite sobre su cabeza y declárale: “Así dice el Señor: ‘Ahora te unjo como rey de Israel’ ”. Luego abre la puerta y huye; ¡no te detengas!».
4 Acto seguido, el joven profeta se fue a Ramot de Galaad. 5 Cuando llegó, encontró reunidos a los oficiales del ejército y les dijo:
—Tengo un mensaje para el comandante.
—¿Para cuál de todos nosotros? —preguntó Jehú.
—Para usted, comandante —respondió.
6 Jehú se levantó y entró en la casa. Entonces el profeta lo ungió con el aceite y declaró:
«Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: “Ahora te unjo como rey sobre mi pueblo Israel. 7 Destruirás a la familia de Acab, tu señor, y así me vengaré de la sangre de mis siervos los profetas; castigando a Jezabel, vengaré la sangre de todos mis siervos. 8 Toda la familia de Acab perecerá, pues de sus descendientes en Israel exterminaré hasta el último varón,[a] esclavo o libre. 9 Haré con ellos lo mismo que hice con la familia de Jeroboán, hijo de Nabat, y con la familia de Basá, hijo de Ahías. 10 Y en cuanto a Jezabel, los perros se la comerán en el campo de Jezrel y nadie le dará sepultura”».
Acto seguido, el profeta abrió la puerta y huyó. 11 Cuando Jehú salió para volver a reunirse con los capitanes, uno de ellos preguntó:
—¿Todo bien? ¿Qué quería ese loco?
—Ustedes ya lo conocen —respondió—, y saben cómo habla.
12 —¡Eso no es verdad! —contestaron—. Dinos la verdad.
Jehú dijo:
—Esto es lo que me declaró: “Así dice el Señor: ‘Ahora te unjo como rey de Israel’ ”.
13 Dicho esto, todos se apresuraron a tender sus mantos sobre los escalones, a los pies de Jehú. Luego tocaron la trompeta y gritaron: «¡Viva el rey Jehú!».
Jehú asesina a Jorán y a Ocozías(A)
14 Entonces Jehú, hijo de Josafat y nieto de Nimsi, conspiró contra Jorán. Sucedió que Jorán, con todo el ejército israelita, había estado defendiendo Ramot de Galaad contra Jazael, rey de Aram, 15 pero tuvo que regresar a Jezrel para reponerse de las heridas que había recibido de los arameos en la batalla. Así que Jehú dijo a sus partidarios: «Si ustedes quieren que yo sea rey, no dejen que nadie salga de la ciudad para ir a Jezrel con el informe». 16 Luego se montó en su carro de combate y fue a Jezrel, pues allí se estaba recuperando Jorán, a quien también Ocozías, rey de Judá, había ido a visitar.
17 Cuando el centinela que vigilaba desde la torre de Jezrel vio que las tropas de Jehú se acercaban, gritó:
—¡Se acercan unas tropas!
Enseguida Jorán ordenó:
—Llama a un jinete y mándalo al encuentro de las tropas para preguntarles si vienen en son de paz.
18 El jinete se fue al encuentro de Jehú y le dijo:
—El rey quiere saber si vienen en son de paz.
—¿Y a ti qué te importa? —respondió Jehú—. Ponte allí atrás.
Entonces el centinela anunció:
—El mensajero ya llegó hasta ellos, pero no lo veo regresar.
19 Por tanto, el rey mandó a otro jinete, el cual fue a ellos y repitió:
—El rey quiere saber si vienen en son de paz.
—¿Y a ti qué te importa? —respondió Jehú—. Ponte allí atrás.
20 El centinela informó de nuevo:
—Ya llegó el mensajero hasta ellos, pero a él tampoco lo veo regresar. Además, el que conduce el carro ha de ser Jehú, hijo de Nimsi, pues lo hace como un loco.
21 —¡Enganchen el carro! —exclamó Jorán.
Así lo hicieron. Y enseguida Jorán, rey de Israel, y Ocozías, rey de Judá, cada uno en su carro, salieron y se encontraron con Jehú en la propiedad que había pertenecido a Nabot, el jezrelita. 22 Cuando Jorán vio a Jehú, preguntó:
—Jehú, ¿vienes en son de paz?
—¿Cómo puede haber paz mientras haya tantas idolatrías[b] y hechicerías de tu madre Jezabel? —respondió Jehú.
23 Jorán se dio la vuelta para huir, mientras gritaba:
—¡Traición, Ocozías!
24 Pero Jehú, que ya había tensado su arco, disparó a Jorán por la espalda y la flecha le atravesó el corazón. Jorán se desplomó en el carro 25 y Jehú ordenó a su ayudante Bidcar:
—Saca el cadáver y tíralo en el terreno que fue propiedad de Nabot, el jezrelita. Recuerda el día en que tú y yo conducíamos juntos detrás de Acab, padre de Jorán, y el Señor pronunció contra él esta sentencia: 26 “Ayer vi aquí la sangre de Nabot y de sus hijos. Por lo tanto, juro que en este mismo terreno te haré pagar por ese crimen. Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo”.[c] Saca, pues, el cadáver y tíralo en el terreno, según la palabra que dio a conocer el Señor.
27 Cuando Ocozías, rey de Judá, vio lo que pasaba, huyó en dirección a Bet Hagán.[d] Pero Jehú lo persiguió y ordenó:
—¡Mátenlo a él también!
Y lo hirieron[e] en su carro cuando iba por la cuesta de Gur, cerca de Ibleam, pero logró escapar y llegar a Meguido. Allí murió. 28 Luego sus siervos trasladaron el cuerpo a Jerusalén, la Ciudad de David, donde lo sepultaron en su tumba, junto a sus antepasados. 29 Ocozías había ascendido al trono en el undécimo año del reinado de Jorán, hijo de Acab.
Muerte de Jezabel
30 Cuando Jezabel se enteró de que Jehú estaba regresando a Jezrel, se sombreó los ojos, se arregló el cabello y se asomó a la ventana. 31 Al entrar Jehú por la puerta de la ciudad, ella preguntó:
—¿Cómo estás, Zimri, asesino de tu señor?[f]
32 Levantando la vista hacia la ventana, Jehú gritó:
—¿Quién está de mi parte? ¿Quién?
Entonces se asomaron dos o tres oficiales[g] 33 y Jehú les ordenó:
—¡Arrójenla de allí!
Así lo hicieron y su sangre salpicó la pared y a los caballos que la pisotearon. 34 Luego Jehú se sentó a comer y beber y dio esta orden:
—Ocúpense de esa maldita mujer; denle sepultura, pues era hija de un rey.
35 Pero cuando fueron a enterrarla, no encontraron más que el cráneo, los pies y las manos. 36 Así que volvieron para informarle a Jehú y este comentó:
—Se ha cumplido la palabra que el Señor dio a conocer por medio de su siervo Elías el tisbita, que dijo: “En el campo de Jezrel los perros se comerán a Jezabel”.[h] 37 De hecho, el cadáver de Jezabel será como estiércol en el campo de Jezrel y nadie podrá identificarla ni decir: “Esta era Jezabel”.

9 And Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird up thy loins, and take this box of oil in thine hand, and go to Ramothgilead:
2 And when thou comest thither, look out there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brethren, and carry him to an inner chamber;
3 Then take the box of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, Thus saith the Lord, I have anointed thee king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and tarry not.
4 So the young man, even the young man the prophet, went to Ramothgilead.
5 And when he came, behold, the captains of the host were sitting; and he said, I have an errand to thee, O captain. And Jehu said, Unto which of all us? And he said, To thee, O captain.
6 And he arose, and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I have anointed thee king over the people of the Lord, even over Israel.
7 And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the Lord, at the hand of Jezebel.
8 For the whole house of Ahab shall perish: and I will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel:

10 And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her. And he opened the door, and fled.

12 And they said, It is false; tell us now. And he said, Thus and thus spake he to me, saying, Thus saith the Lord, I have anointed thee king over Israel.
13 Then they hasted, and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew with trumpets, saying, Jehu is king.
14 So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. (Now Joram had kept Ramothgilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Syria.
15 But king Joram was returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria.) And Jehu said, If it be your minds, then let none go forth nor escape out of the city to go to tell it in Jezreel.
16 So Jehu rode in a chariot, and went to Jezreel; for Joram lay there. And Ahaziah king of Judah was come down to see Joram.
17 And there stood a watchman on the tower in Jezreel, and he spied the company of Jehu as he came, and said, I see a company. And Joram said, Take an horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, Is it peace?
18 So there went one on horseback to meet him, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu said, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me. And the watchman told, saying, The messenger came to them, but he cometh not again.
19 Then he sent out a second on horseback, which came to them, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu answered, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me.
20 And the watchman told, saying, He came even unto them, and cometh not again: and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he driveth furiously.
21 And Joram said, Make ready. And his chariot was made ready. And Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out against Jehu, and met him in the portion of Naboth the Jezreelite.
22 And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?
23 And Joram turned his hands, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, There is treachery, O Ahaziah.
24 And Jehu drew a bow with his full strength, and smote Jehoram between his arms, and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot.
25 Then said Jehu to Bidkar his captain, Take up, and cast him in the portion of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite: for remember how that, when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, the Lord laid this burden upon him;
26 Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, saith the Lord; and I will requite thee in this plat, saith the Lord. Now therefore take and cast him into the plat of ground, according to the word of the Lord.
27 But when Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house. And Jehu followed after him, and said, Smite him also in the chariot. And they did so at the going up to Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo, and died there.
28 And his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers in the city of David.
29 And in the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab began Ahaziah to reign over Judah.
30 And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a window.
31 And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Had Zimri peace, who slew his master?
32 And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs.
33 And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down: and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trode her under foot.
34 And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go, see now this cursed woman, and bury her: for she is a king's daughter.
35 And they went to bury her: but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands.
36 Wherefore they came again, and told him. And he said, This is the word of the Lord, which he spake by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel:
37 And the carcase of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel; so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel.

Jehu Anointed King of Israel
9 The prophet Elisha summoned a man from the company(A) of the prophets and said to him, “Tuck your cloak into your belt,(B) take this flask of olive oil(C) with you and go to Ramoth Gilead.(D) 2 When you get there, look for Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi. Go to him, get him away from his companions and take him into an inner room. 3 Then take the flask and pour the oil(E) on his head and declare, ‘This is what the Lord says: I anoint you king over Israel.’ Then open the door and run; don’t delay!”
4 So the young prophet went to Ramoth Gilead. 5 When he arrived, he found the army officers sitting together. “I have a message for you, commander,” he said.
“For which of us?” asked Jehu.
“For you, commander,” he replied.
6 Jehu got up and went into the house. Then the prophet poured the oil(F) on Jehu’s head and declared, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anoint you king over the Lord’s people Israel. 7 You are to destroy the house of Ahab your master, and I will avenge(G) the blood of my servants(H) the prophets and the blood of all the Lord’s servants shed by Jezebel.(I) 8 The whole house(J) of Ahab will perish. I will cut off from Ahab every last male(K) in Israel—slave or free.[a] 9 I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam(L) son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha(M) son of Ahijah. 10 As for Jezebel, dogs(N) will devour her on the plot of ground at Jezreel, and no one will bury her.’” Then he opened the door and ran.
11 When Jehu went out to his fellow officers, one of them asked him, “Is everything all right? Why did this maniac(O) come to you?”
“You know the man and the sort of things he says,” Jehu replied.
12 “That’s not true!” they said. “Tell us.”
Jehu said, “Here is what he told me: ‘This is what the Lord says: I anoint you king over Israel.’”
13 They quickly took their cloaks and spread(P) them under him on the bare steps. Then they blew the trumpet(Q) and shouted, “Jehu is king!”
Jehu Kills Joram and Ahaziah(R)
14 So Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi, conspired against Joram. (Now Joram and all Israel had been defending Ramoth Gilead(S) against Hazael king of Aram, 15 but King Joram[b] had returned to Jezreel to recover(T) from the wounds the Arameans had inflicted on him in the battle with Hazael king of Aram.) Jehu said, “If you desire to make me king, don’t let anyone slip out of the city to go and tell the news in Jezreel.” 16 Then he got into his chariot and rode to Jezreel, because Joram was resting there and Ahaziah(U) king of Judah had gone down to see him.
17 When the lookout(V) standing on the tower in Jezreel saw Jehu’s troops approaching, he called out, “I see some troops coming.”
“Get a horseman,” Joram ordered. “Send him to meet them and ask, ‘Do you come in peace?(W)’”
18 The horseman rode off to meet Jehu and said, “This is what the king says: ‘Do you come in peace?’”
“What do you have to do with peace?” Jehu replied. “Fall in behind me.”
The lookout reported, “The messenger has reached them, but he isn’t coming back.”
19 So the king sent out a second horseman. When he came to them he said, “This is what the king says: ‘Do you come in peace?’”
Jehu replied, “What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me.”
20 The lookout reported, “He has reached them, but he isn’t coming back either. The driving is like(X) that of Jehu son of Nimshi—he drives like a maniac.”
21 “Hitch up my chariot,” Joram ordered. And when it was hitched up, Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah rode out, each in his own chariot, to meet Jehu. They met him at the plot of ground that had belonged to Naboth(Y) the Jezreelite. 22 When Joram saw Jehu he asked, “Have you come in peace, Jehu?”
“How can there be peace,” Jehu replied, “as long as all the idolatry and witchcraft of your mother Jezebel(Z) abound?”
23 Joram turned about and fled, calling out to Ahaziah, “Treachery,(AA) Ahaziah!”
24 Then Jehu drew his bow(AB) and shot Joram between the shoulders. The arrow pierced his heart and he slumped down in his chariot. 25 Jehu said to Bidkar, his chariot officer, “Pick him up and throw him on the field that belonged to Naboth the Jezreelite. Remember how you and I were riding together in chariots behind Ahab his father when the Lord spoke this prophecy(AC) against him: 26 ‘Yesterday I saw the blood of Naboth(AD) and the blood of his sons, declares the Lord, and I will surely make you pay for it on this plot of ground, declares the Lord.’[c] Now then, pick him up and throw him on that plot, in accordance with the word of the Lord.”(AE)
27 When Ahaziah king of Judah saw what had happened, he fled up the road to Beth Haggan.[d] Jehu chased him, shouting, “Kill him too!” They wounded him in his chariot on the way up to Gur near Ibleam,(AF) but he escaped to Megiddo(AG) and died there. 28 His servants took him by chariot(AH) to Jerusalem and buried him with his ancestors in his tomb in the City of David. 29 (In the eleventh(AI) year of Joram son of Ahab, Ahaziah had become king of Judah.)
Jezebel Killed
30 Then Jehu went to Jezreel. When Jezebel heard about it, she put on eye makeup,(AJ) arranged her hair and looked out of a window. 31 As Jehu entered the gate, she asked, “Have you come in peace, you Zimri,(AK) you murderer of your master?”[e]
32 He looked up at the window and called out, “Who is on my side? Who?” Two or three eunuchs looked down at him. 33 “Throw her down!” Jehu said. So they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered the wall and the horses as they trampled her underfoot.(AL)
34 Jehu went in and ate and drank. “Take care of that cursed woman,” he said, “and bury her, for she was a king’s daughter.”(AM) 35 But when they went out to bury her, they found nothing except her skull, her feet and her hands. 36 They went back and told Jehu, who said, “This is the word of the Lord that he spoke through his servant Elijah the Tishbite: On the plot of ground at Jezreel dogs(AN) will devour Jezebel’s flesh.[f](AO) 37 Jezebel’s body will be like dung(AP) on the ground in the plot at Jezreel, so that no one will be able to say, ‘This is Jezebel.’”
