Curación del sirio Naamán
5 Naamán, general del ejército del rey de Siria, era un hombre muy apreciado y distinguido por su rey, pues el Señor había dado la victoria a Siria valiéndose de él. Este hombre, que era un valiente guerrero, tenía lepra. 2 En una de sus incursiones por Israel, una banda de sirios había tomado cautiva a una muchacha que luego había pasado al servicio de la mujer de Naamán. 3 La muchacha dijo a su señora:
— Si mi señor fuese a ver al profeta que hay en Samaría, él lo curaría de la lepra.
4 Naamán fue a informar a su rey:
— La muchacha israelita me ha dicho esto.
5 El rey de Siria le dijo:
— Anda y vete, que yo enviaré una carta al rey de Israel.
Naamán partió, llevando consigo diez talentos de plata, seis mil siclos de oro y diez vestidos, 6 y entregó al rey de Israel la carta, que decía así: “Con esta carta, te envío a mi general Naamán, para que lo cures de su lepra”.
7 Cuando el rey de Israel leyó la carta, se rasgó las vestiduras y dijo:
— ¿Acaso soy yo Dios, dueño de la muerte y la vida, para que este me encargue curar a un hombre de su lepra? Analícenlo y comprobarán que lo que él quiere es provocarme.
8 El profeta Eliseo se enteró de que el rey se había rasgado las vestiduras y mandó a decirle:
— ¿Por qué te has rasgado las vestiduras? Que venga a mí y sabrá que hay un profeta en Israel.
9 Naamán llegó con sus caballos y su carro y se detuvo a la puerta de la casa de Eliseo 10 que le mandó un mensajero a decirle:
— Ve a bañarte siete veces en el Jordán y tu carne quedará sana y purificada.
11 Naamán se marchó indignado y murmurando:
— Yo pensaba que saldría a recibirme y que, puesto en pie, invocaría al Señor, su Dios; que me tocaría con su mano y me libraría de la lepra. 12 ¿Acaso no valen más los ríos de Damasco, el Abaná y el Farfar, que todas las aguas de Israel? ¿Y no podría haberme bañado en ellos para quedar limpio?
Naamán dio media vuelta y se marchó enfurecido. 13 Pero sus servidores se acercaron y le dijeron:
— Padre, si el profeta te hubiera mandado algo extraordinario, ¿no lo habrías hecho? Pues con más razón cuando sólo te ha dicho que te bañes para quedar limpio.
14 Entonces Naamán bajó al Jordán, se bañó siete veces, como le había mandado el profeta, y su carne quedó limpia como la de un niño. 15 Luego volvió con toda su comitiva a ver al profeta. Al llegar, se presentó ante él y le dijo:
— Ahora reconozco que en toda la tierra no hay más Dios que el de Israel. Te ruego, pues, que aceptes un regalo de tu servidor.
16 Pero Eliseo respondió:
— Te juro por el Señor a quien sirvo que no aceptaré nada.
Y por más que le insistió, no quiso aceptar.
17 Entonces Naamán dijo:
— Permite, al menos, que me lleve en un par de mulas dos cargas de tierra de Israel, pues no volveré a ofrecer holocaustos ni sacrificios a más dioses que al Señor. 18 Sólo pido perdón al Señor por una cosa: cuando mi soberano vaya a orar al templo de Rimón, apoyándose en mi brazo y yo tenga que arrodillarme con él en el templo de Rimón, que el Señor me perdone por esa acción.
19 Eliseo le dijo:
— Vete tranquilo.
Naamán se marchó y apenas hubo recorrido un corto trayecto, 20 Guejazí, el criado del profeta Eliseo, pensó: “Mi amo ha dejado marchar al sirio ese, Naamán, sin aceptar lo que le ofrecía. Juro por el Señor que voy a correr tras él a ver si consigo algo”. 21 Guejazí salió tras Naamán y cuando este lo vio corriendo en pos de él, se apeó de su carro para recibirlo y le preguntó:
— ¿Va todo bien?
22 Guejazí respondió:
— Sí, todo va bien; pero mi amo me ha enviado a decirte que acaban de llegarle de la montaña de Efraín dos muchachos de la comunidad de profetas y que hagas el favor de darme para ellos un talento de plata y dos vestidos.
23 Naamán le dijo:
— Te ruego que aceptes dos talentos.
Le insistió y metió en dos sacos dos talentos de plata y dos vestidos. Luego encargó a dos criados para que se los llevasen a Guejazí. 24 Cuando llegó a la colina, Guejazí recogió todo y lo escondió en su casa. A continuación despidió a los criados y estos se marcharon. 25 Se presentó entonces ante su amo y Eliseo le preguntó:
— ¿De dónde vienes, Guejazí?
Él respondió:
— No he ido a ningún sitio.
26 Eliseo le replicó:
— Yo te seguía en espíritu cuando un hombre se bajaba del carro para ir a tu encuentro. ¿Acaso era el momento de aceptar plata y vestidos para comprar olivos y viñas, ovejas y vacas, siervos y siervas? 27 ¡Ahora la lepra de Naamán se les pegará para siempre a ti y tus descendientes!
Y cuando Guejazí salió de allí llevaba la piel blanca como la nieve.

Eliseo y Naamán
5 Naamán,(A) general del ejército del rey de Siria, era varón grande delante de su señor, y lo tenía en alta estima, porque por medio de él había dado Jehová salvación a Siria. Era este hombre valeroso en extremo, pero leproso. 2 Y de Siria habían salido bandas armadas, y habían llevado cautiva de la tierra de Israel a una muchacha, la cual servía a la mujer de Naamán. 3 Esta dijo a su señora: Si rogase mi señor al profeta que está en Samaria, él lo sanaría de su lepra. 4 Entrando Naamán a su señor, le relató diciendo: Así y así ha dicho una muchacha que es de la tierra de Israel. 5 Y le dijo el rey de Siria: Anda, ve, y yo enviaré cartas al rey de Israel.
Salió, pues, él, llevando consigo diez talentos de plata, y seis mil piezas de oro, y diez mudas de vestidos. 6 Tomó también cartas para el rey de Israel, que decían así: Cuando lleguen a ti estas cartas, sabe por ellas que yo envío a ti mi siervo Naamán, para que lo sanes de su lepra. 7 Luego que el rey de Israel leyó las cartas, rasgó sus vestidos, y dijo: ¿Soy yo Dios, que mate y dé vida, para que este envíe a mí a que sane un hombre de su lepra? Considerad ahora, y ved cómo busca ocasión contra mí.
8 Cuando Eliseo el varón de Dios oyó que el rey de Israel había rasgado sus vestidos, envió a decir al rey: ¿Por qué has rasgado tus vestidos? Venga ahora a mí, y sabrá que hay profeta en Israel. 9 Y vino Naamán con sus caballos y con su carro, y se paró a las puertas de la casa de Eliseo. 10 Entonces Eliseo le envió un mensajero, diciendo: Ve y lávate siete veces en el Jordán, y tu carne se te restaurará, y serás limpio. 11 Y Naamán se fue enojado, diciendo: He aquí yo decía para mí: Saldrá él luego, y estando en pie invocará el nombre de Jehová su Dios, y alzará su mano y tocará el lugar, y sanará la lepra. 12 Abana y Farfar, ríos de Damasco, ¿no son mejores que todas las aguas de Israel? Si me lavare en ellos, ¿no seré también limpio? Y se volvió, y se fue enojado. 13 Mas sus criados se le acercaron y le hablaron diciendo: Padre mío, si el profeta te mandara alguna gran cosa, ¿no la harías? ¿Cuánto más, diciéndote: Lávate, y serás limpio? 14 Él entonces descendió, y se zambulló siete veces en el Jordán, conforme a la palabra del varón de Dios; y su carne se volvió como la carne de un niño, y quedó limpio.
15 Y volvió al varón de Dios, él y toda su compañía, y se puso delante de él, y dijo: He aquí ahora conozco que no hay Dios en toda la tierra, sino en Israel. Te ruego que recibas algún presente de tu siervo. 16 Mas él dijo: Vive Jehová, en cuya presencia estoy, que no lo aceptaré. Y le instaba que aceptara alguna cosa, pero él no quiso. 17 Entonces Naamán dijo: Te ruego, pues, ¿de esta tierra no se dará a tu siervo la carga de un par de mulas? Porque de aquí en adelante tu siervo no sacrificará holocausto ni ofrecerá sacrificio a otros dioses, sino a Jehová. 18 En esto perdone Jehová a tu siervo: que cuando mi señor el rey entrare en el templo de Rimón para adorar en él, y se apoyare sobre mi brazo, si yo también me inclinare en el templo de Rimón; cuando haga tal, Jehová perdone en esto a tu siervo. 19 Y él le dijo: Ve en paz. Se fue, pues, y caminó como media legua de tierra.
20 Entonces Giezi, criado de Eliseo el varón de Dios, dijo entre sí: He aquí mi señor estorbó a este sirio Naamán, no tomando de su mano las cosas que había traído. Vive Jehová, que correré yo tras él y tomaré de él alguna cosa. 21 Y siguió Giezi a Naamán; y cuando vio Naamán que venía corriendo tras él, se bajó del carro para recibirle, y dijo: ¿Va todo bien? 22 Y él dijo: Bien. Mi señor me envía a decirte: He aquí vinieron a mí en esta hora del monte de Efraín dos jóvenes de los hijos de los profetas; te ruego que les des un talento de plata, y dos vestidos nuevos. 23 Dijo Naamán: Te ruego que tomes dos talentos. Y le insistió, y ató dos talentos de plata en dos bolsas, y dos vestidos nuevos, y lo puso todo a cuestas a dos de sus criados para que lo llevasen delante de él. 24 Y así que llegó a un lugar secreto, él lo tomó de mano de ellos, y lo guardó en la casa; luego mandó a los hombres que se fuesen. 25 Y él entró, y se puso delante de su señor. Y Eliseo le dijo: ¿De dónde vienes, Giezi? Y él dijo: Tu siervo no ha ido a ninguna parte. 26 Él entonces le dijo: ¿No estaba también allí mi corazón, cuando el hombre volvió de su carro a recibirte? ¿Es tiempo de tomar plata, y de tomar vestidos, olivares, viñas, ovejas, bueyes, siervos y siervas? 27 Por tanto, la lepra de Naamán se te pegará a ti y a tu descendencia para siempre. Y salió de delante de él leproso, blanco como la nieve.

Naaman Healed of Leprosy
5 Now Naaman was commander of the army of the king of Aram.(A) He was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded, because through him the Lord had given victory to Aram. He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy.[a](B)
2 Now bands of raiders(C) from Aram had gone out and had taken captive a young girl from Israel, and she served Naaman’s wife. 3 She said to her mistress, “If only my master would see the prophet(D) who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.”
4 Naaman went to his master and told him what the girl from Israel had said. 5 “By all means, go,” the king of Aram replied. “I will send a letter to the king of Israel.” So Naaman left, taking with him ten talents[b] of silver, six thousand shekels[c] of gold and ten sets of clothing.(E) 6 The letter that he took to the king of Israel read: “With this letter I am sending my servant Naaman to you so that you may cure him of his leprosy.”
7 As soon as the king of Israel read the letter,(F) he tore his robes and said, “Am I God?(G) Can I kill and bring back to life?(H) Why does this fellow send someone to me to be cured of his leprosy? See how he is trying to pick a quarrel(I) with me!”
8 When Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his robes, he sent him this message: “Why have you torn your robes? Have the man come to me and he will know that there is a prophet(J) in Israel.” 9 So Naaman went with his horses and chariots and stopped at the door of Elisha’s house. 10 Elisha sent a messenger to say to him, “Go, wash(K) yourself seven times(L) in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored and you will be cleansed.”
11 But Naaman went away angry and said, “I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, wave his hand(M) over the spot and cure me of my leprosy. 12 Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters(N) of Israel? Couldn’t I wash in them and be cleansed?” So he turned and went off in a rage.(O)
13 Naaman’s servants went to him and said, “My father,(P) if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be cleansed’!” 14 So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times,(Q) as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored(R) and became clean like that of a young boy.(S)
15 Then Naaman and all his attendants went back to the man of God(T). He stood before him and said, “Now I know(U) that there is no God in all the world except in Israel. So please accept a gift(V) from your servant.”
16 The prophet answered, “As surely as the Lord lives, whom I serve, I will not accept a thing.” And even though Naaman urged him, he refused.(W)
17 “If you will not,” said Naaman, “please let me, your servant, be given as much earth(X) as a pair of mules can carry, for your servant will never again make burnt offerings and sacrifices to any other god but the Lord. 18 But may the Lord forgive your servant for this one thing: When my master enters the temple of Rimmon to bow down and he is leaning(Y) on my arm and I have to bow there also—when I bow down in the temple of Rimmon, may the Lord forgive your servant for this.”
19 “Go in peace,”(Z) Elisha said.
After Naaman had traveled some distance, 20 Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said to himself, “My master was too easy on Naaman, this Aramean, by not accepting from him what he brought. As surely as the Lord(AA) lives, I will run after him and get something from him.”
21 So Gehazi hurried after Naaman. When Naaman saw him running toward him, he got down from the chariot to meet him. “Is everything all right?” he asked.
22 “Everything is all right,” Gehazi answered. “My master sent me to say, ‘Two young men from the company of the prophets have just come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent[d] of silver and two sets of clothing.’”(AB)
23 “By all means, take two talents,” said Naaman. He urged Gehazi to accept them, and then tied up the two talents of silver in two bags, with two sets of clothing. He gave them to two of his servants, and they carried them ahead of Gehazi. 24 When Gehazi came to the hill, he took the things from the servants and put them away in the house. He sent the men away and they left.
25 When he went in and stood before his master, Elisha asked him, “Where have you been, Gehazi?”
“Your servant didn’t go anywhere,” Gehazi answered.
26 But Elisha said to him, “Was not my spirit with you when the man got down from his chariot to meet you? Is this the time(AC) to take money or to accept clothes—or olive groves and vineyards, or flocks and herds, or male and female slaves?(AD) 27 Naaman’s leprosy(AE) will cling to you and to your descendants forever.” Then Gehazi(AF) went from Elisha’s presence and his skin was leprous—it had become as white as snow.(AG)

2 And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman's wife.
3 And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.
4 And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.

17 And Naaman said, Shall there not then, I pray thee, be given to thy servant two mules' burden of earth? for thy servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the Lord.
18 In this thing the Lord pardon thy servant, that when my master goeth into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leaneth on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon: when I bow down myself in the house of Rimmon, the Lord pardon thy servant in this thing.
19 And he said unto him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way.
20 But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath spared Naaman this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: but, as the Lord liveth, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him.
21 So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him, and said, Is all well?
22 And he said, All is well. My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets: give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments.
23 And Naaman said, Be content, take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and laid them upon two of his servants; and they bare them before him.
24 And when he came to the tower, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: and he let the men go, and they departed.
25 But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, Whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went no whither.
26 And he said unto him, Went not mine heart with thee, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants?
27 The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.

Now be advised, when this letter comes to you, that I have sent Naaman my servant to you, that you may heal him of his leprosy.
7 And it happened, when the king of Israel read the letter, that he tore his clothes and said, “Am I (E)God, to kill and make alive, that this man sends a man to me to heal him of his leprosy? Therefore please consider, and see how he seeks a quarrel with me.”
8 So it was, when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, “Why have you torn your clothes? Please let him come to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.”

Gehazi’s Greed
20 But (O)Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “Look, my master has spared Naaman this Syrian, while not receiving from his hands what he brought; but as the Lord lives, I will run after him and take something from him.” 21 So Gehazi pursued Naaman. When Naaman saw him running after him, he got down from the chariot to meet him, and said, “Is all well?”
22 And he said, “All is (P)well. My master has sent me, saying, ‘Indeed, just now two young men of the sons of the prophets have come to me from the mountains of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two changes of garments.’ ”
23 So Naaman said, “Please, take two talents.” And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and handed them to two of his servants; and they carried them on ahead of him. 24 When he came to [d]the citadel, he took them from their hand, and stored them away in the house; then he let the men go, and they departed. 25 Now he went in and stood before his master. Elisha said to him, “Where did you go, Gehazi?”
And he said, “Your servant did not go anywhere.”
26 Then he said to him, “Did not my heart go with you when the man turned back from his chariot to meet you? Is it (Q)time to receive money and to receive clothing, olive groves and vineyards, sheep and oxen, male and female servants? 27 Therefore the leprosy of Naaman (R)shall cling to you and your descendants forever.” And he went out from his presence (S)leprous, as white as snow.
