Reinado de Jehú
10 Acab tenía setenta hijos en Samaria. Y Jehú escribió cartas y las envió a Samaria, a los príncipes de Jezreel, a los ancianos y a los ayos de los hijos de Acab(A), diciendo: 2 Ahora, cuando esta carta llegue a vosotros(B), como los hijos de vuestro señor están con vosotros, así como también[a] los carros y los caballos y una ciudad fortificada y las armas, 3 escoged al mejor y más capaz[b] de entre los hijos de vuestro señor, y ponedlo en el trono de su padre, y luchad por la casa de vuestro señor. 4 Pero ellos temieron en gran manera y dijeron: He aquí, los dos reyes no pudieron sostenerse(C) delante de él; ¿cómo, pues, podremos sostenernos nosotros? 5 Y el que estaba a cargo de la casa, y el que estaba sobre la ciudad, los ancianos, y los ayos de los hijos, enviaron palabra a Jehú, diciendo: Somos tus siervos, haremos todo lo que nos digas, a nadie proclamaremos rey; haz lo que te parezca(D) bien. 6 Entonces por segunda vez les escribió una carta, diciendo: Si estáis de mi parte y escucháis mi voz, tomad las cabezas de los hombres, de los hijos de vuestro señor, y venid a mí a Jezreel mañana a estas horas. Y los hijos del rey, setenta personas, estaban con los principales de la ciudad, que los criaban. 7 Y sucedió que cuando la carta llegó a ellos, tomaron a los hijos del rey, y los mataron, setenta personas(E), y pusieron sus cabezas en canastas y se las enviaron a Jezreel. 8 Cuando el mensajero vino y le avisó, diciendo: Han traído las cabezas de los hijos del rey, él dijo: Ponedlas en dos montones a la entrada de la puerta hasta la mañana. 9 Y[c] por la mañana, él salió, y estando en pie, dijo a todo el pueblo: Vosotros sois inocentes[d](F); he aquí, yo conspiré contra mi señor y lo maté(G), pero, ¿quién mató[e] a todos estos? 10 Sabed entonces que no caerá a tierra ninguna de las palabras del Señor, las cuales el Señor habló acerca de la casa de Acab(H). El Señor ha hecho lo que habló por medio[f] de su siervo Elías(I). 11 Y Jehú mató[g] a todos los que quedaban de la casa de Acab en Jezreel, y a todos sus grandes, a sus amigos íntimos[h] y a sus sacerdotes, hasta que no le dejó ningún sobreviviente(J).
12 Entonces se levantó y partió, y fue a Samaria. En el camino mientras estaba en Bet-eked[i] de los pastores, 13 Jehú encontró a los parientes[j] de Ocozías, rey de Judá(K), y dijo: ¿Quiénes sois vosotros? Y ellos respondieron: Somos parientes[k] de Ocozías; y hemos descendido para saludar a[l] los hijos del rey y a los hijos de la reina madre. 14 Y él dijo: Tomadlos vivos. Y los tomaron vivos, y los mataron en el foso de Bet-eked, cuarenta y dos hombres; no dejó ninguno de ellos.
15 Cuando partió de allí, encontró a Jonadab, hijo de Recab(L), que venía a su encuentro, lo saludó[m] y le dijo: ¿Es recto tu corazón como mi corazón es con el tuyo[n]? Y Jonadab respondió: Lo es. Y Jehú dijo: Si lo es, dame la mano(M). Y le dio su mano y lo hizo subir al[o] carro. 16 Y él dijo: Ven conmigo y verás mi celo por el Señor(N). Y lo hizo[p] ir con él en su carro. 17 Y cuando llegó a Samaria, mató[q] a todos los que quedaban de Acab(O) en Samaria, hasta que los[r] destruyó, conforme a la palabra que el Señor había hablado a Elías(P).
18 Entonces Jehú reunió a todo el pueblo, y les dijo: Acab sirvió a Baal(Q) un poco, Jehú lo servirá mucho. 19 Llamad ahora a todos los profetas de Baal, a todos sus adoradores y a todos sus sacerdotes; que no falte ninguno, porque tengo un gran sacrificio para Baal(R); todo el que falte no vivirá. Pero Jehú lo hizo con astucia[s] para poder destruir a los adoradores de Baal. 20 Y Jehú dijo: Santificad una asamblea(S) solemne para Baal. Y ellos la convocaron(T). 21 Entonces Jehú envió aviso por[t] todo Israel y vinieron todos los adoradores de Baal, y no quedó ninguno que no viniera. Y cuando entraron en la casa de Baal(U), la casa de Baal se llenó de un extremo al otro. 22 Y dijo al que estaba encargado del[u] vestuario: Saca vestiduras para todos los adoradores de Baal. Y él les sacó vestiduras. 23 Y entró Jehú en la casa de Baal con Jonadab, hijo de Recab; y dijo a los adoradores de Baal: Buscad y ved que no haya aquí con vosotros ninguno de los siervos del Señor, sino solo los adoradores de Baal. 24 Entonces entraron a ofrecer sacrificios y holocaustos. Y Jehú había colocado ochenta hombres afuera, y había dicho: El que permita escapar a uno de los hombres que yo ponga en vuestras manos, dará su vida por la de él[v](V).
25 Y[w] tan pronto como acabó de ofrecer el holocausto, Jehú dijo a la guardia[x] y a los oficiales reales(W): Entrad, matadlos[y]; que ninguno salga(X). Y los mataron[z] a filo de espada; y la guardia[aa] y los oficiales reales los echaron fuera, y llegaron hasta el aposento interior[ab] de la casa de Baal. 26 Y sacaron los pilares sagrados de la casa de Baal(Y), y los quemaron. 27 También derribaron el pilar sagrado de Baal y demolieron la casa de Baal, y la convirtieron en una letrina, hasta hoy(Z). 28 Así Jehú extirpó a Baal de Israel.
29 Sin embargo, en cuanto a los pecados con que Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, hizo pecar a Israel(AA), Jehú no se apartó de estos, o sea, de los becerros de oro que estaban en Betel y en Dan(AB). 30 Y el Señor dijo a Jehú: Porque has hecho bien al hacer lo recto ante mis ojos, y has hecho a la casa de Acab conforme a todo lo que estaba en mi corazón, tus hijos hasta[ac] la cuarta generación se sentarán en el trono de Israel(AC). 31 Pero Jehú no se cuidó de andar en la ley del Señor, Dios de Israel, con todo su corazón(AD), ni se apartó de los pecados con que Jeroboam hizo pecar a Israel(AE).
32 En aquellos días el Señor comenzó a cortar partes de[ad] Israel(AF); y Hazael los derrotó[ae] por todo el territorio de Israel(AG): 33 desde el Jordán hacia el oriente, toda la tierra de Galaad, de Gad, de Rubén y de Manasés; desde Aroer, que está junto al valle del Arnón, y hasta Galaad(AH) y Basán. 34 Y los demás hechos de Jehú, y todo lo que hizo y todo su poder, ¿no están escritos en el libro de las Crónicas de los reyes de Israel? 35 Y durmió Jehú con sus padres, y lo sepultaron en Samaria. Y su hijo Joacaz reinó en su lugar. 36 Y el tiempo[af] que Jehú reinó sobre Israel en Samaria fue de veintiocho años.

Jehú extermina la casa de Acab
10 Tenía Acab en Samaria setenta hijos; y Jehú escribió cartas y las envió a Samaria a los principales de Jezreel, a los ancianos y a los ayos de Acab, diciendo: 2 Inmediatamente que lleguen estas cartas a vosotros los que tenéis a los hijos de vuestro señor, y los que tienen carros y gente de a caballo, la ciudad fortificada, y las armas, 3 escoged al mejor y al más recto de los hijos de vuestro señor, y ponedlo en el trono de su padre, y pelead por la casa de vuestro señor. 4 Pero ellos tuvieron gran temor, y dijeron: He aquí, dos reyes no pudieron resistirle; ¿cómo le resistiremos nosotros? 5 Y el mayordomo, el gobernador de la ciudad, los ancianos y los ayos enviaron a decir a Jehú: Siervos tuyos somos, y haremos todo lo que nos mandes; no elegiremos por rey a ninguno, haz lo que bien te parezca. 6 Él entonces les escribió la segunda vez, diciendo: Si sois míos, y queréis obedecerme, tomad las cabezas de los hijos varones de vuestro señor, y venid a mí mañana a esta hora, a Jezreel. Y los hijos del rey, setenta varones, estaban con los principales de la ciudad, que los criaban. 7 Cuando las cartas llegaron a ellos, tomaron a los hijos del rey, y degollaron a los setenta varones, y pusieron sus cabezas en canastas, y se las enviaron a Jezreel. 8 Y vino un mensajero que le dio las nuevas, diciendo: Han traído las cabezas de los hijos del rey. Y él le dijo: Ponedlas en dos montones a la entrada de la puerta hasta la mañana. 9 Venida la mañana, salió él, y estando en pie dijo a todo el pueblo: Vosotros sois justos; he aquí yo he conspirado contra mi señor, y le he dado muerte; pero ¿quién ha dado muerte a todos estos? 10 Sabed ahora que de la palabra que Jehová habló sobre la casa de Acab, nada caerá en tierra; y que Jehová ha hecho lo que dijo por su siervo Elías. 11 Mató entonces Jehú a todos los que habían quedado de la casa de Acab en Jezreel,(A) a todos sus príncipes, a todos sus familiares, y a sus sacerdotes, hasta que no quedó ninguno.

Y después que los tomaron vivos, los degollaron junto al pozo de la casa de esquileo, cuarenta y dos varones, sin dejar ninguno de ellos.
15 Yéndose luego de allí, se encontró con Jonadab hijo de Recab; y después que lo hubo saludado, le dijo: ¿Es recto tu corazón, como el mío es recto con el tuyo? Y Jonadab dijo: Lo es. Pues que lo es, dame la mano. Y él le dio la mano. Luego lo hizo subir consigo en el carro, 16 y le dijo: Ven conmigo, y verás mi celo por Jehová. Lo pusieron, pues, en su carro. 17 Y luego que Jehú hubo llegado a Samaria, mató a todos los que habían quedado de Acab en Samaria, hasta exterminarlos, conforme a la palabra de Jehová, que había hablado por Elías.
Jehú extermina el culto de Baal
18 Después reunió Jehú a todo el pueblo, y les dijo: Acab sirvió poco a Baal, mas Jehú lo servirá mucho. 19 Llamadme, pues, luego a todos los profetas de Baal, a todos sus siervos y a todos sus sacerdotes; que no falte uno, porque tengo un gran sacrificio para Baal; cualquiera que faltare no vivirá. Esto hacía Jehú con astucia, para exterminar a los que honraban a Baal. 20 Y dijo Jehú: Santificad un día solemne a Baal. Y ellos convocaron. 21 Y envió Jehú por todo Israel, y vinieron todos los siervos de Baal, de tal manera que no hubo ninguno que no viniese. Y entraron en el templo de Baal, y el templo de Baal se llenó de extremo a extremo. 22 Entonces dijo al que tenía el cargo de las vestiduras: Saca vestiduras para todos los siervos de Baal. Y él les sacó vestiduras. 23 Y entró Jehú con Jonadab hijo de Recab en el templo de Baal, y dijo a los siervos de Baal: Mirad y ved que no haya aquí entre vosotros alguno de los siervos de Jehová, sino solo los siervos de Baal.
24 Y cuando ellos entraron para hacer sacrificios y holocaustos, Jehú puso fuera a ochenta hombres, y les dijo: Cualquiera que dejare vivo a alguno de aquellos hombres que yo he puesto en vuestras manos, su vida será por la del otro. 25 Y después que acabaron ellos de hacer el holocausto, Jehú dijo a los de su guardia y a los capitanes: Entrad, y matadlos; que no escape ninguno. Y los mataron a espada, y los dejaron tendidos los de la guardia y los capitanes. Y fueron hasta el lugar santo del templo de Baal, 26 y sacaron las estatuas del templo de Baal, y las quemaron. 27 Y quebraron la estatua de Baal, y derribaron el templo de Baal, y lo convirtieron en letrinas hasta hoy.
28 Así exterminó Jehú a Baal de Israel. 29 Con todo eso, Jehú no se apartó de los pecados de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, que hizo pecar a Israel; y dejó en pie los becerros de oro que estaban en Bet-el y en Dan.(B) 30 Y Jehová dijo a Jehú: Por cuanto has hecho bien ejecutando lo recto delante de mis ojos, e hiciste a la casa de Acab conforme a todo lo que estaba en mi corazón, tus hijos se sentarán sobre el trono de Israel hasta la cuarta generación. 31 Mas Jehú no cuidó de andar en la ley de Jehová Dios de Israel con todo su corazón, ni se apartó de los pecados de Jeroboam, el que había hecho pecar a Israel.

10 And Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. And Jehu wrote letters, and sent to Samaria, unto the rulers of Jezreel, to the elders, and to them that brought up Ahab's children, saying,
2 Now as soon as this letter cometh to you, seeing your master's sons are with you, and there are with you chariots and horses, a fenced city also, and armour;
3 Look even out the best and meetest of your master's sons, and set him on his father's throne, and fight for your master's house.
4 But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, Behold, two kings stood not before him: how then shall we stand?
5 And he that was over the house, and he that was over the city, the elders also, and the bringers up of the children, sent to Jehu, saying, We are thy servants, and will do all that thou shalt bid us; we will not make any king: do thou that which is good in thine eyes.
6 Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, If ye be mine, and if ye will hearken unto my voice, take ye the heads of the men your master's sons, and come to me to Jezreel by to morrow this time. Now the king's sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, which brought them up.
7 And it came to pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the king's sons, and slew seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent him them to Jezreel.
8 And there came a messenger, and told him, saying, They have brought the heads of the king's sons. And he said, Lay ye them in two heaps at the entering in of the gate until the morning.
9 And it came to pass in the morning, that he went out, and stood, and said to all the people, Ye be righteous: behold, I conspired against my master, and slew him: but who slew all these?
10 Know now that there shall fall unto the earth nothing of the word of the Lord, which the Lord spake concerning the house of Ahab: for the Lord hath done that which he spake by his servant Elijah.
11 So Jehu slew all that remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men, and his kinsfolks, and his priests, until he left him none remaining.
12 And he arose and departed, and came to Samaria. And as he was at the shearing house in the way,
13 Jehu met with the brethren of Ahaziah king of Judah, and said, Who are ye? And they answered, We are the brethren of Ahaziah; and we go down to salute the children of the king and the children of the queen.
14 And he said, Take them alive. And they took them alive, and slew them at the pit of the shearing house, even two and forty men; neither left he any of them.
15 And when he was departed thence, he lighted on Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him: and he saluted him, and said to him, Is thine heart right, as my heart is with thy heart? And Jehonadab answered, It is. If it be, give me thine hand. And he gave him his hand; and he took him up to him into the chariot.
16 And he said, Come with me, and see my zeal for the Lord. So they made him ride in his chariot.
17 And when he came to Samaria, he slew all that remained unto Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the saying of the Lord, which he spake to Elijah.
18 And Jehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu shall serve him much.
19 Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice to do to Baal; whosoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But Jehu did it in subtilty, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal.
20 And Jehu said, Proclaim a solemn assembly for Baal. And they proclaimed it.
21 And Jehu sent through all Israel: and all the worshippers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was full from one end to another.
22 And he said unto him that was over the vestry, Bring forth vestments for all the worshippers of Baal. And he brought them forth vestments.
23 And Jehu went, and Jehonadab the son of Rechab, into the house of Baal, and said unto the worshippers of Baal, Search, and look that there be here with you none of the servants of the Lord, but the worshippers of Baal only.
24 And when they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings, Jehu appointed fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escape, he that letteth him go, his life shall be for the life of him.
25 And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, and slay them; let none come forth. And they smote them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of Baal.
26 And they brought forth the images out of the house of Baal, and burned them.
27 And they brake down the image of Baal, and brake down the house of Baal, and made it a draught house unto this day.
28 Thus Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.
29 Howbeit from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from after them, to wit, the golden calves that were in Bethel, and that were in Dan.
30 And the Lord said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.
31 But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin.
32 In those days the Lord began to cut Israel short: and Hazael smote them in all the coasts of Israel;
33 From Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan.
34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
35 And Jehu slept with his fathers: and they buried him in Samaria. And Jehoahaz his son reigned in his stead.
36 And the time that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty and eight years.

Ahab’s Seventy Sons Killed
10 Now Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. And Jehu wrote and sent letters to Samaria, to the rulers of [a]Jezreel, to the elders, and to [b]those who reared Ahab’s sons, saying:
2 Now as soon as this letter comes to you, since your master’s sons are with you, and you have chariots and horses, a fortified city also, and weapons, 3 choose the [c]best qualified of your master’s sons, set him on his father’s throne, and fight for your master’s house.
4 But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, “Look, (A)two kings could not [d]stand up to him; how then can we stand?” 5 And he who was in charge of the house, and he who was in charge of the city, the elders also, and those who reared the sons, sent to Jehu, saying, “We are your servants, we will do all you tell us; but we will not make anyone king. Do what is good in your sight.” 6 Then he wrote a second letter to them, saying:
If you are for me and will obey my voice, take the heads of the men, your master’s sons, and come to me at Jezreel by this time tomorrow.
Now the king’s sons, seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who were rearing them. 7 So it was, when the letter came to them, that they took the king’s sons and (B)slaughtered seventy persons, put their heads in baskets and sent them to him at Jezreel.
8 Then a messenger came and told him, saying, “They have brought the heads of the king’s sons.”
And he said, “Lay them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate until morning.”
9 So it was, in the morning, that he went out and stood, and said to all the people, “You are righteous. Indeed (C)I conspired against my master and killed him; but who killed all these? 10 Know now that nothing shall (D)fall to the earth of the word of the Lord which the Lord spoke concerning the house of Ahab; for the Lord has done what He spoke (E)by His servant Elijah.” 11 So Jehu killed all who remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men and his close acquaintances and his priests, until he left him none remaining.
Ahaziah’s Forty-two Brothers Killed
12 And he arose and departed and went to Samaria. On the way, at [e]Beth Eked of the Shepherds, 13 (F)Jehu met with the brothers of Ahaziah king of Judah, and said, “Who are you?”
So they answered, “We are the brothers of Ahaziah; we have come down to greet the sons of the king and the sons of the queen mother.”
14 And he said, “Take them alive!” So they took them alive, and (G)killed them at the well of [f]Beth Eked, forty-two men; and he left none of them.
The Rest of Ahab’s Family Killed
15 Now when he departed from there, he [g]met (H)Jehonadab the son of (I)Rechab, coming to meet him; and he greeted him and said to him, “Is your heart right, as my heart is toward your heart?”
And Jehonadab answered, “It is.”
Jehu said, “If it is, (J)give me your hand.” So he gave him his hand, and he took him up to him into the chariot. 16 Then he said, “Come with me, and see my (K)zeal for the Lord.” So they had him ride in his chariot. 17 And when he came to Samaria, (L)he killed all who remained to Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed them, according to the word of the Lord (M)which He spoke to Elijah.
Worshipers of Baal Killed
18 Then Jehu gathered all the people together, and said to them, (N)“Ahab served Baal a little, Jehu will serve him much. 19 Now therefore, call to me all the (O)prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests. Let no one be missing, for I have a great sacrifice for Baal. Whoever is missing shall not live.” But Jehu acted deceptively, with the intent of destroying the worshipers of Baal. 20 And Jehu said, [h]“Proclaim a solemn assembly for Baal.” So they proclaimed it. 21 Then Jehu sent throughout all Israel; and all the worshipers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left who did not come. So they came into the [i]temple of Baal, and the (P)temple of Baal was full from one end to the other. 22 And he said to the one in charge of the wardrobe, “Bring out vestments for all the worshipers of Baal.” So he brought out vestments for them. 23 Then Jehu and Jehonadab the son of Rechab went into the temple of Baal, and said to the worshipers of Baal, “Search and see that no servants of the Lord are here with you, but only the worshipers of Baal.” 24 So they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had appointed for himself eighty men on the outside, and had said, “If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escapes, whoever lets him escape, it shall be (Q)his life for the life of the other.”
25 Now it happened, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, “Go in and kill them; let no one come out!” And they killed them with the edge of the sword; then the guards and the officers threw them out, and went into the [j]inner room of the temple of Baal. 26 And they brought the (R)sacred pillars out of the temple of Baal and burned them. 27 Then they broke down the sacred pillar of Baal, and tore down the [k]temple of Baal and (S)made it a refuse dump to this day. 28 Thus Jehu destroyed Baal from Israel.
29 However Jehu did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin, that is, from (T)the golden calves that were at Bethel and Dan. 30 And the Lord (U)said to Jehu, “Because you have done well in doing what is right in My sight, and have done to the house of Ahab all that was in My heart, (V)your sons shall sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.” 31 But Jehu [l]took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart; for he did not depart from (W)the sins of Jeroboam, who had made Israel sin.
Death of Jehu
32 In those days the Lord began to cut off parts of Israel; and (X)Hazael conquered them in all the territory of Israel 33 from the Jordan eastward: all the land of Gilead—Gad, Reuben, and Manasseh—from (Y)Aroer, which is by the River Arnon, including (Z)Gilead and Bashan.
34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 35 So Jehu [m]rested with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. Then (AA)Jehoahaz his son reigned in his place. 36 And the period that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty-eight years.
