Una mujer necesitada
4 Una mujer que había estado casada con un profeta le dijo a Eliseo:
—Mi marido estuvo siempre al servicio de Dios y de usted, pero ahora está muerto. Él había pedido dinero prestado, y ahora el hombre que se lo prestó se quiere llevar como esclavos a mis dos hijos.
2 Eliseo le preguntó:
—¿Qué puedo hacer para ayudarte? Dime, ¿qué tienes en tu casa?
La mujer le contestó:
—¡Lo único que tengo es una jarra de aceite!
3 Eliseo le dijo:
—Ve y pídele a tus vecinas que te presten jarras vacías. Trata de conseguir todas las que puedas. 4 Después, entra en tu casa con tus hijos y cierra la puerta. Echa aceite en las jarras y ve poniendo aparte las que se vayan llenando.
5 La mujer se despidió de Eliseo, fue a su casa, entró junto con sus hijos y cerró la puerta. Los hijos le llevaban las jarras y la mujer las llenaba con aceite. 6 Después de un rato, la mujer le dijo a uno de sus hijos:
—Tráeme otra jarra.
Él le contestó:
—Ya no quedan más.
En ese momento el aceite se acabó. 7 La mujer fue a ver al profeta y le contó lo que había pasado. Él le dijo:
—Ve, vende el aceite, y págale a ese hombre lo que le debes. Con lo que te quede podrán vivir tú y tus hijos.
Una mujer valiente
8 Un día, Eliseo fue al pueblo de Sunem. Allí, una mujer muy importante le insistió que fuera a comer a su casa. Y cada vez que Eliseo pasaba por allí, se quedaba a comer en casa de ella. 9 Entonces la mujer le dijo a su esposo:
—Mira, yo sé que este hombre que nos visita cuando pasa por el pueblo, es un profeta de Dios. 10 Construyamos en la terraza una habitación. Pongámosle una cama, una mesa, una silla y una lámpara, y así el profeta podrá quedarse cada vez que venga a visitarnos.
11 Un día, Eliseo llegó y se quedó a dormir en la habitación que le habían construido. 12-15 Luego le dijo a su sirviente Guehazí:
—Esta señora se ha preocupado mucho por nosotros, pregúntale qué podemos hacer por ella. Pregúntale también si quiere que le hablemos bien de ella al rey o al jefe del ejército.
Cuando el sirviente de Eliseo se lo preguntó, la mujer contestó:
—No me falta nada; vivo tranquila entre mi gente.
Cuando Eliseo le preguntó a su sirviente qué podían hacer por ella, Guehazí contestó:
—Bueno, ella no tiene hijos y su marido es anciano.
Entonces Eliseo le dijo:
—Llámala.
El sirviente la llamó, y cuando ella llegó, se quedó en la puerta. 16 Eliseo le dijo:
—El próximo año, por estas fechas, llevarás en tus brazos un hijo tuyo.
La mujer respondió:
—Usted es un profeta de Dios y yo soy su servidora. Por favor, no me mienta.
17 Pero la mujer quedó embarazada y al año siguiente tuvo un hijo, tal como le había dicho Eliseo. 18 El niño creció, y un día fue a ver a su padre, que andaba en el campo con sus trabajadores. 19 El niño se quejó, y le gritó a su padre:
—¡Ay! ¡Mi cabeza! ¡Me duele la cabeza!
El padre le ordenó a un sirviente que llevara al niño a donde estaba su madre. 20 El sirviente lo levantó y se lo llevó a la madre. Ella lo sentó sobre sus rodillas hasta el mediodía, pero a esa hora murió. 21 La madre subió al niño a la habitación del profeta y lo puso sobre la cama. Después salió, cerró la puerta, 22 llamó a su esposo, y le dijo:
—Préstame a uno de tus sirvientes, y también una burra. Necesito ir rápidamente a buscar al profeta; enseguida vuelvo.
23 El esposo le preguntó:
—¿Por qué vas a ir a verlo? Hoy no es día de fiesta religiosa; tampoco es sábado ni hay luna nueva.
La mujer respondió:
—Yo sé lo que hago.
24 La mujer ordenó que prepararan la burra, y le dijo a su sirviente:
—Apura al animal. Que no se detenga hasta que yo te diga.
25 La mujer partió y fue a ver al profeta, que estaba en el monte Carmelo. Cuando Eliseo la vio, le dijo a su sirviente: «Mira, allá a lo lejos viene la señora del pueblo de Sunem. 26 Corre a recibirla y pregúntale cómo están ella, su marido y su hijo».
Cuando Guehazí se lo preguntó, la mujer respondió que estaban bien. 27 Pero cuando ella llegó a donde estaba Eliseo, se arrojó a sus pies. Guehazí entonces se acercó para apartarla, pero Eliseo le dijo:
—¡Déjala! Ella está muy, pero muy triste, y Dios no me ha dicho qué sucede.
28 Entonces la mujer le dijo a Eliseo:
—¡Yo no le pedí a usted un hijo! ¿Acaso no le dije que no me engañara?
29 Eliseo le ordenó a Guehazí:
—Prepárate, toma mi bastón, y ve a donde está el niño. Si te encuentras con alguien en el camino, no lo saludes. Si alguna persona te saluda, no le contestes. Cuando llegues, coloca mi bastón sobre la cara del niño.
30 Pero la madre del niño le dijo a Eliseo:
—Juro por Dios y por la vida de usted, que no volveré a mi casa si no me acompaña.
Entonces Eliseo se fue con ella.
31 Guehazí llegó más rápido que ellos y puso el bastón sobre la cara del niño, pero éste no se movió ni dio señales de vida. Guehazí regresó para encontrarse con Eliseo y le dijo: «El niño no se mueve ni reacciona».
32 Cuando Eliseo llegó a la casa, vio al niño que estaba muerto y tendido sobre su cama. 33 Así que entró en la habitación, cerró la puerta, y se quedó a solas con el niño. Después de orar a Dios, 34 subió a la cama y se tendió sobre el cuerpo del niño. Puso su boca sobre la boca del niño, sus ojos sobre sus ojos y sus manos sobre sus manos. En cuanto el cuerpo de Eliseo tocó el del niño, éste comenzó a revivir. 35 El profeta se levantó y caminó de un lado al otro de la habitación. Después volvió a tenderse sobre el cuerpo del niño. Éste estornudó siete veces y después abrió los ojos. 36 Eliseo llamó a Guehazí y le dijo: «Llama de inmediato a la madre». El sirviente llamó a la madre, y cuando ella llegó a donde estaba Eliseo, éste le dijo: «Aquí tienes a tu hijo». 37 La mujer se acercó y se arrojó a los pies de Eliseo. Luego tomó a su hijo y salió de la habitación.
Eliseo da comida a los profetas
38 Después de esto, Eliseo volvió a Guilgal. Por esa época no había qué comer en la región, y todos pasaban hambre. Un día, Eliseo estaba sentado con los profetas, y le dijo a su sirviente: «Prepara en la olla grande un guiso».
39 Uno de los profetas, que había ido al campo para juntar hierbas, encontró un arbusto silvestre, cuyos frutos eran como calabazas. Llenó su capa con ellas, y cuando llegó a la casa las cortó y las puso en el guiso sin saber qué eran.
40 Después sirvieron el guiso a los profetas para que lo comieran. Mientras comían, ellos gritaron: «¡Eliseo, hombre de Dios, el guiso está envenenado!»
No pudieron comerlo, 41 pero Eliseo dijo: «¡Traigan harina!»
Ellos se la llevaron, y Eliseo la echó en la olla, y ordenó: «Sírvanles de comer».
Esta vez todos comieron y no les hizo daño.
42 Después llegó un hombre que venía de Baal-salisá, trayéndole a Eliseo veinte panes de cebada, hechos con harina de la primera cosecha, y además le llevó trigo fresco en una bolsa. Eliseo le dijo a su sirviente:
—Dale a los profetas para que coman.
43 Pero su sirviente dijo:
—¿Cómo hago para repartir esto entre cien personas?
Eliseo le repitió:
—Dáselos para que coman, porque Dios ha dicho: “Ellos van a comer, y aun sobrará”.
44 Así que el sirviente les dio de comer, y tal como Dios había dicho, sobró comida.

The Widow’s Olive Oil
4 The wife of a man from the company(A) of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor(B) is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.”
2 Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?”
“Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”(C)
3 Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. 4 Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.”
5 She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. 6 When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.”
But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing.
7 She went and told the man of God,(D) and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”
The Shunammite’s Son Restored to Life
8 One day Elisha went to Shunem.(E) And a well-to-do woman was there, who urged him to stay for a meal. So whenever he came by, he stopped there to eat. 9 She said to her husband, “I know that this man who often comes our way is a holy man of God. 10 Let’s make a small room on the roof and put in it a bed and a table, a chair and a lamp for him. Then he can stay(F) there whenever he comes to us.”
11 One day when Elisha came, he went up to his room and lay down there. 12 He said to his servant Gehazi, “Call the Shunammite.”(G) So he called her, and she stood before him. 13 Elisha said to him, “Tell her, ‘You have gone to all this trouble for us. Now what can be done for you? Can we speak on your behalf to the king or the commander of the army?’”
She replied, “I have a home among my own people.”
14 “What can be done for her?” Elisha asked.
Gehazi said, “She has no son, and her husband is old.”
15 Then Elisha said, “Call her.” So he called her, and she stood in the doorway. 16 “About this time(H) next year,” Elisha said, “you will hold a son in your arms.”
“No, my lord!” she objected. “Please, man of God, don’t mislead your servant!”
17 But the woman became pregnant, and the next year about that same time she gave birth to a son, just as Elisha had told her.
18 The child grew, and one day he went out to his father, who was with the reapers.(I) 19 He said to his father, “My head! My head!”
His father told a servant, “Carry him to his mother.” 20 After the servant had lifted him up and carried him to his mother, the boy sat on her lap until noon, and then he died. 21 She went up and laid him on the bed(J) of the man of God, then shut the door and went out.
22 She called her husband and said, “Please send me one of the servants and a donkey so I can go to the man of God quickly and return.”
23 “Why go to him today?” he asked. “It’s not the New Moon(K) or the Sabbath.”
“That’s all right,” she said.
24 She saddled the donkey and said to her servant, “Lead on; don’t slow down for me unless I tell you.” 25 So she set out and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel.(L)
When he saw her in the distance, the man of God said to his servant Gehazi, “Look! There’s the Shunammite! 26 Run to meet her and ask her, ‘Are you all right? Is your husband all right? Is your child all right?’”
“Everything is all right,” she said.
27 When she reached the man of God at the mountain, she took hold of his feet. Gehazi came over to push her away, but the man of God said, “Leave her alone! She is in bitter distress,(M) but the Lord has hidden it from me and has not told me why.”
28 “Did I ask you for a son, my lord?” she said. “Didn’t I tell you, ‘Don’t raise my hopes’?”
29 Elisha said to Gehazi, “Tuck your cloak into your belt,(N) take my staff(O) in your hand and run. Don’t greet anyone you meet, and if anyone greets you, do not answer. Lay my staff on the boy’s face.”
30 But the child’s mother said, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So he got up and followed her.
31 Gehazi went on ahead and laid the staff on the boy’s face, but there was no sound or response. So Gehazi went back to meet Elisha and told him, “The boy has not awakened.”
32 When Elisha reached the house, there was the boy lying dead on his couch.(P) 33 He went in, shut the door on the two of them and prayed(Q) to the Lord. 34 Then he got on the bed and lay on the boy, mouth to mouth, eyes to eyes, hands to hands. As he stretched(R) himself out on him, the boy’s body grew warm. 35 Elisha turned away and walked back and forth in the room and then got on the bed and stretched out on him once more. The boy sneezed seven times(S) and opened his eyes.(T)
36 Elisha summoned Gehazi and said, “Call the Shunammite.” And he did. When she came, he said, “Take your son.”(U) 37 She came in, fell at his feet and bowed to the ground. Then she took her son and went out.
Death in the Pot
38 Elisha returned to Gilgal(V) and there was a famine(W) in that region. While the company of the prophets was meeting with him, he said to his servant, “Put on the large pot and cook some stew for these prophets.”
39 One of them went out into the fields to gather herbs and found a wild vine and picked as many of its gourds as his garment could hold. When he returned, he cut them up into the pot of stew, though no one knew what they were. 40 The stew was poured out for the men, but as they began to eat it, they cried out, “Man of God, there is death in the pot!” And they could not eat it.
41 Elisha said, “Get some flour.” He put it into the pot and said, “Serve it to the people to eat.” And there was nothing harmful in the pot.(X)
Feeding of a Hundred
42 A man came from Baal Shalishah,(Y) bringing the man of God twenty loaves(Z) of barley bread(AA) baked from the first ripe grain, along with some heads of new grain. “Give it to the people to eat,” Elisha said.
43 “How can I set this before a hundred men?” his servant asked.
But Elisha answered, “Give it to the people to eat.(AB) For this is what the Lord says: ‘They will eat and have some left over.(AC)’” 44 Then he set it before them, and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the Lord.

4 Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the Lord: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.
2 And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
3 Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.
4 And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.
5 So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.
6 And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.
7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.
8 And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread.
9 And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually.
10 Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.
11 And it fell on a day, that he came thither, and he turned into the chamber, and lay there.
12 And he said to Gehazi his servant, Call this Shunammite. And when he had called her, she stood before him.
13 And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people.
14 And he said, What then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, Verily she hath no child, and her husband is old.
15 And he said, Call her. And when he had called her, she stood in the door.
16 And he said, About this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid.
17 And the woman conceived, and bare a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life.
18 And when the child was grown, it fell on a day, that he went out to his father to the reapers.
19 And he said unto his father, My head, my head. And he said to a lad, Carry him to his mother.
20 And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died.
21 And she went up, and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out.
22 And she called unto her husband, and said, Send me, I pray thee, one of the young men, and one of the asses, that I may run to the man of God, and come again.
23 And he said, Wherefore wilt thou go to him to day? it is neither new moon, nor sabbath. And she said, It shall be well.
24 Then she saddled an ass, and said to her servant, Drive, and go forward; slack not thy riding for me, except I bid thee.
25 So she went and came unto the man of God to mount Carmel. And it came to pass, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold, yonder is that Shunammite:
26 Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say unto her, Is it well with thee? is it well with thy husband? is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well:
27 And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is vexed within her: and the Lord hath hid it from me, and hath not told me.
28 Then she said, Did I desire a son of my lord? did I not say, Do not deceive me?
29 Then he said to Gehazi, Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thine hand, and go thy way: if thou meet any man, salute him not; and if any salute thee, answer him not again: and lay my staff upon the face of the child.
30 And the mother of the child said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And he arose, and followed her.
31 And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Wherefore he went again to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not awaked.
32 And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed.
33 He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them twain, and prayed unto the Lord.
34 And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm.
35 Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.
36 And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, Take up thy son.
37 Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up her son, and went out.
38 And Elisha came again to Gilgal: and there was a dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said unto his servant, Set on the great pot, and seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets.
39 And one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered thereof wild gourds his lap full, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage: for they knew them not.
40 So they poured out for the men to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the pottage, that they cried out, and said, O thou man of God, there is death in the pot. And they could not eat thereof.
41 But he said, Then bring meal. And he cast it into the pot; and he said, Pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was no harm in the pot.
42 And there came a man from Baalshalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of corn in the husk thereof. And he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat.
43 And his servitor said, What, should I set this before an hundred men? He said again, Give the people, that they may eat: for thus saith the Lord, They shall eat, and shall leave thereof.
44 So he set it before them, and they did eat, and left thereof, according to the word of the Lord.

4 একজন বিবাহিত ভাববাদীর মৃত্যু হলে তার স্ত্রী এসে ইলীশায়ের কাছে কেঁদে পড়লো, “আমার স্বামী অনুগত ভৃত্যের মতো আপনার সেবা করেছেন। কিন্তু এখন তিনি মৃত! আপনি জানেন আমার স্বামী প্রভুকে সম্মান করেন কিন্তু তিনি একজন পুরুষের কাছে টাকা ধার করেছিলেন। এখন সেই মহাজন ক্রীতদাস বানানোর জন্য আমার দুই পুত্রকে নিতে আসছে।”

5 তখন সেই স্ত্রীলোকটি বাড়ী ফিরে গিয়ে সমস্ত দরজা বন্ধ করে দিল। সে আর তার পুত্ররাই শুধুমাত্র ঘরে ছিল। পুত্ররা একটার পর একটা বাটি আনছিল। 6 স্ত্রীলোকটি সেগুলোতে তেল ঢালছিল। এমনি করে করে বহু পাত্র ভরা হল। অবশেষে সে তার পুত্রদের বললো, “আমাকে আর একটি বাটি এনে দাও।”
তার এক পুত্র তাকে বললো, “আর তো বাটি নেই।” তৎক্ষণাৎ জালার তেল ফুরিয়ে গেল।

8 ইলীশায় যখন একদিন শূনেমে যান, সেখানকার এক ধনবতী মহিলা তাঁকে নিজের বাড়িতে খাবার জন্য নেমন্তন্ন করল। এরপর থেকে ইলীশায় ওখান দিয়ে গেলেই ঐ মহিলার বাড়িতে গিয়ে খাওয়া-দাওয়া করতেন।
9 সেই মহিলা তাঁর স্বামীকে বলল, “আমি জানি ইনি ঈশ্বরের একজন পবিত্র মানুষ। সব সময়ই তিনি আমাদের বাড়ির সামনে দিয়ে যাতায়াত করেন। 10 চলো না, ওঁর জন্য ছাদে একটা ছোটো ঘর তুলে দিই। সেখানে একটা বিছানা, টেবিল, চেয়ার আর বাতিদান রেখে দেব। তাহলে এরপর যখন তিনি আমাদের বাড়ি আসবেন ঐ ঘরখানা নিজের জন্য ব্যবহার করতে পারবেন।”
11 এক দিন ইলীশায় এই মহিলার বাড়ীতে এলেন, তিনি কক্ষে গিয়ে বিশ্রাম নিলেন। 12 ইলীশায় তাঁর ভৃত্য গেহসিকে বললেন, “ঐ শূনেমীয় মহিলাটিকে ডাক।”
ভৃত্যটি মহিলাকে ডেকে আনার পর, সে সামনে দাঁড়ালে ইলীশায় 13 তাঁর ভৃত্যকে বললেন, “ওকে বলো, ‘দেখো তুমি আমাদের দুজনের যত্ন নেবার জন্য তোমার যথাসাধ্য করেছো। এখন আমরা তোমার জন্য কি করতে পারি? আমরা কি তোমার হয়ে রাজা বা সেনাপতির কাছে কিছু বলবো?’”

15 ইলীশায় বললেন, “ওকে ডেকে নিয়ে এসো।” গেহসি তখন সেই মহিলাকে ডাকতে গেলো। মহিলা এসে দরজার কাছে দাঁড়ালে 16 গেহসি তাকে বলল, “প্রায় একই সময়, আগামী বছর তুমি তোমার নিজের পুত্রকে আদর করবে।”
একথা শুনে মহিলাটি বলল, “হে প্রভু, আমার সঙ্গে মিথ্যে ছলনা করবেন না!”
শূনেমের মহিলার একটি সন্তান লাভ
17 ইলীশায়ের কথা মতোই, পরের বছর সেই মহিলা তার পুত্র সন্তানের জন্ম দিল।
18 ছেলেটি বড় হবার পর একদিন মাঠে তার পিতার ও অন্যদের সঙ্গে শস্য কাটা দেখতে গেল। 19 সেখানে গিয়ে ছেলেটা হঠাৎ বলে উঠল, “ওফ্ আমার বড্ড মাথা ব্যথা করছে!”
তার পিতা ভৃত্যদের বলল, “ওকে তাড়াতাড়ি ওর মায়ের কাছে নিয়ে যাও!”
20 ভৃত্যরা ছেলেটিকে তার মায়ের কাছে নিয়ে যাবার পর ও দুপুর পর্যন্ত মায়ের কোলে বসে থেকে তারপর মারা গেল।
মহিলাটি ইলীশায়ের সঙ্গে দেখা করতে গেলেন
21 মহিলাটি তখন মৃত ছেলেটিকে ইলীশায়ের ঘরে তাঁর বিছানায় শুইয়ে দিয়ে ঘরের দরজা বন্ধ করে বেরিয়ে এল। 22 স্বামীকে ডেকে বলল, “ওগো, আমায় একটা গাধা আর একজন ভৃত্য দাও। আমি একবার তাড়াতাড়ি ঈশ্বরের লোকের কাছ থেকে ঘুরে আসি।”
23 মহিলার স্বামী বলল, “আজ কেন ওঁর কাছে যেতে চাইছো? আজ তো অমাবস্যাও নয়, বিশ্রামের দিনও নয়।”
সে স্বামীকে বলল, “কিছু ভেবো না, সব ঠিক হয়ে যাবে।”
24 তারপর গাধার পিঠে জিন চাপিয়ে মহিলা তার কাজের লোককে বলল, “চলো এবার তাড়াতাড়ি যাওয়া যাক! কেবল মাত্র যখন আমি বলব তখন ধীরে যেও!”
25 ইলীশায়ের সঙ্গে দেখা করতে মহিলা কর্মিল পর্বতে গেল।
ইলীশায় দূর থেকে শূনেমীয় মহিলাকে আসতে দেখে তাঁর ভৃত্য গেহসিকে বললেন, “দেখো, সেই শূনেমীয় মহিলা আসছেন! 26 তুমি তাড়াতাড়ি দৌড়ে গিয়ে খোঁজ নাও তো, ‘কি হল সব ঠিক আছে তো? তোমার স্বামী কেমন আছে? বাচ্চাটার শরীর ভালো আছে তো?’”
গেহসি মহিলাকে এসব জিজ্ঞেস করতে সে বলল, “সবই ঠিকঠাক আছে।”
27 তারপর পাহাড়ের ওপরে ইলীশায়ের সামনে নত হয়ে তাঁর পা জড়িয়ে ধরলেন। গেহসি মহিলাকে ছাড়িয়ে নিতে গেলে ইলীশায় বললেন, “ওকে কিছু ক্ষণ আমার সঙ্গে একা থাকতে দাও! ও খুবই ভেঙ্গে পড়েছে। আর প্রভুও আমাকে এখবর দেন নি, আমার কাছে গোপন করেছিলেন।”
28 তখন সেই শূনেমীয় মহিলা বলল, “আমি তো আপনার কাছে কখনও কোন পুত্র চাইনি। আমি তো আপনাকে বলেছিলাম, ‘আমার সঙ্গে ছলনা করবেন না!’”
29 একথা শুনে, ইলীশায় গেহসিকে বললেন, “কোমর বেঁধে তৈরি হও, আমার লাঠিটা নাও এবং এক্ষুনি যাও। পথে কারো সঙ্গে কথা বলার জন্য থেমো না। যদি কারো সঙ্গে দেখা হয়, কি কেমন পর্যন্ত বলার দরকার নেই। তোমাকেও কেউ বললে, কোন উত্তর দেবে না। মহিলার বাড়িতে পৌঁছে আমার লাঠিটা বাচ্চাটার মুখে ছুঁইয়ে দিও।”
30 কিন্তু ছেলেটির মা বলল, “আমি জীবন্ত প্রভু এবং আপনার নামে শপথ করে বলছি: আমি আপনাকে ছেড়ে যাব না!”
তাই ইলীশায় উঠে দাঁড়ালেন এবং তাকে অনুসরণ করলেন।
31 এদিকে গেহসি মহিলা ও ইলীশায়ের আগে আগে বাড়িতে এসে সেই লাঠিটা নিয়ে বাচ্চাটার মুখে ছোঁয়ালো, কিন্তু তাতে কোন জীবনের লক্ষণ দেখা গেল না। গেহসি তখন ফিরে এসে ইলীশায়কে বলল, “ছেলেটা তো উঠল না প্রভু!”
শূনেমীয় মহিলাটির পুত্র আবার বেঁচে উঠল
32 ইলীশায় বাড়ির ভেতর তাঁর ঘরে গিয়ে দেখলেন, মৃত শিশুটিকে তাঁরই বিছানায় শোওয়ানো আছে। 33 ঘরে ঢুকে দরজা বন্ধ করে দিলেন ইলীশায়। এখন সেখানে শুধু তিনি আর সেই মৃত ছেলেটি, এরপর তিনি প্রভুর কাছে প্রার্থনা করলেন। 34 তারপর বিছানায় গিয়ে শুয়ে পড়লেন সেই মৃত ছেলেটির দেহের ওপর। তিনি ছেলেটির মুখের ওপর নিজের মুখ রাখলেন, তার চোখের ওপর নিজের চোখ এবং তার হাতের ওপর নিজের হাত রাখলেন। এভাবে ঐ মৃত শরীরটা গরম হয়ে না ওঠা পর্যন্ত শুয়ে থাকলেন ইলীশায়।
35 তারপর উঠে পড়ে ঘরটার চারপাশে কিছুক্ষণ হেঁটে আবার গিয়ে ঐ দেহের ওপর শুলেন তিনি। ওভাবেই তিনি শুয়ে থাকলেন, যত ক্ষণ না সাতবার হাঁচার পর চোখ মেলে উঠে বসল ছেলেটা।
36 ইলীশায় গেহসিকে বললেন, “যাও গিয়ে ওর মাকে ডেকে নিয়ে এসো!”
গেহসি তাকে নিয়ে এলে, ইলীশায় বললেন, “ছেলেকে কোলে নাও।”
37 তখন সেই মহিলা ঘরে ঢুকে ভক্তি ভরে ইলীশায়ের পায়ে প্রণাম করে ছেলেকে কোলে তুলে বেরিয়ে গেল।
ইলীশায় ও বিষ মেশানো ঝোল
38 গিল্গলে তখন দুর্ভিক্ষ চলছিল। ইলীশায় আবার সেখানে গেলেন। ভাববাদীদের দলটি তাঁর সামনে বসে ছিল। ইলীশায় তাঁর ভৃত্যকে বললেন, “বড় পাত্রটা আগুনে বসিয়ে এদের জন্য একটু রান্না কর।”
39 একজন মাঠে শাকসব্জি তুলতে গেল। মাঠে গিয়ে একটা ফলভরা জঙ্গলী লতা দেখতে পেয়ে লোকটা ফল ছিড়ে কোঁচড়ে বেঁধে নিয়ে এলো। তারপর সেই ফল কেটে পাত্রে দিয়ে দিল, যদিও ভাববাদীদের দল আদৌ জানতো না ওটা কি ধরণের ফল।
40 ঝোল রান্না হলে পাত্রে কিছুটা ঢেলে সবাইকে খেতে দেওয়া হল। কিন্তু সকলে সেই ঝোল মুখে দিয়েই চিৎকার করে ইলীশায়কে বলল, “ঈশ্বরের লোক! পাত্রে বিষ মেশানো আছে!” ঝোলের স্বাদ বিষাক্ত হওয়ায় ওরা কেউই তা খেতে পারলো না।
41 ইলীশায় তখন কিছুটা ময়দা আনতে বললেন। ময়দা আনা হলে, তিনি সেই ময়দা পাত্রে ছুঁড়ে দিয়ে বললেন, “এবার ঐ ঝোল সবাইকে খেতে দাও।”
আর আশ্চর্য ব্যাপার, ঝোলটা বেশ খাবার যোগ্য হয়ে গেল।
ইলীশায় ভাববাদীদের দলকে খাওয়ালেন
42 বাল্-শালিশা থেকে একজন ইলীশায়ের জন্য নবান্নের ফসল হিসেবে 20 খানা যবের রুটি আর ঝোলা ভরে শস্য উপহার নিয়ে এসেছিল। ইলীশায় বললেন, “এইসব খাবার এখানে যারা আছে তাদের খেতে দাও।”
43 ইলীশায়ের ভৃত্য বললো, “এখানে প্রায় 100 জন লোক আছে। এত জন লোককে আমি এইটুকু খাবার কি করে দেব?”
কিন্তু ইলীশায় বললেন, “আমি বলছি তুমি খেতে দাও। প্রভু বলছেন, ‘সবাই খাওয়ার পরেও খাবার পড়ে থাকবে।’”
44 তখন ইলীশায়ের ভৃত্য সেই সব খাবার নিয়ে ভাববাদীদের সামনে ধরলো। তাদের পেট ভরে খাওয়ানোর পরেও, প্রভু যেমন বলেছিলেন দেখা গেল তখনও খাবার পড়ে আছে।
