13 En el año veintitrés de Joás, hijo de Ocozías, rey de Judá, comenzó a reinar Joacaz, hijo de Jehú, sobre Israel en Samaria, y reinó diecisiete años. 2 E hizo lo malo ante los ojos del Señor, y siguió tras los pecados con que Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, hizo pecar a Israel(A); no se apartó de ellos. 3 Y se encendió la ira del Señor contra Israel(B), y los entregó día tras día en mano de Hazael, rey de Aram(C), y en mano de Ben-adad, hijo de Hazael(D). 4 Entonces Joacaz imploró el favor del Señor(E), y el Señor lo oyó; porque Él vio la opresión de Israel(F), de cómo el rey de Aram los oprimía. 5 Y el Señor dio a Israel un libertador[a](G), y escaparon del poder[b] de los arameos; y habitaron los hijos de Israel en sus tiendas como antes. 6 Con todo, no se apartaron de los pecados con que la casa de Jeroboam hizo pecar a Israel(H), sino que anduvieron en ellos[c]; y también la Asera(I) permaneció en pie en Samaria. 7 Pues a Joacaz no le había quedado del ejército[d] más que cincuenta hombres de a caballo, diez carros y diez mil hombres de a pie, porque el rey de Aram los había destruido y los había hecho como polvo de trilla(J). 8 Los demás hechos de Joacaz y todo lo que hizo y su poder, ¿no están escritos en el libro de las Crónicas de los reyes de Israel? 9 Y durmió Joacaz con sus padres y lo sepultaron en Samaria, y su hijo Jeoás[e] reinó en su lugar.

14 Cuando Eliseo se enfermó con la enfermedad[i] de la cual había de morir, Jeoás, rey de Israel, descendió a él y lloró sobre su rostro, y dijo: ¡Padre mío, padre mío, los carros de Israel y sus hombres de a caballo(L)! 15 Y Eliseo le dijo: Toma un arco y flechas. Y él tomó[j] un arco y flechas. 16 Entonces dijo al rey de Israel: Pon tu mano en el arco. Y él puso su mano sobre el arco; entonces Eliseo colocó sus manos sobre las manos del rey. 17 Y dijo: Abre la ventana hacia el oriente, y él la abrió. Entonces Eliseo dijo: Tira. Y él tiró. Y Eliseo dijo: Flecha de victoria del Señor, y flecha de victoria sobre Aram, porque derrotarás[k] a los arameos en Afec(M) hasta exterminarlos. 18 Entonces añadió: Toma las flechas; y él las tomó. Y dijo al rey de Israel: Golpea la tierra; y él la golpeó tres veces y se detuvo. 19 Y el hombre de Dios se enojó con él(N), y dijo: Deberías haber golpeado cinco o seis veces, entonces hubieras herido a Aram hasta exterminarlo. Pero ahora herirás a Aram solo tres veces(O).
20 Y murió Eliseo y lo sepultaron. Y las bandas de los moabitas solían invadir la tierra(P) en la primavera[l] de cada año. 21 Y cuando estaban sepultando a un hombre, he aquí, vieron una banda de merodeadores y arrojaron al hombre en la tumba de Eliseo. Y cuando el hombre cayó[m] y tocó los huesos de Eliseo, revivió, y se puso en pie(Q).
22 Y Hazael, rey de Aram, había oprimido a Israel(R) todos los días de Joacaz. 23 Pero el Señor tuvo piedad de ellos(S), y les tuvo compasión y se volvió a ellos(T) a causa de su pacto con Abraham(U), Isaac y Jacob, y no quiso destruirlos ni echarlos de su presencia hasta hoy. 24 Al morir Hazael, rey de Aram, su hijo Ben-adad reinó en su lugar. 25 Entonces Jeoás, hijo de Joacaz, recobró de nuevo de mano de Ben-adad, hijo de Hazael, las ciudades que este había tomado en guerra de mano de su padre Joacaz. Tres veces Jeoás lo derrotó[n](V) y recobró las ciudades de Israel(W).

Profecía final y muerte de Eliseo
14 Estaba Eliseo enfermo de la enfermedad de que murió. Y descendió a él Joás rey de Israel, y llorando delante de él, dijo: ¡Padre mío, padre mío, carro de Israel y su gente de a caballo!(A) 15 Y le dijo Eliseo: Toma un arco y unas saetas. Tomó él entonces un arco y unas saetas. 16 Luego dijo Eliseo al rey de Israel: Pon tu mano sobre el arco. Y puso él su mano sobre el arco. Entonces puso Eliseo sus manos sobre las manos del rey, 17 y dijo: Abre la ventana que da al oriente. Y cuando él la abrió, dijo Eliseo: Tira. Y tirando él, dijo Eliseo: Saeta de salvación de Jehová, y saeta de salvación contra Siria; porque herirás a los sirios en Afec hasta consumirlos. 18 Y le volvió a decir: Toma las saetas. Y luego que el rey de Israel las hubo tomado, le dijo: Golpea la tierra. Y él la golpeó tres veces, y se detuvo. 19 Entonces el varón de Dios, enojado contra él, le dijo: Al dar cinco o seis golpes, hubieras derrotado a Siria hasta no quedar ninguno; pero ahora solo tres veces derrotarás a Siria.
20 Y murió Eliseo, y lo sepultaron. Entrado el año, vinieron bandas armadas de moabitas a la tierra. 21 Y aconteció que al sepultar unos a un hombre, súbitamente vieron una banda armada, y arrojaron el cadáver en el sepulcro de Eliseo; y cuando llegó a tocar el muerto los huesos de Eliseo, revivió, y se levantó sobre sus pies.
22 Hazael, pues, rey de Siria, afligió a Israel todo el tiempo de Joacaz. 23 Mas Jehová tuvo misericordia de ellos, y se compadeció de ellos y los miró, a causa de su pacto con Abraham, Isaac y Jacob; y no quiso destruirlos ni echarlos de delante de su presencia hasta hoy.
24 Y murió Hazael rey de Siria, y reinó en su lugar Ben-adad su hijo. 25 Y volvió Joás hijo de Joacaz y tomó de mano de Ben-adad hijo de Hazael las ciudades que este había tomado en guerra de mano de Joacaz su padre. Tres veces lo derrotó Joás, y restituyó las ciudades a Israel.

13 ¶ In the year twenty-three of Joash, the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu, began to reign over Israel in Samaria and reigned seventeen years.
2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD and followed the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin; and he did not depart from them.
3 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael, king of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad, the son of Hazael, all their days.
4 But Jehoahaz grieved before the LORD, and the LORD hearkened unto him, for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.
5 (And the LORD gave Israel a saviour so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians, and the sons of Israel dwelt in their tents as beforetime.
6 With all this, they did not depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, but walked in them; and the grove also remained in Samaria.)
7 Neither did he leave of the people to Jehoahaz but fifty horsemen and ten chariots and ten thousand footmen, for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like dust to be tread upon.
8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz and all that he did and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
9 And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria; and Joash, his son, reigned in his stead.
10 ¶ In the year thirty-seven of Joash, king of Judah, Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz, began to reign over Israel in Samaria and reigned sixteen years.
11 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD; he did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin; he walked in them.
12 And the rest of the acts of Joash and all that he did, and his might with which he fought against Amaziah, king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
13 And Joash slept with his fathers, and Jeroboam sat upon his throne; and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.
14 Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness of which he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariots of Israel, and the horsemen thereof!
15 And Elisha said unto him, Take the bow and the arrows. And he took unto him the bow and the arrows.
16 And he said to the king of Israel, Put thy hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it; and Elisha put his hands upon the king’s hands.
17 And he said, Open the window towards the east. And when he opened it Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the LORD’s salvation, and the arrow of salvation from Syria; for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, until thou have consumed them.
18 And he said again, Take the arrows. And he took them. Then he said to the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote three times, and stopped.
19 Then the man of God was angry with him, and said, If thou would have smitten five or six times; then thou would have smitten Syria until thou had consumed it; whereas now thou shalt smite Syria three times.
20 ¶ And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.
21 And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha; and when the dead man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.
22 So Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.
23 But the LORD was merciful unto them, and had compassion on them, and looked upon them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and did not desire to destroy them or to cast them from his presence as yet.
24 And Hazael king of Syria died; and Benhadad his son reigned in his stead.
25 And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz, his father, by war. Three times did Joash smite him, and he recovered the cities of Israel.

Jehoahaz King of Israel
13 In the twenty-third year of Joash son of Ahaziah king of Judah, Jehoahaz son of Jehu became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned seventeen years. 2 He did evil(A) in the eyes of the Lord by following the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit, and he did not turn away from them. 3 So the Lord’s anger(B) burned against Israel, and for a long time he kept them under the power(C) of Hazael king of Aram and Ben-Hadad(D) his son.
4 Then Jehoahaz sought(E) the Lord’s favor, and the Lord listened to him, for he saw(F) how severely the king of Aram was oppressing(G) Israel. 5 The Lord provided a deliverer(H) for Israel, and they escaped from the power of Aram. So the Israelites lived in their own homes as they had before. 6 But they did not turn away from the sins(I) of the house of Jeroboam, which he had caused Israel to commit; they continued in them. Also, the Asherah pole[a](J) remained standing in Samaria.
7 Nothing had been left(K) of the army of Jehoahaz except fifty horsemen, ten chariots and ten thousand foot soldiers, for the king of Aram had destroyed the rest and made them like the dust(L) at threshing time.
8 As for the other events of the reign of Jehoahaz, all he did and his achievements, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel? 9 Jehoahaz rested with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria. And Jehoash[b] his son succeeded him as king.
Jehoash King of Israel
10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash son of Jehoahaz became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned sixteen years. 11 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord and did not turn away from any of the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit; he continued in them.
12 As for the other events of the reign of Jehoash, all he did and his achievements, including his war against Amaziah(M) king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the annals(N) of the kings of Israel? 13 Jehoash rested with his ancestors, and Jeroboam(O) succeeded him on the throne. Jehoash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.
14 Now Elisha had been suffering from the illness from which he died. Jehoash king of Israel went down to see him and wept over him. “My father! My father!” he cried. “The chariots(P) and horsemen of Israel!”
15 Elisha said, “Get a bow and some arrows,”(Q) and he did so. 16 “Take the bow in your hands,” he said to the king of Israel. When he had taken it, Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands.
17 “Open the east window,” he said, and he opened it. “Shoot!”(R) Elisha said, and he shot. “The Lord’s arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Aram!” Elisha declared. “You will completely destroy the Arameans at Aphek.”(S)
18 Then he said, “Take the arrows,” and the king took them. Elisha told him, “Strike the ground.” He struck it three times and stopped. 19 The man of God was angry with him and said, “You should have struck the ground five or six times; then you would have defeated Aram and completely destroyed it. But now you will defeat it only three times.”(T)
20 Elisha died and was buried.
Now Moabite raiders(U) used to enter the country every spring. 21 Once while some Israelites were burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders; so they threw the man’s body into Elisha’s tomb. When the body touched Elisha’s bones, the man came to life(V) and stood up on his feet.
22 Hazael king of Aram oppressed(W) Israel throughout the reign of Jehoahaz. 23 But the Lord was gracious to them and had compassion and showed concern for them because of his covenant(X) with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. To this day he has been unwilling to destroy(Y) them or banish them from his presence.(Z)
24 Hazael king of Aram died, and Ben-Hadad(AA) his son succeeded him as king. 25 Then Jehoash son of Jehoahaz recaptured from Ben-Hadad son of Hazael the towns he had taken in battle from his father Jehoahaz. Three times(AB) Jehoash defeated him, and so he recovered(AC) the Israelite towns.
