Historia de Eliseo (2—8)
La ascensión de Elías
2 Cuando el Señor iba a ascender a Elías al cielo en el torbellino, Elías y Eliseo partieron de Guilgal. 2 Elías dijo a Eliseo:
— Quédate aquí, pues el Señor me ha ordenado ir a Betel.
Pero Eliseo contestó:
— Juro por el Señor y por tu vida que no te abandonaré.
Bajaron a Betel 3 y la comunidad de profetas que vivía allí salió a recibir a Eliseo y le dijo:
— ¿No sabes que el Señor te arrebatará hoy a tu maestro?
Él respondió:
— ¡Ya lo sé! ¡Callaos!
4 Luego Elías dijo a Eliseo:
— Quédate aquí, pues el Señor me ha ordenado ir a Jericó.
Pero Eliseo contestó:
— Juro por el Señor y por tu vida que no te abandonaré.
Fueron a Jericó 5 y los profetas que vivían allí formando un grupo se acercaron a Eliseo y le dijeron:
— ¿No sabes que el Señor te arrebatará hoy a tu maestro?
Él respondió:
— ¡Ya lo sé! ¡Callaos!
6 Después le dijo Elías:
— Quédate aquí, pues el Señor me ha ordenado ir al Jordán.
Pero Eliseo contestó:
— Juro por el Señor y por tu vida que no te abandonaré.
Y se fueron los dos. 7 Fueron también cincuenta profetas y se detuvieron a cierta distancia, frente a ellos. Ellos dos se detuvieron junto al Jordán. 8 Entonces Elías agarró el manto, lo enrolló y golpeó con él las aguas, que se partieron por la mitad y ellos atravesaron por lo seco. 9 Cuando cruzaron, Elías dijo a Eliseo:
— Pídeme lo que quieras, antes de que sea arrebatado de junto a ti.
Eliseo le dijo:
— Déjame recibir dos tercios de tu espíritu.
10 Elías respondió:
— ¡Me pides demasiado! Pero si logras verme cuando sea arrebatado de tu lado, lo tendrás. Si no me ves, no lo tendrás.
11 Mientras ellos seguían caminando y hablando, un carro de fuego tirado por caballos de fuego los separó y Elías subió al cielo en el torbellino. 12 Eliseo lo miraba y gritaba:
— ¡Padre mío, padre mío, carro y caballería de Israel!
Cuando dejó de verlo, rompió en dos su vestido, 13 recogió el manto que se le había caído a Elías, se volvió y se detuvo a orillas del Jordán. 14 Golpeó entonces las aguas con el manto que se le había caído a Elías y exclamó:
— ¿Dónde está el Señor, el Dios de Elías? ¿Dónde está?
Volvió a golpear las aguas, que se partieron por la mitad, y Eliseo las atravesó. 15 Cuando lo vieron los profetas de Jericó que estaban enfrente, exclamaron:
— ¡Eliseo lleva el espíritu de Elías!
Entonces fueron a su encuentro y se inclinaron ante él. 16 Luego le dijeron:
— Mira, entre tus servidores hay cincuenta valientes. Deja que vayan a buscar a tu maestro, no sea que el espíritu del Señor lo haya arrebatado y arrojado en algún monte o valle.
Pero Eliseo respondió:
— No los mandéis.
17 Pero le insistieron tanto que no tuvo más remedio que permitírselo. Enviaron a los cincuenta hombres que estuvieron buscándolo durante tres días, aunque no lo encontraron. 18 Cuando regresaron a Jericó, donde se había quedado Eliseo, este les dijo:
— ¿No os dije que no fuerais?
Milagros de Eliseo
19 Los habitantes de Jericó dijeron a Eliseo:
— Mira, la situación de la ciudad es buena, como puedes ver. Pero el agua es mala y la tierra, estéril.
20 Eliseo les dijo:
— Traedme un plato nuevo con sal.
Cuando se lo llevaron, 21 Eliseo fue al manantial y echó en él la sal, diciendo:
— Así dice el Señor: He purificado estas aguas y no volverán a causar muerte ni esterilidad.
22 Y las aguas quedaron purificadas hasta el presente, conforme al oráculo pronunciado por Eliseo.
23 Eliseo marchó de allí a Betel y cuando iba subiendo por el camino, salieron de la ciudad unos chiquillos, que empezaron a burlarse de él, gritando:
— ¡Sube, calvo! ¡Sube, calvo!
24 Él se volvió y, cuando los vio, los maldijo en el nombre del Señor. Entonces salieron del bosque dos osos que despedazaron a cuarenta y dos chiquillos. 25 Eliseo marchó de allí al monte Carmelo y desde allí volvió a Samaría.

Eliseo sucede a Elías
2 Aconteció que cuando quiso Jehová alzar a Elías en un torbellino al cielo, Elías venía con Eliseo de Gilgal. 2 Y dijo Elías a Eliseo: Quédate ahora aquí, porque Jehová me ha enviado a Bet-el. Y Eliseo dijo: Vive Jehová, y vive tu alma, que no te dejaré. Descendieron, pues, a Bet-el. 3 Y saliendo a Eliseo los hijos de los profetas que estaban en Bet-el, le dijeron: ¿Sabes que Jehová te quitará hoy a tu señor de sobre ti? Y él dijo: Sí, yo lo sé; callad.
4 Y Elías le volvió a decir: Eliseo, quédate aquí ahora, porque Jehová me ha enviado a Jericó. Y él dijo: Vive Jehová, y vive tu alma, que no te dejaré. Vinieron, pues, a Jericó. 5 Y se acercaron a Eliseo los hijos de los profetas que estaban en Jericó, y le dijeron: ¿Sabes que Jehová te quitará hoy a tu señor de sobre ti? Él respondió: Sí, yo lo sé; callad.
6 Y Elías le dijo: Te ruego que te quedes aquí, porque Jehová me ha enviado al Jordán. Y él dijo: Vive Jehová, y vive tu alma, que no te dejaré. Fueron, pues, ambos. 7 Y vinieron cincuenta varones de los hijos de los profetas, y se pararon delante a lo lejos; y ellos dos se pararon junto al Jordán. 8 Tomando entonces Elías su manto, lo dobló, y golpeó las aguas, las cuales se apartaron a uno y a otro lado, y pasaron ambos por lo seco.
9 Cuando habían pasado, Elías dijo a Eliseo: Pide lo que quieras que haga por ti, antes que yo sea quitado de ti. Y dijo Eliseo: Te ruego que una doble porción(A) de tu espíritu sea sobre mí. 10 Él le dijo: Cosa difícil has pedido. Si me vieres cuando fuere quitado de ti, te será hecho así; mas si no, no.
11 Y aconteció que yendo ellos y hablando, he aquí un carro de fuego con caballos de fuego apartó a los dos; y Elías subió al cielo en un torbellino. 12 Viéndolo Eliseo, clamaba: ¡Padre mío, padre mío, carro de Israel y su gente de a caballo!(B) Y nunca más le vio; y tomando sus vestidos, los rompió en dos partes. 13 Alzó luego el manto de Elías que se le había caído, y volvió, y se paró a la orilla del Jordán. 14 Y tomando el manto de Elías que se le había caído, golpeó las aguas, y dijo: ¿Dónde está Jehová, el Dios de Elías? Y así que hubo golpeado del mismo modo las aguas, se apartaron a uno y a otro lado, y pasó Eliseo.
15 Viéndole los hijos de los profetas que estaban en Jericó al otro lado, dijeron: El espíritu de Elías reposó sobre Eliseo. Y vinieron a recibirle, y se postraron delante de él. 16 Y dijeron: He aquí hay con tus siervos cincuenta varones fuertes; vayan ahora y busquen a tu señor; quizá lo ha levantado el Espíritu de Jehová, y lo ha echado en algún monte o en algún valle. Y él les dijo: No enviéis. 17 Mas ellos le importunaron, hasta que avergonzándose dijo: Enviad. Entonces ellos enviaron cincuenta hombres, los cuales lo buscaron tres días, mas no lo hallaron. 18 Y cuando volvieron a Eliseo, que se había quedado en Jericó, él les dijo: ¿No os dije yo que no fueseis?
19 Y los hombres de la ciudad dijeron a Eliseo: He aquí, el lugar en donde está colocada esta ciudad es bueno, como mi señor ve; mas las aguas son malas, y la tierra es estéril. 20 Entonces él dijo: Traedme una vasija nueva, y poned en ella sal. Y se la trajeron. 21 Y saliendo él a los manantiales de las aguas, echó dentro la sal, y dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová: Yo sané estas aguas, y no habrá más en ellas muerte ni enfermedad. 22 Y fueron sanas las aguas hasta hoy, conforme a la palabra que habló Eliseo.
23 Después subió de allí a Bet-el; y subiendo por el camino, salieron unos muchachos de la ciudad, y se burlaban de él, diciendo: ¡Calvo, sube! ¡calvo, sube! 24 Y mirando él atrás, los vio, y los maldijo en el nombre de Jehová. Y salieron dos osos del monte, y despedazaron de ellos a cuarenta y dos muchachos. 25 De allí fue al monte Carmelo, y de allí volvió a Samaria.

Elías es llevado al cielo
2 Cuando se acercaba la hora en que el Señor se llevaría a Elías al cielo en un torbellino, Elías y Eliseo salieron de Guilgal. 2 Entonces Elías dijo a Eliseo:
—Quédate aquí, pues el Señor me ha enviado a Betel.
Pero Eliseo respondió:
—Tan cierto como el Señor y tú viven, te aseguro que no te dejaré solo.
Así que fueron juntos a Betel. 3 Allí los miembros de la comunidad de profetas de Betel salieron a recibirlos y preguntaron a Eliseo:
—¿Sabes que hoy el Señor va a quitarte a tu maestro?
—Lo sé muy bien; ¡cállense!
4 Elías, por su parte, volvió a decirle:
—Quédate aquí, Eliseo, pues el Señor me ha enviado a Jericó.
Pero Eliseo repitió:
—Tan cierto como que el Señor y tú viven, te juro que no te dejaré solo.
Así que fueron juntos a Jericó. 5 También allí los miembros de la comunidad de profetas de la ciudad se acercaron a Eliseo y preguntaron:
—¿Sabes que hoy el Señor va a quitarte a tu maestro?
—Lo sé muy bien; ¡cállense!
6 Una vez más Elías dijo:
—Quédate aquí, pues el Señor me ha enviado al Jordán.
Pero Eliseo insistió:
—Tan cierto como que el Señor y tú viven, te juro que no te dejaré solo.
Así que los dos siguieron caminando 7 y se detuvieron junto al río Jordán. Cincuenta miembros de la comunidad de profetas fueron también hasta ese lugar, pero se mantuvieron a cierta distancia, frente a ellos. 8 Elías tomó su manto, lo enrolló y golpeó el agua. El río se dividió en dos y ambos lo cruzaron en seco. 9 Al cruzar, Elías preguntó a Eliseo:
—¿Qué quieres que haga por ti antes de que me separen de tu lado?
—Te pido que yo herede una doble porción de tu espíritu[a] —respondió Eliseo.
10 —Has pedido algo difícil —dijo Elías—, pero si logras verme cuando me separen de tu lado, te será concedido; de lo contrario, no.
11 Iban caminando y conversando cuando, de pronto, los separó un carro de fuego con caballos de fuego y Elías subió al cielo en medio de un torbellino. 12 Eliseo, viendo lo que pasaba, se puso a gritar: «¡Padre mío, padre mío, carro y jinete poderoso de Israel!». Pero no volvió a verlo.
Entonces agarró su ropa y la rasgó en dos.
13 Luego recogió el manto que se le había caído a Elías y regresó a la orilla del Jordán, 14 entonces golpeó el agua con el manto y exclamó: «¿Dónde está el Señor, el Dios de Elías?». En cuanto golpeó el agua, el río se partió en dos y Eliseo cruzó.
15 Los profetas de Jericó, al verlo, exclamaron: «¡El espíritu de Elías se ha posado sobre Eliseo!». Entonces fueron a su encuentro y se postraron ante él, rostro en tierra.
16 —Mira —le dijeron—, aquí se encuentran entre nosotros tus servidores, cincuenta hombres muy capaces que pueden ir a buscar a tu maestro. Quizás el Espíritu del Señor lo tomó y lo arrojó en algún monte o en algún valle.
—No —respondió Eliseo—, no los manden.
17 Pero ellos insistieron tanto que él se sintió incómodo[b] y por fin les dijo:
—Está bien, mándenlos.
Así que enviaron a cincuenta hombres, los cuales buscaron a Elías durante tres días, pero no lo encontraron. 18 Cuando regresaron a Jericó, donde se había quedado Eliseo, él les reclamó:
—¿No les advertí que no fueran?
Eliseo purifica el agua
19 Luego, los habitantes de la ciudad dijeron a Eliseo:
—Señor, como usted puede ver, nuestra ciudad está bien ubicada, pero el agua es mala, y por eso la tierra ha quedado estéril.
20 —Tráiganme una vasija nueva y échenle sal —ordenó Eliseo.
Cuando se la entregaron, 21 Eliseo fue al manantial y al arrojar allí la sal, exclamó:
—Así dice el Señor: “¡Yo purifico esta agua para que nunca más cause muerte ni esterilidad!”.
22 A partir de ese momento y hasta el día de hoy, el agua quedó purificada según la palabra de Eliseo.
Eliseo maldice a los burlones
23 De Jericó, Eliseo se dirigió a Betel. Iba subiendo por el camino cuando unos muchachos salieron de la ciudad y empezaron a burlarse de él. «¡Vete, viejo calvo! —le gritaban—. ¡Vete, viejo calvo!». 24 Eliseo se volvió y, clavándoles la vista, los maldijo en el nombre del Señor. Al instante, dos osas salieron del bosque y despedazaron a cuarenta y dos muchachos. 25 De allí, Eliseo se fue al monte Carmelo y luego regresó a Samaria.

Elijah Taken Up to Heaven
2 When the Lord was about to take(A) Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind,(B) Elijah and Elisha(C) were on their way from Gilgal.(D) 2 Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here;(E) the Lord has sent me to Bethel.”
But Elisha said, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.”(F) So they went down to Bethel.
3 The company(G) of the prophets at Bethel came out to Elisha and asked, “Do you know that the Lord is going to take your master from you today?”
“Yes, I know,” Elisha replied, “so be quiet.”
4 Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here, Elisha; the Lord has sent me to Jericho.(H)”
And he replied, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went to Jericho.
5 The company(I) of the prophets at Jericho went up to Elisha and asked him, “Do you know that the Lord is going to take your master from you today?”
“Yes, I know,” he replied, “so be quiet.”
6 Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here;(J) the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.”(K)
And he replied, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.”(L) So the two of them walked on.
7 Fifty men from the company of the prophets went and stood at a distance, facing the place where Elijah and Elisha had stopped at the Jordan. 8 Elijah took his cloak,(M) rolled it up and struck(N) the water with it. The water divided(O) to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry(P) ground.
9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?”
“Let me inherit a double(Q) portion of your spirit,”(R) Elisha replied.
10 “You have asked a difficult thing,” Elijah said, “yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours—otherwise, it will not.”
11 As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire(S) and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven(T) in a whirlwind.(U) 12 Elisha saw this and cried out, “My father! My father! The chariots(V) and horsemen of Israel!” And Elisha saw him no more. Then he took hold of his garment and tore(W) it in two.
13 Elisha then picked up Elijah’s cloak that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. 14 He took the cloak(X) that had fallen from Elijah and struck(Y) the water with it. “Where now is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over.
15 The company(Z) of the prophets from Jericho, who were watching, said, “The spirit(AA) of Elijah is resting on Elisha.” And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him. 16 “Look,” they said, “we your servants have fifty able men. Let them go and look for your master. Perhaps the Spirit(AB) of the Lord has picked him up(AC) and set him down on some mountain or in some valley.”
“No,” Elisha replied, “do not send them.”
17 But they persisted until he was too embarrassed(AD) to refuse. So he said, “Send them.” And they sent fifty men, who searched for three days but did not find him. 18 When they returned to Elisha, who was staying in Jericho, he said to them, “Didn’t I tell you not to go?”
Healing of the Water
19 The people of the city said to Elisha, “Look, our lord, this town is well situated, as you can see, but the water is bad and the land is unproductive.”
20 “Bring me a new bowl,” he said, “and put salt in it.” So they brought it to him.
21 Then he went out to the spring and threw(AE) the salt into it, saying, “This is what the Lord says: ‘I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.’” 22 And the water has remained pure(AF) to this day, according to the word Elisha had spoken.
Elisha Is Jeered
23 From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some boys came out of the town and jeered(AG) at him. “Get out of here, baldy!” they said. “Get out of here, baldy!” 24 He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse(AH) on them in the name(AI) of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys. 25 And he went on to Mount Carmel(AJ) and from there returned to Samaria.

2 When Yahweh was about to take Elijah up by a whirlwind into heaven, Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal. 2 Elijah said to Elisha, “Please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me as far as Bethel.”
Elisha said, “As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.
3 The sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that Yahweh will take away your master from over you today?”
He said, “Yes, I know it. Hold your peace.”
4 Elijah said to him, “Elisha, please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me to Jericho.”
He said, “As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho.
5 The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho came near to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that Yahweh will take away your master from over you today?”
He answered, “Yes, I know it. Hold your peace.”
6 Elijah said to him, “Please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me to the Jordan.”
He said, “As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” Then they both went on. 7 Fifty men of the sons of the prophets went and stood opposite them at a distance; and they both stood by the Jordan. 8 Elijah took his mantle, and rolled it up, and struck the waters; and they were divided here and there, so that they both went over on dry ground. 9 When they had gone over, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.”
Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be on me.”
10 He said, “You have asked a hard thing. If you see me when I am taken from you, it will be so for you; but if not, it will not be so.”
11 As they continued on and talked, behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. 12 Elisha saw it, and he cried, “My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!”
He saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces. 13 He also took up Elijah’s mantle that fell from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan. 14 He took Elijah’s mantle that fell from him, and struck the waters, and said, “Where is Yahweh, the God of Elijah?” When he also had struck the waters, they were divided apart, and Elisha went over.
15 When the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho facing him saw him, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” They came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him. 16 They said to him, “See now, there are with your servants fifty strong men. Please let them go and seek your master. Perhaps Yahweh’s Spirit has taken him up, and put him on some mountain or into some valley.”
He said, “Don’t send them.”
17 When they urged him until he was ashamed, he said, “Send them.”
Therefore they sent fifty men; and they searched for three days, but didn’t find him. 18 They came back to him while he stayed at Jericho; and he said to them, “Didn’t I tell you, ‘Don’t go’?”
19 The men of the city said to Elisha, “Behold, please, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees; but the water is bad, and the land is barren.”
20 He said, “Bring me a new jar, and put salt in it.” Then they brought it to him. 21 He went out to the spring of the waters, and threw salt into it, and said, “Yahweh says, ‘I have healed these waters. There shall not be from there any more death or barren wasteland.’” 22 So the waters were healed to this day, according to Elisha’s word which he spoke.
23 He went up from there to Bethel. As he was going up by the way, some youths came out of the city and mocked him, and said to him, “Go up, you baldy! Go up, you baldy!” 24 He looked behind him and saw them, and cursed them in Yahweh’s name. Then two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of those youths. 25 He went from there to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.
