Jeú é ungido rei de Israel e mata a Jorão e a Jezabel
9 Então, o profeta Eliseu chamou um dos filhos dos profetas e lhe disse: Cinge os teus lombos, e toma esta almotolia de azeite na tua mão, e vai-te a Ramote-Gileade. 2 E, chegando lá, vê onde está Jeú, filho de Josafá, filho de Ninsi; e entra, e faze que ele se levante do meio de seus irmãos, e leva-o à câmara interior. 3 E toma a almotolia de azeite, e derrama-o sobre a sua cabeça, e dize: Assim diz o Senhor: Ungi-te rei sobre Israel. Então, abre a porta, e foge, e não te detenhas.
4 Foi, pois, o rapaz, o jovem profeta, a Ramote-Gileade. 5 E, entrando ele, eis que os capitães do exército estavam assentados ali; e disse: Capitão, tenho uma palavra que te dizer. E disse Jeú. A qual de todos nós? E disse: A ti, capitão! 6 Então, se levantou, e entrou na casa, e derramou o azeite sobre a sua cabeça, e lhe disse: Assim diz o Senhor, Deus de Israel: Ungi-te rei sobre o povo do Senhor, sobre Israel. 7 E ferirás a casa de Acabe, teu senhor, para que eu vingue o sangue de meus servos, os profetas, e o sangue de todos os servos do Senhor da mão de Jezabel. 8 E toda a casa de Acabe perecerá; e destruirei de Acabe todo varão, tanto o encerrado como o livre em Israel. 9 Porque à casa de Acabe hei de fazer como à casa de Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, e como à casa de Baasa, filho de Aías. 10 E os cães comerão a Jezabel no pedaço de campo de Jezreel; não haverá quem a enterre. Então, abriu a porta e fugiu.
11 E, saindo Jeú aos servos de seu senhor, disseram-lhe: Vai tudo bem? Por que veio a ti este louco? E ele lhes disse: Bem conheceis o homem e o seu falar. 12 Mas eles disseram: É mentira; agora, faze-no-lo saber. E disse: Assim e assim me falou, dizendo: Assim diz o Senhor: Ungi-te rei sobre Israel. 13 Então, se apressaram, e tomou cada um a sua veste e a pôs debaixo dele, no mais alto degrau; e tocaram a buzina e disseram: Jeú reina.
14 Assim, Jeú, filho de Josafá, filho de Ninsi, conspirou contra Jorão. Tinha, porém, Jorão cercado a Ramote-Gileade, ele e todo o Israel, por causa de Hazael, rei da Síria. 15 Porém o rei Jorão voltou para se curar em Jezreel das feridas que os siros lhe fizeram, quando pelejou contra Hazael, rei da Síria. E disse Jeú: Se é da vossa vontade, ninguém saia da cidade, nem escape, para ir anunciar isso em Jezreel. 16 Então, Jeú subiu a um carro e foi-se a Jezreel, porque Jorão estava deitado ali; e também Acazias, rei de Judá, descera para ver a Jorão.
17 E o atalaia estava na torre de Jezreel, e viu a tropa de Jeú, que vinha, e disse: Vejo uma tropa. Então, disse Jorão: Toma um cavaleiro e envia-lho ao encontro; e diga: Há paz? 18 E o cavaleiro lhe foi ao encontro e disse: Assim diz o rei: Há paz? E disse Jeú: Que tens tu que fazer com a paz? Passa para trás de mim. E o atalaia o fez saber, dizendo: Chegou a eles o mensageiro, porém não volta. 19 Então, enviou outro cavaleiro; e, chegando este a eles, disse: Assim diz o rei: Há paz? E disse Jeú: Que tens tu que fazer com a paz? Passa para trás de mim. 20 E o atalaia o fez saber, dizendo: Também este chegou a eles, porém não volta; e o andar parece como o andar de Jeú, filho de Ninsi, porque anda furiosamente.
21 Então, disse Jorão: Aparelha o carro. E aparelharam o seu carro. E saiu Jorão, rei de Israel, e Acazias, rei de Judá, cada um em seu carro, e saíram ao encontro de Jeú, e o acharam no pedaço de campo de Nabote, o jezreelita. 22 E sucedeu que, vendo Jorão a Jeú, disse: Há paz, Jeú? E disse ele: Que paz, enquanto as prostituições da tua mãe Jezabel e as suas feitiçarias são tantas? 23 Então, Jorão voltou as mãos, e fugiu, e disse a Acazias: Traição há, Acazias. 24 Mas Jeú entesou o seu arco com toda a força e feriu a Jorão entre os braços, e a flecha lhe saiu pelo coração; e caiu no seu carro. 25 Então, Jeú disse a Bidcar, seu capitão: Toma-o, lança-o no pedaço do campo de Nabote, o jezreelita; pois, lembra-te de que, indo eu e tu juntos a cavalo após Acabe, seu pai, o Senhor pôs sobre ele esta carga, dizendo: 26 Por certo que, se eu não visse ontem à tarde o sangue de Nabote e o sangue de seus filhos, diz o Senhor, também não to pagaria neste pedaço de campo, diz o Senhor. Agora, pois, toma-o e lança-o neste pedaço de campo, conforme a palavra do Senhor. 27 O que vendo Acazias, rei de Judá, fugiu pelo caminho da casa do jardim, porém Jeú seguiu após ele e disse: Feri também a este no carro à subida de Gur, que está junto a Ibleão. E fugiu para Megido e morreu ali. 28 E seus servos o levaram num carro a Jerusalém e o sepultaram na sua sepultura, junto a seus pais, na Cidade de Davi. 29 E, no ano undécimo de Jorão, filho de Acabe, começou Acazias a reinar sobre Judá.
30 E Jeú veio a Jezreel, o que ouvindo Jezabel, se pintou em volta dos olhos, e enfeitou a sua cabeça, e olhou pela janela. 31 E, entrando Jeú pelas portas, disse ela: Teve paz Zinri, que matou a seu senhor? 32 E levantou ele o rosto para a janela e disse: Quem é comigo? Quem? E dois ou três eunucos olharam para ele. 33 Então, disse ele: Lançai-a de alto abaixo. E lançaram-na de alto abaixo; e foram salpicados com o seu sangue a parede e os cavalos, e Jeú a atropelou. 34 Entrando ele, pois, e havendo comido e bebido, disse: Olhai por aquela maldita e sepultai-a, porque é filha de rei. 35 E foram para a sepultar; porém não acharam dela senão somente a caveira, e os pés, e as palmas das mãos. 36 Então, voltaram e lho fizeram saber; e ele disse: Esta é a palavra do Senhor, a qual falou pelo ministério de Elias, o tisbita, seu servo, dizendo: No pedaço do campo de Jezreel, os cães comerão a carne de Jezabel. 37 E o cadáver de Jezabel será como esterco sobre o campo, no pedaço de Jezreel, que se não possa dizer: Esta é Jezabel.

Jeú é Consagrado Rei de Israel
9 Enquanto isso o profeta Eliseu chamou um dos discípulos dos profetas e lhe disse: “Ponha a capa por dentro do cinto, pegue este frasco de óleo e vá a Ramote-Gileade. 2 Quando lá chegar, procure Jeú, filho de Josafá e neto de Ninsi. Dirija-se a ele e leve-o para uma sala, longe dos seus companheiros. 3 Depois pegue o frasco, derrame o óleo sobre a cabeça dele e declare: ‘Assim diz o Senhor: Eu o estou ungindo rei sobre Israel’. Em seguida abra a porta e fuja sem demora!”
4 Então o jovem profeta foi a Ramote-Gileade. 5 Ao chegar, encontrou os comandantes do exército reunidos e disse: “Trago uma mensagem para ti, comandante”.
“Para qual de nós?”, perguntou Jeú.
Ele respondeu: “Para ti, comandante”.
6 Jeú levantou-se e entrou na casa. Então o jovem profeta derramou o óleo na cabeça de Jeú e declarou-lhe: “Assim diz o Senhor, o Deus de Israel: ‘Eu o estou ungindo rei de Israel, o povo do Senhor. 7 Você dará fim à família de Acabe, seu senhor, e assim eu vingarei o sangue de meus servos, os profetas, e o sangue de todos os servos do Senhor, derramado por Jezabel. 8 Toda a família de Acabe perecerá. Eliminarei todos os de sexo masculino[a] de sua família em Israel, seja escravo seja livre. 9 Tratarei a família de Acabe como tratei a de Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, e a de Baasa, filho de Aías. 10 E Jezabel será devorada por cães num terreno em Jezreel, e ninguém a sepultará’ ”. Então ele abriu a porta e saiu correndo.
11 Quando Jeú voltou para junto dos outros oficiais do rei, um deles lhe perguntou: “Está tudo bem? O que esse louco queria com você?”
Jeú respondeu: “Vocês conhecem essa gente e sabem as coisas que eles dizem”.
12 Mas insistiram: “Não nos engane! Conte-nos o que ele disse”.
Então Jeú contou: “Ele me disse o seguinte: ‘Assim diz o Senhor: Eu o estou ungindo rei sobre Israel’ ”.
13 Imediatamente eles pegaram os seus mantos e os estenderam sobre os degraus diante dele. Em seguida tocaram a trombeta e gritaram: “Jeú é rei!”
A Morte de Jorão e de Acazias
14 Então Jeú, filho de Josafá e neto de Ninsi, começou uma conspiração contra o rei Jorão, na época em que este defendeu, com todo o Israel, Ramote-Gileade contra Hazael, rei da Síria. 15 O rei Jorão tinha voltado a Jezreel para recuperar-se dos ferimentos sofridos na batalha contra Hazael, rei da Síria. Jeú propôs: “Se vocês me apóiam, não deixem ninguém sair escondido da cidade para nos denunciar em Jezreel”. 16 Então ele subiu em seu carro e foi para Jezreel, porque Jorão estava lá se recuperando; e Acazias, rei de Judá, tinha ido visitá-lo.
17 Quando a sentinela que estava na torre de vigia de Jezreel percebeu a tropa de Jeú se aproximando, gritou: “Estou vendo uma tropa!”
Jorão ordenou: “Envie um cavaleiro ao encontro deles para perguntar se eles vêm em paz”.
18 O cavaleiro foi ao encontro de Jeú e disse: “O rei pergunta: ‘Vocês vêm em paz?’ ”
Jeú respondeu: “Não me venha falar em paz. Saia da minha frente”.
A sentinela relatou: “O mensageiro chegou a eles, mas não está voltando”.
19 Então o rei enviou um segundo cavaleiro. Quando chegou a eles disse: “O rei pergunta: ‘Vocês vêm em paz?’ ”
Jeú respondeu: “Não me venha falar em paz. Saia da minha frente”.
20 A sentinela relatou: “Ele chegou a eles, mas também não está voltando”. E acrescentou: “O jeito do chefe da tropa guiar o carro é como o de Jeú, neto de Ninsi; dirige como louco”.
21 Jorão ordenou que preparassem seu carro de guerra. Assim que ficou pronto, Jorão, rei de Israel, e Acazias, rei de Judá, saíram, cada um em seu carro, ao encontro de Jeú. Eles o encontraram na propriedade que havia pertencido a Nabote, de Jezreel. 22 Quando Jorão viu Jeú, perguntou: “Você vem em paz, Jeú?”
Jeú respondeu: “Como pode haver paz, enquanto continuam toda a idolatria e as feitiçarias de sua mãe Jezabel?”
23 Jorão deu meia-volta e fugiu, gritando para Acazias: “Traição, Acazias!”
24 Então Jeú disparou seu arco com toda a força e atingiu Jorão nas costas. A flecha atravessou-lhe o coração e ele caiu morto. 25 Jeú disse a Bidcar, seu oficial: “Pegue o cadáver e jogue-o nesta propriedade que pertencia a Nabote, de Jezreel. Lembre-se da advertência que o Senhor proferiu contra Acabe, pai dele, quando juntos acompanhávamos sua comitiva. Ele disse: 26 ‘Ontem, vi o sangue de Nabote e o sangue dos seus filhos, declara o Senhor, e com certeza farei você pagar por isso nesta mesma propriedade, declara o Senhor’. Agora, então, pegue o cadáver e jogue-o nesta propriedade, conforme a palavra do Senhor”.
27 Vendo isso, Acazias, rei de Judá, fugiu na direção de Bete-Hagã. Mas Jeú o perseguiu, gritando: “Matem-no também!” Eles o atingiram em seu carro de guerra na subida para Gur, perto de Ibleã, mas ele conseguiu refugiar-se em Megido, onde morreu. 28 Seus oficiais o levaram a Jerusalém e o sepultaram com seus antepassados em seu túmulo, na Cidade de Davi. 29 Acazias havia se tornado rei de Judá no décimo primeiro ano de Jorão, filho de Acabe.
A Morte de Jezabel
30 Em seguida Jeú entrou em Jezreel. Ao saber disso, Jezabel pintou os olhos, arrumou o cabelo e ficou olhando de uma janela do palácio. 31 Quando Jeú passou pelo portão, ela gritou: “Como vai, Zinri, assassino do seu senhor?”
32 Ele ergueu os olhos para a janela e gritou: “Quem de vocês está do meu lado?” Dois ou três oficiais olharam para ele. 33 Então Jeú ordenou: “Joguem essa mulher para baixo!” Eles a jogaram e o sangue dela espirrou na parede e nos cavalos, e Jeú a atropelou.
34 Jeú entrou, comeu, bebeu e ordenou: “Peguem aquela maldita e sepultem-na; afinal era filha de rei”. 35 Mas, quando foram sepultá-la, só encontraram o crânio, os pés e as mãos. 36 Então voltaram e contaram isso a Jeú, que disse: “Cumpriu-se a palavra do Senhor anunciada por meio do seu servo Elias, o tesbita: Num terreno em Jezreel cães devorarão a carne de Jezabel, 37 os seus restos mortais serão espalhados num terreno em Jezreel, como esterco no campo, de modo que ninguém será capaz de dizer: ‘Esta é Jezabel’ ”.

Jehu Is Chosen King
9 Elisha called a man from the group of the prophets. Elisha said, “Tighten your clothes around you. And take this small bottle of olive oil in your hand. Go to Ramoth in Gilead. 2 When you arrive, find Jehu son of Jehoshaphat. Jehoshaphat is the son of Nimshi. Go in and make Jehu get up from among his brothers. Take him to an inner room. 3 Take the bottle and pour the oil on Jehu’s head. Say, ‘This is what the Lord says: I have appointed you king over Israel.’ Then open the door and run away. Don’t wait!”
4 So the young man, the prophet, went to Ramoth in Gilead. 5 When he arrived, he saw the officers of the army sitting together. He said, “Commander, I have a message for you.”
Jehu asked, “For which one of us?”
The young man said, “For you, commander.”
6 Jehu got up and went into the house. Then the young prophet poured the olive oil on Jehu’s head. He said to Jehu, “This is what the Lord of Israel says: ‘I have appointed you king over the Lord’s people, Israel. 7 You must destroy the family of Ahab your master. I will punish Jezebel for the deaths of my servants the prophets. And I will punish her for all the Lord’s servants who were murdered. 8 So all Ahab’s family will die. I will not let any male child in Ahab’s family live in Israel. It does not matter if he is a slave or a free person. 9 I will make Ahab’s family like the family of Jeroboam son of Nebat. They will be like the family of Baasha son of Ahijah. 10 The dogs will eat Jezebel in the portion of land at Jezreel. And no one will bury her.’”
Then the young prophet opened the door and ran away.
11 Jehu went back to his master’s officers. One of them said to Jehu, “Is everything all right? Why did this crazy man come to you?”
Jehu answered, “You know the man and how he talks.”
12 They answered, “That’s not true! Tell us.”
Jehu said, “He said, ‘This is what the Lord says: I have appointed you to be king over Israel.’”
13 Then the officers hurried. Each man took off his own coat. They put them on the stairs for Jehu. Then they blew the trumpet. They said, “Jehu is king!”
Joram and Ahaziah Are Killed
14 So Jehu son of Jehoshaphat made plans against Joram. (Jehoshaphat was the son of Nimshi.) Now Joram and all Israel had been defending Ramoth in Gilead from Hazael king of Aram. 15 But King Joram had to return to Israel to heal from the injuries the Arameans had given him. He received these injuries when he fought against Hazael king of Aram.
Jehu said, “If you agree with this, don’t let anyone leave the city. They might tell the news in Jezreel.” 16 Then he got into his chariot and set out for Jezreel. Joram was resting there. And Ahaziah king of Judah had gone down to see him.
17 The lookout was standing on the watchtower in Jezreel. He saw Jehu’s troops coming. He said, “I see some soldiers!”
Joram said, “Take a horseman and send him to meet them. Tell him to ask, ‘Do you bring good news?’”
18 So the horseman rode out to meet Jehu. The horseman said, “This is what the king says: ‘Do you bring good news?’”
Jehu said, “That’s none of your business! Come along behind me.”
The lookout reported, “The messenger reached them. But he is not coming back.”
19 So Joram sent out a second horseman. This rider came to Jehu’s group and said, “This is what the king says: ‘Do you bring good news?’”
Jehu answered, “That’s none of your business! Come along behind me.”
20 The lookout reported, “The second man reached them. But he is not coming back. The man in the chariot is driving like Jehu son of Nimshi. He drives as if he were crazy!”
21 Joram said, “Get my chariot ready.” Then the servant got Joram’s chariot ready. Joram and Ahaziah king of Judah went out. Each king went in his own chariot to meet Jehu. And they met him at the property of Naboth the Jezreelite.
22 When Joram saw Jehu, he said, “Do you bring good news, Jehu?”
Jehu answered, “There will never be any good news as long as your mother Jezebel worships idols and uses witchcraft.”
23 Joram turned the horses to run away. He yelled to Ahaziah, “It’s a trick, Ahaziah!”
24 Then Jehu drew his bow and shot Joram between his shoulders. The arrow went through Joram’s heart. And he fell down in his chariot.
25 Jehu ordered Bidkar, his chariot officer, “Pick up Joram’s body. Throw it into the field of Naboth the Jezreelite. Remember when you and I rode together with Joram’s father Ahab. The Lord made this prophecy against him: 26 ‘Yesterday I saw the blood of Naboth and his sons, says the Lord. So I will punish Ahab in his field, says the Lord.’ So take Joram’s body and throw it into the field, as the Lord has said.”
27 When Ahaziah king of Judah saw this, he ran away toward Beth Haggan. Jehu chased him, saying, “Shoot Ahaziah, too!” Ahaziah was wounded in his chariot on the way up to Gur near Ibleam. Ahaziah got as far as Megiddo but died there. 28 His servants carried his body in a chariot to Jerusalem. They buried him with his ancestors in his tomb in Jerusalem. 29 (Ahaziah had become king over Judah in Joram’s eleventh year as king. Joram was the son of Ahab.)
Death of Jezebel
30 When Jehu came to Jezreel, Jezebel heard about it. She put paint on her eyes and fixed her hair. Then she looked out the window. 31 Jehu entered the city gate. And Jezebel said, “Have you come in peace, you Zimri,[a] you who killed your master?”
32 Jehu looked up at the window. He said, “Who is on my side? Who?” Two or three eunuchs looked out from the window at Jehu. 33 Jehu said to them, “Throw her down!” So they threw Jezebel down. And the horses ran over her body. Some of her blood splashed on the wall and on the horses.
34 Jehu went into the house and ate and drank. Then he said, “Now see about this cursed woman. Bury her, because she is a king’s daughter.”
35 The men went to bury Jezebel. But they could not find her body. They could only find the skull, feet and palms of her hands. 36 So they came back and told Jehu. Then Jehu said, “The Lord said this through his servant Elijah the Tishbite: ‘The dogs will eat the body of Jezebel in the portion of land at Jezreel. 37 Her body will be like manure on the field in the land at Jezreel. Then people cannot say that the body is Jezebel.’”

Jehu Anointed King of Israel
9 The prophet Elisha summoned a man from the company(A) of the prophets and said to him, “Tuck your cloak into your belt,(B) take this flask of olive oil(C) with you and go to Ramoth Gilead.(D) 2 When you get there, look for Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi. Go to him, get him away from his companions and take him into an inner room. 3 Then take the flask and pour the oil(E) on his head and declare, ‘This is what the Lord says: I anoint you king over Israel.’ Then open the door and run; don’t delay!”
4 So the young prophet went to Ramoth Gilead. 5 When he arrived, he found the army officers sitting together. “I have a message for you, commander,” he said.
“For which of us?” asked Jehu.
“For you, commander,” he replied.
6 Jehu got up and went into the house. Then the prophet poured the oil(F) on Jehu’s head and declared, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anoint you king over the Lord’s people Israel. 7 You are to destroy the house of Ahab your master, and I will avenge(G) the blood of my servants(H) the prophets and the blood of all the Lord’s servants shed by Jezebel.(I) 8 The whole house(J) of Ahab will perish. I will cut off from Ahab every last male(K) in Israel—slave or free.[a] 9 I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam(L) son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha(M) son of Ahijah. 10 As for Jezebel, dogs(N) will devour her on the plot of ground at Jezreel, and no one will bury her.’” Then he opened the door and ran.
11 When Jehu went out to his fellow officers, one of them asked him, “Is everything all right? Why did this maniac(O) come to you?”
“You know the man and the sort of things he says,” Jehu replied.
12 “That’s not true!” they said. “Tell us.”
Jehu said, “Here is what he told me: ‘This is what the Lord says: I anoint you king over Israel.’”
13 They quickly took their cloaks and spread(P) them under him on the bare steps. Then they blew the trumpet(Q) and shouted, “Jehu is king!”
Jehu Kills Joram and Ahaziah(R)
14 So Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi, conspired against Joram. (Now Joram and all Israel had been defending Ramoth Gilead(S) against Hazael king of Aram, 15 but King Joram[b] had returned to Jezreel to recover(T) from the wounds the Arameans had inflicted on him in the battle with Hazael king of Aram.) Jehu said, “If you desire to make me king, don’t let anyone slip out of the city to go and tell the news in Jezreel.” 16 Then he got into his chariot and rode to Jezreel, because Joram was resting there and Ahaziah(U) king of Judah had gone down to see him.
17 When the lookout(V) standing on the tower in Jezreel saw Jehu’s troops approaching, he called out, “I see some troops coming.”
“Get a horseman,” Joram ordered. “Send him to meet them and ask, ‘Do you come in peace?(W)’”
18 The horseman rode off to meet Jehu and said, “This is what the king says: ‘Do you come in peace?’”
“What do you have to do with peace?” Jehu replied. “Fall in behind me.”
The lookout reported, “The messenger has reached them, but he isn’t coming back.”
19 So the king sent out a second horseman. When he came to them he said, “This is what the king says: ‘Do you come in peace?’”
Jehu replied, “What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me.”
20 The lookout reported, “He has reached them, but he isn’t coming back either. The driving is like(X) that of Jehu son of Nimshi—he drives like a maniac.”
21 “Hitch up my chariot,” Joram ordered. And when it was hitched up, Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah rode out, each in his own chariot, to meet Jehu. They met him at the plot of ground that had belonged to Naboth(Y) the Jezreelite. 22 When Joram saw Jehu he asked, “Have you come in peace, Jehu?”
“How can there be peace,” Jehu replied, “as long as all the idolatry and witchcraft of your mother Jezebel(Z) abound?”
23 Joram turned about and fled, calling out to Ahaziah, “Treachery,(AA) Ahaziah!”
24 Then Jehu drew his bow(AB) and shot Joram between the shoulders. The arrow pierced his heart and he slumped down in his chariot. 25 Jehu said to Bidkar, his chariot officer, “Pick him up and throw him on the field that belonged to Naboth the Jezreelite. Remember how you and I were riding together in chariots behind Ahab his father when the Lord spoke this prophecy(AC) against him: 26 ‘Yesterday I saw the blood of Naboth(AD) and the blood of his sons, declares the Lord, and I will surely make you pay for it on this plot of ground, declares the Lord.’[c] Now then, pick him up and throw him on that plot, in accordance with the word of the Lord.”(AE)
27 When Ahaziah king of Judah saw what had happened, he fled up the road to Beth Haggan.[d] Jehu chased him, shouting, “Kill him too!” They wounded him in his chariot on the way up to Gur near Ibleam,(AF) but he escaped to Megiddo(AG) and died there. 28 His servants took him by chariot(AH) to Jerusalem and buried him with his ancestors in his tomb in the City of David. 29 (In the eleventh(AI) year of Joram son of Ahab, Ahaziah had become king of Judah.)
Jezebel Killed
30 Then Jehu went to Jezreel. When Jezebel heard about it, she put on eye makeup,(AJ) arranged her hair and looked out of a window. 31 As Jehu entered the gate, she asked, “Have you come in peace, you Zimri,(AK) you murderer of your master?”[e]
32 He looked up at the window and called out, “Who is on my side? Who?” Two or three eunuchs looked down at him. 33 “Throw her down!” Jehu said. So they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered the wall and the horses as they trampled her underfoot.(AL)
34 Jehu went in and ate and drank. “Take care of that cursed woman,” he said, “and bury her, for she was a king’s daughter.”(AM) 35 But when they went out to bury her, they found nothing except her skull, her feet and her hands. 36 They went back and told Jehu, who said, “This is the word of the Lord that he spoke through his servant Elijah the Tishbite: On the plot of ground at Jezreel dogs(AN) will devour Jezebel’s flesh.[f](AO) 37 Jezebel’s body will be like dung(AP) on the ground in the plot at Jezreel, so that no one will be able to say, ‘This is Jezebel.’”

9 And Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird up thy loins, and take this box of oil in thine hand, and go to Ramothgilead:
2 And when thou comest thither, look out there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brethren, and carry him to an inner chamber;
3 Then take the box of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, Thus saith the Lord, I have anointed thee king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and tarry not.
4 So the young man, even the young man the prophet, went to Ramothgilead.
5 And when he came, behold, the captains of the host were sitting; and he said, I have an errand to thee, O captain. And Jehu said, Unto which of all us? And he said, To thee, O captain.
6 And he arose, and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I have anointed thee king over the people of the Lord, even over Israel.
7 And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the Lord, at the hand of Jezebel.
8 For the whole house of Ahab shall perish: and I will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel:
9 And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah:
10 And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her. And he opened the door, and fled.
11 Then Jehu came forth to the servants of his lord: and one said unto him, Is all well? wherefore came this mad fellow to thee? And he said unto them, Ye know the man, and his communication.
12 And they said, It is false; tell us now. And he said, Thus and thus spake he to me, saying, Thus saith the Lord, I have anointed thee king over Israel.
13 Then they hasted, and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew with trumpets, saying, Jehu is king.
14 So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. (Now Joram had kept Ramothgilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Syria.
15 But king Joram was returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria.) And Jehu said, If it be your minds, then let none go forth nor escape out of the city to go to tell it in Jezreel.
16 So Jehu rode in a chariot, and went to Jezreel; for Joram lay there. And Ahaziah king of Judah was come down to see Joram.
17 And there stood a watchman on the tower in Jezreel, and he spied the company of Jehu as he came, and said, I see a company. And Joram said, Take an horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, Is it peace?
18 So there went one on horseback to meet him, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu said, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me. And the watchman told, saying, The messenger came to them, but he cometh not again.
19 Then he sent out a second on horseback, which came to them, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu answered, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me.
20 And the watchman told, saying, He came even unto them, and cometh not again: and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he driveth furiously.
21 And Joram said, Make ready. And his chariot was made ready. And Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out against Jehu, and met him in the portion of Naboth the Jezreelite.
22 And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?
23 And Joram turned his hands, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, There is treachery, O Ahaziah.
24 And Jehu drew a bow with his full strength, and smote Jehoram between his arms, and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot.
25 Then said Jehu to Bidkar his captain, Take up, and cast him in the portion of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite: for remember how that, when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, the Lord laid this burden upon him;
26 Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, saith the Lord; and I will requite thee in this plat, saith the Lord. Now therefore take and cast him into the plat of ground, according to the word of the Lord.
27 But when Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house. And Jehu followed after him, and said, Smite him also in the chariot. And they did so at the going up to Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo, and died there.
28 And his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers in the city of David.
29 And in the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab began Ahaziah to reign over Judah.
30 And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a window.
31 And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Had Zimri peace, who slew his master?
32 And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs.
33 And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down: and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trode her under foot.
34 And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go, see now this cursed woman, and bury her: for she is a king's daughter.
35 And they went to bury her: but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands.
36 Wherefore they came again, and told him. And he said, This is the word of the Lord, which he spake by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel:
37 And the carcase of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel; so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel.
