Jeú é consagrado rei de Israel
9 O profeta Eliseu chamou a um dos discípulos dos profetas e disse:
—Fique preparado, pegue esta jarra na sua mão e vá a Ramote-Gileade. 2 Quando chegar ali, procure por Jeú, o filho de Josafá e neto de Ninsi. Afaste-o dos seus irmãos e leve-o para um quarto. 3 Pegue a jarra de azeite, derrame-o sobre a cabeça e diga a ele: “Assim diz o SENHOR: Consagro você para ser o novo rei de Israel”. Depois corra depressa e escape. Não se detenha por nenhum motivo.
4 Então este jovem profeta foi a Ramote-Gileade. 5 Quando chegou o jovem, viu que todos os capitães do exército estavam sentados e disse:
—Capitão, tenho uma mensagem para você.
Jeú perguntou:
—Para qual de nós é a mensagem?
O jovem disse:
—Para você, senhor.
6 Jeú se levantou e entrou na casa. Então o jovem profeta derramou o azeite na cabeça de Jeú e disse:
—O SENHOR Deus de Israel diz: “Eu o consagro como o novo rei de Israel, o povo do SENHOR. 7 Você terá que destruir a família do seu rei Acabe e assim castigarei a Jezabel pela morte dos meus servos os profetas e a de todos os servos do SENHOR que foram assassinados. 8 Assim toda a família de Acabe morrerá. Não ficará em Israel nenhum filho da família de Acabe, seja escravo ou livre. 9 A família de Acabe terminará como a família de Jeroboão filho de Nebate e como a família de Baasa filho de Aías. 10 Os cães comerão a Jezabel na região de Jezreel, e ninguém a sepultará”.
E o jovem profeta abriu a porta e saiu correndo.
Os servos proclamam Jeú como rei
11 Jeú regressou aos oficiais do rei. Um deles perguntou a Jeú:
—Está tudo bem? Para que se lhe aproximou esse louco?
Jeú respondeu aos oficiais:
—Já o conhecem e sabem das locuras que diz.
12 Os oficiais disseram:
—Não! Diga-nos a verdade. O que lhe disse?
Jeú contou aos oficiais o que o jovem profeta tinha lhe falado. Jeú disse:
—Me disse assim e assim, e que o SENHOR diz: “Eu o tenho consagrado para ser o novo rei de Israel”.
13 Então cada oficial tirou o manto e o pôs nos degraus perante Jeú. Tocaram a trombeta e proclamaram:
—Viva o rei Jeú!
14 Portanto Jeú, filho de Josafá e neto de Ninsi, conspirou contra Jorão.
Naquele tempo Jorão e os israelitas estavam defendendo Ramote-Gileade contra o ataque de Hazael, rei da Síria. 15 O rei Jorão tinha lutado contra Hazael, rei da Síria. Mas os sírios o feriram, e o rei tinha ido a Jezreel para curar as feridas. Então Jeú disse aos oficiais:
—Se concordam com que eu seja o novo rei, então não permitam que ninguém escape da cidade para contar as notícias em Jezreel.
16 Jorão estava descansando em Jezreel, portanto Jeú subiu ao seu carro e foi até Jezreel. Acazias, rei de Judá, também tinha ido a Jezreel para ver a Jorão. 17 Um guarda estava em pé na torre de Jezreel. Quando ele viu ao grupo de Jeú se aproximando, avisou:
—Vêm muita gente!
Então Jeorão disse:
—Mandem ao seu encontro um mensageiro a cavalo para saber se vêm em paz.
18 Portanto o mensageiro foi ao encontro de Jeú e disse:
—O rei Jeorão lhe pergunta: “Vem em paz?”
Jeú lhe disse:
—A você não lhe interessa se venho em paz. Venha e me siga.
O guarda avisou a Jorão:
—O mensageiro saiu ao encontro do grupo, mas não regressou.
19 Então Jorão mandou um segundo mensageiro a cavalo. Se aproximou ao grupo de Jeú e lhes disse:
—O rei Jorão diz: “Paz”.[a]
Jeú respondeu:
—A você não lhe interessa se venho em paz. Venha e me siga.
20 O guarda avisou a Jorão:
—O segundo mensageiro não tem voltado. Há um homem guiando um carro como louco! Deve ser Jeú, filho de Ninsi.
21 Jorão disse:
—Me tragam o carro!
Portanto os servos trouxeram o carro de Jorão. Tanto Jorão, rei de Israel, como Acazias, rei de Judá, subiram aos seus carros e saíram ao encontro de Jeú. Eles se encontraram com Jeú na propriedade de Nabote, de Jezreel.
22 Jorão viu Jeú e lhe perguntou:
—Você vem em paz, Jeú?
Jeú respondeu:
—Não há paz enquanto a sua mãe Jezabel continuar praticando prostituição e bruxaria.
23 Jorão deu meia volta para escapar e disse a Acazias:
—Traição, Acazias!
24 Mas Jeú pegou seu arco e disparou a Jorão nas costas, penetrando seu coração. Jorão caiu morto no seu carro. 25 Jeú disse a Bidcar, o oficial ajudante que guiava seu carro:
—Leve o corpo de Jorão e jogue-o na vinha de Nabote de Jezreel. Lembre que quando você e eu cavalgávamos com seu pai Acabe, o SENHOR disse que isso aconteceria. 26 O SENHOR disse: “Ontem vi o sangue de Nabote e dos seus filhos, e assim castigarei a Acabe neste campo”. Portanto leve o corpo de Jorão e jogue-o no campo, assim como disse o SENHOR.
27 Quando Acazias, rei de Judá, viu tudo isso, tentou escapar pela casa do jardim, mas Jeú o perseguiu, dizendo:
—Matem também a Acazias!
Feriram a Acazias enquanto este fugia no seu carro no caminho para Gur, perto de Ibleã. Ele conseguiu chegar a Megido, mas ali morreu. 28 Os servos de Acazias levaram seu corpo no carro até Jerusalém e o sepultaram na tumba com os seus antepassados na Cidade de Davi.
29 Acazias havia começado a reinar em Judá no décimo primeiro ano do reinado de Jorão filho de Acabe em Israel.
Morte de Jezabel
30 Jeú se aproximou de Jezreel, e Jezabel ficou sabendo das notícias. Ela maquiou os seus olhos, arrumou seu cabelo e olhou pela janela. 31 Quando Jeú entrou na cidade, Jezabel disse:
—Olá, Zinri[b]. Assim como ele, você matou a seu senhor.
32 Jeú olhou para a janela e disse:
—Quem está do meu lado? Quem?
Então apareceram dois ou três oficiais, 33 e Jeú lhes disse:
—Joguem a Jezabel!
Então os oficiais lançaram a Jezabel pela janela. O sangue de Jezabel salpicou as paredes e os cavalos pisaram o seu corpo. 34 Então Jeú entrou na casa para comer e beber, e disse:
—Agora embora essa mulher seja amaldiçoada, encarreguem-se para que seja sepultada, porque afinal de contas era filha de um rei.
35 Quando os homens foram sepultar Jezabel, não encontraram seu cadáver. Só encontraram o crânio, os pés e as palmas das mãos. 36 Contaram isso a Jeú, quem lhes disse:
—O SENHOR falou ao seu servo Elias o tesbita: “Os cães comerão o corpo de Jezabel em Jezreel. 37 Seu corpo será como um campo onde se guarda esterco em Jezreel e ninguém o poderá reconhecer”.

Jeú é ungido para ser rei de Israel
9 Enquanto isso, o profeta Eliseu chamou um dos jovens profetas e disse:
— Apronte-se e vá até Ramote-Gileade. Leve este jarro de azeite 2 e, quando chegar lá, procure Jeú, filho de Josafá e neto de Ninsi. Leve-o para outra sala, longe dos seus companheiros. 3 Aí derrame azeite na cabeça dele e diga: “O Senhor Deus anuncia que o está ungindo para ser rei de Israel.” Depois saia de lá o mais depressa que puder.
4 Então o jovem profeta foi até Ramote-Gileade 5 e lá encontrou reunidos os oficiais do exército. Ele disse:
— Eu trouxe uma mensagem para o senhor.
Jeú perguntou:
— Com qual de nós você está falando?
— Com o senhor mesmo! — respondeu ele.
6 Então os dois foram para uma sala, e o jovem profeta derramou azeite na cabeça de Jeú e disse:
— O Senhor, o Deus de Israel, anuncia isto: “Eu estou ungindo você para ser o rei do meu povo de Israel. 7 Você deve matar o seu chefe, o rei Jorão, filho de Acabe, para que assim eu castigue Jezabel por haver assassinado os meus profetas e os meus outros servos. 8 Toda a família e todos os descendentes de Acabe devem morrer. Eu vou acabar com todos os homens da família dele, tanto os jovens como os velhos. 9 Vou tratar a família dele como tratei as famílias do rei Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, e do rei Baasa, filho de Aías. 10 Jezabel não será sepultada; o seu corpo será comido pelos cachorros perto da cidade de Jezreel.”
Depois de dizer isso, o jovem profeta saiu da sala e fugiu.
11 Jeú voltou para o lugar onde estavam os seus companheiros, e eles perguntaram:
— Tudo bem? O que aquele louco queria com você?
— Vocês sabem muito bem o que ele queria! — respondeu Jeú.
12 — Não sabemos, não! — disseram eles. — Conte o que ele disse.
Jeú contou:
— Ele me disse que o Senhor Deus anuncia isto: “Eu estou ungindo você, Jeú, para ser o rei de Israel.”
13 No mesmo instante, eles estenderam as suas capas sobre os degraus para Jeú passar, tocaram a corneta e gritaram:
— Jeú é o rei!
Jeú mata Jorão
14-15 Então Jeú fez uma revolta contra o rei Jorão. Jorão estava em Jezreel tratando dos ferimentos que havia recebido em Ramote-Gileade, na batalha contra o rei Hazael, da Síria. Por isso, Jeú disse aos seus colegas oficiais:
— Se vocês estão do meu lado, não deixem que ninguém saia escondido de Ramote-Gileade para ir avisar os moradores de Jezreel.
16 Então subiu no seu carro de guerra e saiu para Jezreel. Jorão ainda não tinha sarado, e o rei Acazias, de Judá, se encontrava ali fazendo-lhe uma visita.
17 Um guarda que estava na torre de vigia de Jezreel viu Jeú e os seus soldados chegando e gritou:
— Vejo alguns homens chegando a cavalo!
Aí Jorão disse:
— Mande um homem a cavalo para descobrir se são amigos ou inimigos.
18 O mensageiro foi encontrar-se com Jeú e disse:
— O rei quer saber se o senhor vem como amigo.
— Isso não é da sua conta! — respondeu Jeú. E mandou:
— Passe para trás de mim.
O guarda que estava na torre de vigia contou que o mensageiro havia se encontrado com o grupo, porém não estava voltando. 19 Outro mensageiro foi mandado e fez a mesma pergunta a Jeú. E novamente ele respondeu: “Isso não é da sua conta! Passe para trás de mim.”
20 Novamente o guarda contou que o mensageiro havia chegado até o grupo, porém não estava voltando. E disse também:
— O chefe do grupo está guiando o seu carro de guerra como um louco, exatamente como Jeú faz!
21 — Aprontem o meu carro de guerra! — ordenou o rei Jorão.
O carro foi preparado, e então ele e o rei Acazias saíram, cada um no seu carro, para ir ao encontro de Jeú. Eles se encontraram com ele no campo que havia sido de Nabote. Aí Jorão perguntou:
22 — Você veio como amigo?
Jeú respondeu:
— Como podemos ser amigos quando ainda continuam as feitiçarias e a adoração de ídolos que Jezabel, a sua mãe, começou?
23 Então Jorão virou o seu carro e fugiu, gritando para Acazias:
— É uma traição, Acazias!
24 Mas Jeú puxou a corda do seu arco com toda a força e atirou uma flecha, que feriu Jorão nas costas. A flecha atravessou o coração, e ele caiu morto no seu carro de guerra. 25 Aí Jeú disse a Bidcar, o seu ajudante:
— Pegue o corpo dele e jogue no campo que era de Nabote. Lembre que, quando nós dois estávamos juntos andando a cavalo atrás de Acabe, pai de Jorão, o Senhor Deus disse estas palavras contra Acabe: 26 “Ontem eu vi o assassinato de Nabote e dos seus filhos. E prometo que castigarei você aqui, neste mesmo campo.”
E Jeú ordenou ao seu ajudante:
— Pegue o corpo de Jorão e jogue no campo que era de Nabote, para que assim seja cumprida a promessa de Deus, o Senhor.
A morte de Acazias
27 O rei Acazias, de Judá, viu o que tinha acontecido e fugiu no seu carro na direção da cidade de Bete-Hagã. Mas Jeú o perseguiu e disse aos seus soldados:
— Matem Acazias também!
E eles o feriram quando ele ia no seu carro pela estrada que sobe para Gur, perto da cidade de Ibleão. Mas Acazias conseguiu fugir até a cidade de Megido, onde morreu. 28 Os seus oficiais levaram o corpo de volta para Jerusalém e o sepultaram nos túmulos dos reis, na Cidade de Davi.
29 Acazias havia começado a reinar em Judá no ano onze do reinado de Jorão, filho de Acabe, em Israel.
Jezabel é morta
30 Jeú chegou a Jezreel, e Jezabel ficou sabendo disso. Então pintou os olhos, penteou os cabelos e ficou numa janela do palácio, olhando para a rua. 31 Quando Jeú entrou pelo portão do palácio, ela gritou:
— Olá, Zinri, assassino do seu senhor!
32 Jeú olhou para cima e gritou:
— Quem está do meu lado?
Dois ou três oficiais do palácio olharam para ele de uma janela, 33 e Jeú lhes disse:
— Joguem essa mulher daí!
Eles a jogaram, e o sangue dela respingou a parede e os cavalos. Jeú passou por cima dela com os cavalos e o carro 34 e entrou no palácio. E, depois que comeu e bebeu, disse:
— Peguem aquela maldita e a sepultem. Afinal de contas, ela é filha de um rei.
35 Mas os homens que saíram para sepultá-la só encontraram a caveira e os ossos das mãos e pés. 36 Então eles voltaram, contaram a Jeú, e este disse:
— Foi isto o que o Senhor Deus disse que ia acontecer quando falou por meio do seu servo Elias, da cidade de Tisbé: “Os cachorros comerão o corpo de Jezabel perto da cidade de Jezreel. 37 Os seus restos serão espalhados ali como esterco, e assim ninguém poderá dizer: ‘Esta era Jezabel.’ ”

Jehu Anointed King of Israel
9 The prophet Elisha summoned a man from the company(A) of the prophets and said to him, “Tuck your cloak into your belt,(B) take this flask of olive oil(C) with you and go to Ramoth Gilead.(D) 2 When you get there, look for Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi. Go to him, get him away from his companions and take him into an inner room. 3 Then take the flask and pour the oil(E) on his head and declare, ‘This is what the Lord says: I anoint you king over Israel.’ Then open the door and run; don’t delay!”
4 So the young prophet went to Ramoth Gilead. 5 When he arrived, he found the army officers sitting together. “I have a message for you, commander,” he said.
“For which of us?” asked Jehu.
“For you, commander,” he replied.
6 Jehu got up and went into the house. Then the prophet poured the oil(F) on Jehu’s head and declared, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anoint you king over the Lord’s people Israel. 7 You are to destroy the house of Ahab your master, and I will avenge(G) the blood of my servants(H) the prophets and the blood of all the Lord’s servants shed by Jezebel.(I) 8 The whole house(J) of Ahab will perish. I will cut off from Ahab every last male(K) in Israel—slave or free.[a] 9 I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam(L) son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha(M) son of Ahijah. 10 As for Jezebel, dogs(N) will devour her on the plot of ground at Jezreel, and no one will bury her.’” Then he opened the door and ran.
11 When Jehu went out to his fellow officers, one of them asked him, “Is everything all right? Why did this maniac(O) come to you?”
“You know the man and the sort of things he says,” Jehu replied.
12 “That’s not true!” they said. “Tell us.”
Jehu said, “Here is what he told me: ‘This is what the Lord says: I anoint you king over Israel.’”
13 They quickly took their cloaks and spread(P) them under him on the bare steps. Then they blew the trumpet(Q) and shouted, “Jehu is king!”
Jehu Kills Joram and Ahaziah(R)
14 So Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi, conspired against Joram. (Now Joram and all Israel had been defending Ramoth Gilead(S) against Hazael king of Aram, 15 but King Joram[b] had returned to Jezreel to recover(T) from the wounds the Arameans had inflicted on him in the battle with Hazael king of Aram.) Jehu said, “If you desire to make me king, don’t let anyone slip out of the city to go and tell the news in Jezreel.” 16 Then he got into his chariot and rode to Jezreel, because Joram was resting there and Ahaziah(U) king of Judah had gone down to see him.
17 When the lookout(V) standing on the tower in Jezreel saw Jehu’s troops approaching, he called out, “I see some troops coming.”
“Get a horseman,” Joram ordered. “Send him to meet them and ask, ‘Do you come in peace?(W)’”
18 The horseman rode off to meet Jehu and said, “This is what the king says: ‘Do you come in peace?’”
“What do you have to do with peace?” Jehu replied. “Fall in behind me.”
The lookout reported, “The messenger has reached them, but he isn’t coming back.”
19 So the king sent out a second horseman. When he came to them he said, “This is what the king says: ‘Do you come in peace?’”
Jehu replied, “What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me.”
20 The lookout reported, “He has reached them, but he isn’t coming back either. The driving is like(X) that of Jehu son of Nimshi—he drives like a maniac.”
21 “Hitch up my chariot,” Joram ordered. And when it was hitched up, Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah rode out, each in his own chariot, to meet Jehu. They met him at the plot of ground that had belonged to Naboth(Y) the Jezreelite. 22 When Joram saw Jehu he asked, “Have you come in peace, Jehu?”
“How can there be peace,” Jehu replied, “as long as all the idolatry and witchcraft of your mother Jezebel(Z) abound?”
23 Joram turned about and fled, calling out to Ahaziah, “Treachery,(AA) Ahaziah!”
24 Then Jehu drew his bow(AB) and shot Joram between the shoulders. The arrow pierced his heart and he slumped down in his chariot. 25 Jehu said to Bidkar, his chariot officer, “Pick him up and throw him on the field that belonged to Naboth the Jezreelite. Remember how you and I were riding together in chariots behind Ahab his father when the Lord spoke this prophecy(AC) against him: 26 ‘Yesterday I saw the blood of Naboth(AD) and the blood of his sons, declares the Lord, and I will surely make you pay for it on this plot of ground, declares the Lord.’[c] Now then, pick him up and throw him on that plot, in accordance with the word of the Lord.”(AE)
27 When Ahaziah king of Judah saw what had happened, he fled up the road to Beth Haggan.[d] Jehu chased him, shouting, “Kill him too!” They wounded him in his chariot on the way up to Gur near Ibleam,(AF) but he escaped to Megiddo(AG) and died there. 28 His servants took him by chariot(AH) to Jerusalem and buried him with his ancestors in his tomb in the City of David. 29 (In the eleventh(AI) year of Joram son of Ahab, Ahaziah had become king of Judah.)
Jezebel Killed
30 Then Jehu went to Jezreel. When Jezebel heard about it, she put on eye makeup,(AJ) arranged her hair and looked out of a window. 31 As Jehu entered the gate, she asked, “Have you come in peace, you Zimri,(AK) you murderer of your master?”[e]
32 He looked up at the window and called out, “Who is on my side? Who?” Two or three eunuchs looked down at him. 33 “Throw her down!” Jehu said. So they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered the wall and the horses as they trampled her underfoot.(AL)
34 Jehu went in and ate and drank. “Take care of that cursed woman,” he said, “and bury her, for she was a king’s daughter.”(AM) 35 But when they went out to bury her, they found nothing except her skull, her feet and her hands. 36 They went back and told Jehu, who said, “This is the word of the Lord that he spoke through his servant Elijah the Tishbite: On the plot of ground at Jezreel dogs(AN) will devour Jezebel’s flesh.[f](AO) 37 Jezebel’s body will be like dung(AP) on the ground in the plot at Jezreel, so that no one will be able to say, ‘This is Jezebel.’”

9 Profeten Elisa kallade till sig en av profetlärjungarna och sade till honom: »Omgjorda dina länder och tag denna oljeflaska med dig, och gå till Ramot i Gilead.
2 Och när du har kommit dit, så sök upp Jehu, son till Josafat, son till Nimsi, och gå in och bed honom stå upp, där han sitter bland sina bröder, och för honom in i den innersta kammaren.
3 Tag så oljeflaskan och gjut olja på hans huvud och säg: 'Så säger HERREN: Jag har smort dig till konung över Israel.' Öppna sedan dörren och fly, utan att dröja.»
4 Så gick då den unge mannen, profetens tjänare, åstad till Ramot i Gilead.
5 Och när han kom dit, fick han se härens hövitsmän sitta där. Då sade han: »Jag har ett ärende till dig, hövitsman.» Jehu frågade: »Till vem av oss alla här?» Han svarade: »Till dig själv, hövitsman.»
6 Då stod han upp och gick in i huset; och han göt oljan på hans huvud och sade till honom: »Så säger HERREN Israels Gud: Jag har smort dig till konung över HERRENS folk, över Israel.
7 Och du skall förgöra Ahabs, din herres, hus; ty jag vill på Isebel hämnas mina tjänare profeterna blod, ja, alla HERRENS tjänares blod.
8 Och Ahabs hela hus skall förgås jag skall utrota allt mankön av Ahab hus, både små och stora i Israel.
9 Och jag skall göra med Ahab hus såsom jag gjorde med Jerobeams, Nebats sons, hus, och såsom jag gjorde med Baesas, Ahias sons, hus.
10 Och hundarna skola äta upp Isebel på Jisreels åkerfält, och ingen skall begrava henne.» Därefter öppnade han dörren och flydde.
11 När sedan Jehu åter kom ut till sin herres tjänare, frågade man honom: »Allt står väl rätt till? Varför kom denne vanvetting till dig?» Han svarade dem: »I kännen ju den mannen och hans tal.»
12 Men de sade: »Du vill bedraga oss; säg oss sanningen.» Då sade han: »Så och så talade han till mig och sade: 'Så säger HERREN: Jag har smort dig till konung över Israel.'»
13 Strax tog då var och en av dem sin mantel och lade den under honom på själva trappan; och de stötte i basun och ropade: »Jehu har blivit konung.»
14 Och Jehu, son till Josafat, son till Nimsi, anstiftade nu en sammansvärjning mot Joram. (Joram hade då med hela Israel legat vid Ramot i Gilead för att försvara det mot Hasael, konungen i Aram;
15 men själv hade konung Joram vänt tillbaka, för att i Jisreel låta hela sig från de sår som araméerna hade tillfogat honom under hans strid mot Hasael, konungen i Aram.) Och Jehu sade: »Om I så viljen, så låten ingen slippa ut ur staden, som kan gå åstad och berätta detta i Jisreel.»
16 Och Jehu steg upp i sin vagn och for till Jisreel, ty Joram låg sjuk där; och Ahasja, Juda konung, hade farit ditned för att besöka Joram.
17 När nu väktaren som stod på tornet i Jisreel fick se Jehus skara, då han kom, sade han: »Jag ser en skara.» Då bjöd Joram att man skulle taga en ryttare och sända honom dem till mötes och låta honom fråga om allt stode rätt till.
18 Ryttaren red honom då till mötes och sade: »Konungen låter fråga 'Allt står väl rätt till?'» Då svarade Jehu: »Vad kommer den saken dig vid? Vänd, och följ efter mig.» Och väktaren berättade och sade: »Den utskickade har hunnit fram till dem, men han kommer icke tillbaka.»
19 Då sände han en annan ryttare. när denne hade hunnit fram till dem, sade han: »Konungen låter fråga: 'Allt står väl rätt till?'» Jehu svarade: »Vad kommer den saken dig vid? Vänd, och följ efter mig.»
20 Väktaren berättade åter och sade: »Han har hunnit fram till dem men han kommer icke tillbaka. På deras sätt att fara fram ser det ut som vore det Jehu, Nimsis son, ty han far fram såsom en vanvetting.»
21 Då sade Joram: »Spänn för.» Och man spände för hans vagn. Och Joram, Israels konung, for nu ut med Ahasja, Juda konung, var och en i sin vagn; de foro ut för att möta Jehu. Och de träffade tillsammans med honom på jisreeliten Nabots åkerstycke.
22 När Joram nu fick se Jehu, sade han: »Allt står väl rätt till, Jehu?» Denne svarade: »Huru skulle det kunna stå rätt till, så länge som du tål din moder Isebels avgudiska väsen och hennes många trolldomskonster?»
23 Då svängde Joram om vagnen och flydde, i det han ropade till Ahasja: »Förräderi, Ahasja!»
24 Men Jehu hade fattat bågen i sin hand och sköt Joram i ryggen, att pilen gick ut genom hjärtat, och han sjönk ned i sin vagn.
25 Därefter sade han till sin livkämpe Bidkar: »Tag honom och kasta ut honom på jisreeliten Nabots åkerstycke; kom ihåg huru HERREN, när jag och du bredvid varandra redo bakom hans fader Ahab, om denne uttalade den utsagan:
26 'Sannerligen, så visst som jag i går såg Nabots och hans söners blod, säger HERREN, skall jag just på detta åkerstycke vedergälla dig, säger HERREN.' Tag därför honom nu och kasta ut honom här på åkerstycket, i enlighet med HERRENS ord.»
27 När Ahasja, Juda konung, såg detta, flydde han åt Trädgårdshuset till. Men Jehu jagade efter honom och ropade: »Skjuten ned också honom i vagnen.» Så skedde ock på Gurhöjden vid Jibleam; men han flydde vidare till Megiddo och dog där.
28 Sedan förde hans tjänare honom i vagnen till Jerusalem; och man begrov honom i hans grav hos hans fäder, i Davids stad.
29 Ahasja hade blivit konung över Juda i Jorams, Ahabs sons, elfte regeringsår.
30 Så kom nu Jehu till Jisreel. När Isebel fick höra detta, sminkade hon sig kring ögonen och smyckade sitt huvud och såg ut genom fönstret.
31 Och när Jehu kom in genom porten, ropade hon: »Allt står väl rätt till, du, Simri, som har dräpt din herre?»
32 Han lyfte sitt ansikte upp mot fönstret och sade: »Vem håller med mig? Vem?» Då sågo två eller tre hovmän ut, ned på honom.
33 Han sade: »Störten ned henne.» Och de störtade ned henne, så att hennes blod stänkte på väggen och på hästarna; och han körde över henne.
34 Därefter gick han in och åt och drack. Sedan sade han: »Tagen vara på henne, den förbannade, och begraven henne, ty hon är dock en konungadotter.»
35 Men när de då gingo åstad för att begrava henne, funno de av henne intet annat än huvudskålen, fötterna och händerna.
36 och de vände tillbaka och berättade detta för honom. Då sade han: »Detta är vad HERREN talade genom sin tjänare tisbiten Elia, i det han sade: 'På Jisreels åkerfält skola hundarna äta upp Isebels kött;
37 och Isebels döda kropp skall ligga såsom gödsel på marken på Jisreels åkerfält, så att ingen skall kunna säga: Detta är Isebel.'»
