Eliseu aumenta o azeite da viúva
4 E uma mulher das mulheres dos filhos dos profetas, clamou a Eliseu dizendo: Meu marido, teu servo, morreu; e tu sabes que o teu servo temia ao Senhor; e veio o credor a levar-me os meus dois filhos para serem servos. 2 E Eliseu lhe disse: Que te hei de eu fazer? Declara-me que é o que tens em casa. E ela disse: Tua serva não tem nada em casa, senão uma botija de azeite. 3 Então, disse ele: Vai, pede para ti vasos emprestados a todos os teus vizinhos, vasos vazios, não poucos. 4 Então, entra, e fecha a porta sobre ti e sobre teus filhos, e deita o azeite em todos aqueles vasos, e põe à parte o que estiver cheio. 5 Partiu, pois, dele e fechou a porta sobre si e sobre seus filhos; e eles lhe traziam os vasos, e ela os enchia. 6 E sucedeu que, cheios que foram os vasos, disse a seu filho: Traze-me ainda um vaso. Porém ele lhe disse: Não há mais vaso nenhum. Então, o azeite parou. 7 Então, veio ela e o fez saber ao homem de Deus; e disse ele: Vai, vende o azeite e paga a tua dívida; e tu e teus filhos vivei do resto.
A sunamita e o seu filho
8 Sucedeu também um dia que, indo Eliseu a Suném, havia ali uma mulher rica, a qual o reteve a comer pão; e sucedeu que todas as vezes que passava, ali se dirigia a comer pão. 9 E ela disse a seu marido: Eis que tenho observado que este que passa sempre por nós é um santo homem de Deus. 10 Façamos-lhe, pois, um pequeno quarto junto ao muro e ali lhe ponhamos uma cama, e uma mesa, e uma cadeira, e um candeeiro; e há de ser que, vindo ele a nós, para ali se retirará.
11 E sucedeu um dia que veio ali, e retirou-se àquele quarto, e se deitou ali. 12 Então, disse ao seu moço Geazi: Chama esta sunamita. E chamando-a ele, ela se pôs diante dele. 13 Porque lhe dissera: Dize-lhe: Eis que tu nos tens tratado com todo o desvelo; que se há de fazer por ti? Haverá alguma coisa de que se fale por ti ao rei ou ao chefe do exército? E dissera ela: Eu habito no meio do meu povo. 14 Então, disse ele: Que se há de fazer, pois, por ela? E Geazi disse: Ora, ela não tem filho, e seu marido é velho. 15 Pelo que disse ele: Chama-a. E, chamando-a ele, ela se pôs à porta. 16 E ele disse: A este tempo determinado, segundo o tempo da vida, abraçarás um filho. E disse ela: Não, meu senhor, homem de Deus, não mintas à tua serva. 17 E concebeu a mulher e deu à luz um filho, no tal tempo determinado, segundo o tempo da vida que Eliseu lhe dissera.
18 E, crescendo o filho, sucedeu que, um dia, saiu para seu pai, que estava com os segadores. 19 E disse a seu pai: Ai! A minha cabeça! Ai! A minha cabeça! Então, disse a um moço: Leva-o a sua mãe. 20 E ele o tomou e o levou a sua mãe; e esteve sobre os seus joelhos até ao meio-dia e morreu. 21 E subiu ela e o deitou sobre a cama do homem de Deus; e fechou sobre ele a porta e saiu. 22 E chamou a seu marido e disse: Manda-me já um dos moços e uma das jumentas, para que eu corra ao homem de Deus e volte. 23 E disse ele: Por que vais a ele hoje? Não é lua nova nem sábado. E ela disse: Tudo vai bem. 24 Então, albardou a jumenta e disse ao seu moço: Guia, e anda, e não te detenhas no caminhar, senão quando eu to disser. 25 Partiu ela, pois, e veio ao homem de Deus, ao monte Carmelo; e sucedeu que, vendo-a o homem de Deus de longe, disse a Geazi, seu moço: Eis aí a sunamita. 26 Agora, pois, corre-lhe ao encontro e dize-lhe: Vai bem contigo? Vai bem com teu marido? Vai bem com teu filho? E ela disse: Vai bem. 27 Chegando ela, pois, ao homem de Deus, ao monte, pegou nos seus pés; mas chegou Geazi para a retirar; disse porém o homem de Deus: Deixa-a, porque a sua alma nela está triste de amargura, e o Senhor mo encobriu e não mo manifestou. 28 E disse ela: Pedi eu a meu senhor algum filho? Não disse eu: Não me enganes? 29 E ele disse a Geazi: Cinge os teus lombos, e toma o meu bordão na tua mão, e vai; se encontrares alguém, não o saúdes; e, se alguém te saudar, não lhe respondas; e põe o meu bordão sobre o rosto do menino. 30 Porém disse a mãe do menino: Vive o Senhor, e vive a tua alma, que não te hei de deixar. Então, ele se levantou e a seguiu. 31 E Geazi passou adiante deles e pôs o bordão sobre o rosto do menino; porém não havia nele voz nem sentido; e voltou a encontrar-se com ele e lhe trouxe aviso, dizendo: Não despertou o menino.
32 E, chegando Eliseu àquela casa, eis que o menino jazia morto sobre a sua cama. 33 Então, entrou ele, e fechou a porta sobre eles ambos, e orou ao Senhor. 34 E subiu, e deitou-se sobre o menino, e, pondo a sua boca sobre a boca dele, e os seus olhos sobre os olhos dele, e as suas mãos sobre as mãos dele, se estendeu sobre ele; e a carne do menino aqueceu. 35 Depois, voltou, e passeou naquela casa de uma parte para a outra, e tornou a subir, e se estendeu sobre ele; então, o menino espirrou sete vezes e o menino abriu os olhos. 36 Então, chamou a Geazi e disse: Chama essa sunamita. E chamou-a, e veio a ele. E disse ele: Toma o teu filho. 37 E veio ela, e se prostrou a seus pés, e se inclinou à terra; e tomou o seu filho e saiu.
A morte que havia na panela é tirada
38 E voltando Eliseu a Gilgal, havia fome naquela terra; e os filhos dos profetas estavam assentados na sua presença; e disse ao seu moço: Põe a panela grande ao lume e faze um caldo de ervas para os filhos dos profetas. 39 Então, um saiu ao campo a apanhar ervas, e achou uma parra brava, e colheu dela a sua capa cheia de coloquíntidas; e veio e as cortou na panela do caldo; porque as não conheciam. 40 Assim, tiraram de comer para os homens. E sucedeu que, comendo eles daquele caldo, clamaram e disseram: Homem de Deus, há morte na panela. Não puderam comer. 41 Porém ele disse: Trazei, pois, farinha. E deitou-a na panela e disse: Tirai de comer para o povo. Então, não havia mal nenhum na panela.
Vinte pães satisfazem cem homens
42 E um homem veio de Baal-Salisa, e trouxe ao homem de Deus pães das primícias, vinte pães de cevada e espigas verdes na sua palha, e disse: Dá ao povo, para que coma. 43 Porém seu servo disse: Como hei de eu pôr isso diante de cem homens? E disse ele: Dá-o ao povo, para que coma; porque assim diz o Senhor: Comer-se-á, e sobejará. 44 Então, lhos pôs diante, e comeram, e deixaram sobejos, conforme a palavra do Senhor.

O milagre para ajudar uma viúva
4 A esposa de um dos homens do grupo dos profetas se aproximou de Eliseu gritando:
—Meu marido foi um dos seus servos, e agora está morto. Você sabe como honrava ao SENHOR. Mas devia dinheiro a um homem que agora vem levar os meus dois filhos para que sejam os seus escravos!
2 Eliseu respondeu:
—Como posso ajudá-la? Fale o que tem na sua casa?
A mulher disse:
—Não tenho nada, só um vasilha de azeite de oliva.
3 Então Eliseu disse:
—Vá e fale com os seus vizinhos e peça emprestadas todas as vasilhas vazias que tenham. 4 Entre em casa e feche a porta, que estejam só você e os seus filhos dentro. Use a vasilha de azeite e encha cada vasilha vazia, uma atrás da outra.
5 Ela saiu depois de falar com Eliseu, entrou em casa e fechou a porta, somente com ela e os seus dois filhos dentro. Os seus dois filhos levavam as vasilhas para ela as encher. 6 Quando todas as vasilhas já estavam cheias, ela perguntou ao seu filho:
—Não tem mais vasilhas?
Ele lhe disse:
—Não tem mais.
Então o azeite deixou de fluir.
7 Depois contou ao homem de Deus o que aconteceu, e Eliseu disse:
—Vá, venda o azeite e pague sua dívida. Com o que sobrar poderão se sustentar você e os seus filhos.
A mulher de Suném e Eliseu
8 Certo dia Eliseu foi para Suném, onde morava uma mulher importante. Ela insistiu que Eliseu ficasse para comer em sua casa. Assim cada vez que Eliseu passava por aquele lugar se detinha para comer ali.
9 A mulher disse ao seu marido:
—Olhe, você sabe que Eliseu é um homem santo de Deus e que sempre passa por nossa casa. 10 Por favor, façamos para ele um quarto no andar de cima. Coloquemos uma cama no quarto com uma mesinha, uma cadeira e uma lâmpada. Então, quando ele se hospedar na nossa casa, poderá ter seu próprio quarto.
11 Certo dia Eliseu se hospedou naquela casa e entrou no quarto para descansar. 12 Eliseu disse ao seu servo Geazi:
—Chame a esta mulher sunamita.
O servo a chamou e ela veio e o ajudou. 13 Eliseu lhe disse:
—Agora diga a ela: “Olhe, fez o melhor que pode para nos atender. O que podemos fazer por você? Quer que falemos da sua parte ao rei ou ao comandante do exército?”
Ela respondeu:
—Estou contente morando no meio do meu povo.
14 Eliseu disse a Geazi:
—Que podemos fazer por ela?
Ele respondeu:
—Já sei! Ela não tem filhos e o seu marido já é velho.
15 Então Eliseu disse:
—Chame-a de novo.
Então Geazi a chamou e ela aproximou-se para atendê-lo. 16 Eliseu disse:
—Na próxima primavera terá nos braços o seu próprio filho.
A mulher respondeu:
—Não, SENHOR! Que o homem de Deus não minta para mim!
17 Mesmo assim, a mulher ficou grávida e na primavera seguinte deu à luz um filho, assim como Eliseu tinha lhe falado. 18 O menino cresceu e chegou o dia no qual já podia sair para trabalhar na colheita com seu pai. 19 Quando ele estava ajudando o seu pai, ele gritou:
—Ó, minha cabeça! Me dói a cabeça!
O pai disse ao criado:
—Levem-no para a sua mãe.
20 Então o levaram para onde estava a mãe dele e ela o deitou no seu colo e de tarde o menino morreu.
A sunamita vai ver a Eliseu
21 A mulher subiu e fez o menino se deitar na cama do homem de Deus. Fechou a porta e saiu do quarto. 22 Ela chamou ao seu marido e disse:
—Por favor, mande-me um dos servos com um jumento para ir depressa procurar o homem de Deus, e voltar em seguida. 23 O homem respondeu:
—Por que vai procurá-lo hoje se não é festa da Lua Nova nem dia de descanso?
Ela disse:
—Adeus![a]
24 Então selou o jumento e disse ao seu servo:
—Vamos, ande! Não diminua a marcha a não ser que eu fale a você.
25 A mulher foi para o monte Carmelo procurando pelo homem de Deus.
Quando o homem de Deus viu que a sunamita se aproximava, ele disse ao seu servo Geazi:
—Olhe, ali está a sunamita! 26 Corra ao seu encontro! Pergunte: “O que acontece com você? Está bem? Está bem seu marido? Está bem o menino?”
Ela respondeu ao criado:
—Está tudo bem.[b]
27 A sunamita subiu até onde estava o homem de Deus e se segurou nos pés de Eliseu. Geazi se aproximou para a afastar, mas o homem de Deus disse a Geazi:
—Deixe-a em paz! Está desconsolada e o SENHOR não me advertiu, me ocultou esta notícia.
28 Então ela disse:
—Senhor, eu não lhe pedi um filho. E lhe disse: “Não brinque comigo”.
29 Então Eliseu disse a Geazi:
—Prepare-se para a viagem. Pegue o meu cajado e vá já! Se encontrar alguém pelo caminho, não o cumprimente, e se alguém o cumprimentar, não se detenha para responder o cumprimento. Ponha meu cajado no rosto do menino.
30 Mas a mãe do menino disse:
—Jure pelo SENHOR vivo e pela sua vida que não sairei sem você!
Então Eliseu se levantou e a seguiu.
31 Geazi chegou na casa dela antes que Eliseu e a mulher sunamita. Geazi colocou o cajado no rosto do menino, mas o menino não falou nem respondeu nada. Então Geazi voltou a se encontrar com Eliseu e disse:
—O menino não acorda!
32 Eliseu entrou na casa e ali estava o menino, morto, estendido na sua cama. 33 Eliseu entrou no quarto e fechou a porta. Então orou ao SENHOR. 34 Depois Eliseu se aproximou da cama e se deitou sobre o menino. Pôs os seus olhos onde estavam os olhos do menino, a sua boca na boca do menino, as suas mãos sobre as mãos do menino. Ele se deitou sobre o menino até esquentá-lo. 35 Então Eliseu voltou e saiu do quarto. De novo entrou no quarto até que o menino espirrou sete vezes e abriu os olhos.
36 Eliseu chamou a Geazi e lhe disse:
—Chame a sunamita!
Geazi a chamou e ela se aproximou de Eliseu, quem lhe disse:
—Pegue seu menino!
37 Então a mulher sunamita entrou no quarto e lançou-se aos pés de Eliseu, se ajoelhou diante ele. Então ela pegou o seu filho e saiu.
Eliseu e a sopa envenenada
38 Eliseu novamente foi para Gilgal num tempo de grande escassez de alimentos no país. Um grupo de profetas estava sentado diante de Eliseu, o qual disse ao seu servo:
—Coloque uma vasilha grande no fogo e faça sopa para os profetas.
39 Um dos profetas foi ao campo para apanhar umas ervas e encontrou uma planta de abóboras silvestres. Apanhou as abóboras e as colocou na sua ropa. Ele as levou, as cortou e as cozinhou na sopa sem saber o que eram. 40 Serviram aos homens para comerem, mas quando começaram a comer, gritaram:
—Esta sopa está envenenada.
E já não comeram mais.
41 Mas Eliseu disse:
—Tragam farinha!
Eliseu acrescentou a farinha na sopa e disse:
—Deem esta sopa para que as pessoas comam.
E a sopa não lhes fez mal.
Eliseu alimenta alguns profetas
42 Um homem chegou de Baal-Salisa com pão feito da primeira colheita para o homem de Deus. Tinha vinte pães de cevada e trigo inteiro num saco. Então Eliseu disse:
—Deem tudo isso para as pessoas comerem.
43 O servo de Eliseu respondeu:
—O que me disse? Aqui há mais de cem homens. Como alimentarei com esta comida a todos eles?
Mas Eliseu insistiu:
—Dê a comida para as pessoas comerem. O SENHOR diz: “Comerão suficiente e ainda sobrará comida”.
44 O servo de Eliseu pôs a comida a disposição do grupo de profetas. Comeram suficiente e ainda sobrou. Aconteceu assim como o SENHOR disse.

Elisha and the Widow’s Oil(A)
4 A certain woman of the wives of (B)the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming (C)to take my two sons to be his slaves.”
2 So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”
3 Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; (D)do not gather just a few. 4 And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.”
5 So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out. 6 Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.”
And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased. 7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.”
Elisha Raises the Shunammite’s Son(E)
8 Now it happened one day that Elisha went to (F)Shunem, where there was a [a]notable woman, and she [b]persuaded him to eat some food. So it was, as often as he passed by, he would turn in there to eat some food. 9 And she said to her husband, “Look now, I know that this is a holy man of God, who passes by us regularly. 10 Please, let us make [c]a small upper room on the wall; and let us put a bed for him there, and a table and a chair and a lampstand; so it will be, whenever he comes to us, he can turn in there.”
11 And it happened one day that he came there, and he turned in to the upper room and lay down there. 12 Then he said to (G)Gehazi his servant, “Call this Shunammite woman.” When he had called her, she stood before him. 13 And he said to him, “Say now to her, ‘Look, you have been concerned for us with all this care. What can I do for you? Do you want me to speak on your behalf to the king or to the commander of the army?’ ”
She answered, “I dwell among my own people.”
14 So he said, “What then is to be done for her?”
And Gehazi answered, “Actually, she has no son, and her husband is old.”
15 So he said, “Call her.” When he had called her, she stood in the doorway. 16 Then he said, [d]“About this time next year you shall embrace a son.”
And she said, “No, my lord. Man of God, (H)do not lie to your maidservant!”
17 But the woman conceived, and bore a son when the appointed time had come, of which Elisha had told her.
18 And the child grew. Now it happened one day that he went out to his father, to the reapers. 19 And he said to his father, “My head, my head!”
So he said to a servant, “Carry him to his mother.” 20 When he had taken him and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died. 21 And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, shut the door upon him, and went out. 22 Then she called to her husband, and said, “Please send me one of the young men and one of the donkeys, that I may run to the man of God and come back.”
23 So he said, “Why are you going to him today? It is neither the (I)New Moon nor the Sabbath.”
And she said, [e]“It is well.” 24 Then she saddled a donkey, and said to her servant, “Drive, and go forward; do not slacken the pace for me unless I tell you.” 25 And so she departed, and went to the man of God (J)at Mount Carmel.
So it was, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to his servant Gehazi, “Look, the Shunammite woman! 26 Please run now to meet her, and say to her, ‘Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child?’ ”
And she answered, “It is well.” 27 Now when she came to the man of God at the hill, she caught him by the feet, but Gehazi came near to push her away. But the man of God said, “Let her alone; for her soul is in deep distress, and the Lord has hidden it from me, and has not told me.”
28 So she said, “Did I ask a son of my lord? (K)Did I not say, ‘Do not deceive me’?”
29 Then he said to Gehazi, (L)“Get[f] yourself ready, and take my staff in your hand, and be on your way. If you meet anyone, (M)do not greet him; and if anyone greets you, do not answer him; but (N)lay my staff on the face of the child.”
30 And the mother of the child said, (O)“As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not (P)leave you.” So he arose and followed her. 31 Now Gehazi went on ahead of them, and laid the staff on the face of the child; but there was neither voice nor hearing. Therefore he went back to meet him, and told him, saying, “The child has (Q)not awakened.”
32 When Elisha came into the house, there was the child, lying dead on his bed. 33 He (R)went in therefore, shut the door behind the two of them, (S)and prayed to the Lord. 34 And he went up and lay on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands; and (T)he stretched himself out on the child, and the flesh of the child became warm. 35 He returned and walked back and forth in the house, and again went up (U)and stretched himself out on him; then (V)the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes. 36 And he called Gehazi and said, “Call this Shunammite woman.” So he called her. And when she came in to him, he said, “Pick up your son.” 37 So she went in, fell at his feet, and bowed to the ground; then she (W)picked up her son and went out.
Elisha Purifies the Pot of Stew
38 And Elisha returned to (X)Gilgal, and there was a (Y)famine in the land. Now the sons of the prophets were (Z)sitting before him; and he said to his servant, “Put on the large pot, and boil stew for the sons of the prophets.” 39 So one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered from it a lapful of wild gourds, and came and sliced them into the pot of stew, though they did not know what they were. 40 Then they served it to the men to eat. Now it happened, as they were eating the stew, that they cried out and said, “Man of God, there is (AA)death in the pot!” And they could not eat it.
41 So he said, “Then bring some flour.” And (AB)he put it into the pot, and said, “Serve it to the people, that they may eat.” And there was nothing harmful in the pot.
Elisha Feeds One Hundred Men(AC)
42 Then a man came from (AD)Baal Shalisha, (AE)and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley bread, and newly ripened grain in his knapsack. And he said, “Give it to the people, that they may eat.”
43 But his servant said, (AF)“What? Shall I set this before one hundred men?”
He said again, “Give it to the people, that they may eat; for thus says the Lord: (AG)‘They shall eat and have some left over.’ ” 44 So he set it before them; and they ate (AH)and had some left over, according to the word of the Lord.

4 Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the Lord: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.
2 And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
3 Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.
4 And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.
5 So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.
6 And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.
7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.
8 And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread.
9 And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually.
10 Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.
11 And it fell on a day, that he came thither, and he turned into the chamber, and lay there.
12 And he said to Gehazi his servant, Call this Shunammite. And when he had called her, she stood before him.
13 And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people.
14 And he said, What then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, Verily she hath no child, and her husband is old.
15 And he said, Call her. And when he had called her, she stood in the door.
16 And he said, About this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid.
17 And the woman conceived, and bare a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life.
18 And when the child was grown, it fell on a day, that he went out to his father to the reapers.
19 And he said unto his father, My head, my head. And he said to a lad, Carry him to his mother.
20 And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died.
21 And she went up, and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out.
22 And she called unto her husband, and said, Send me, I pray thee, one of the young men, and one of the asses, that I may run to the man of God, and come again.
23 And he said, Wherefore wilt thou go to him to day? it is neither new moon, nor sabbath. And she said, It shall be well.
24 Then she saddled an ass, and said to her servant, Drive, and go forward; slack not thy riding for me, except I bid thee.
25 So she went and came unto the man of God to mount Carmel. And it came to pass, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold, yonder is that Shunammite:
26 Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say unto her, Is it well with thee? is it well with thy husband? is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well:
27 And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is vexed within her: and the Lord hath hid it from me, and hath not told me.
28 Then she said, Did I desire a son of my lord? did I not say, Do not deceive me?
29 Then he said to Gehazi, Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thine hand, and go thy way: if thou meet any man, salute him not; and if any salute thee, answer him not again: and lay my staff upon the face of the child.
30 And the mother of the child said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And he arose, and followed her.
31 And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Wherefore he went again to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not awaked.
32 And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed.
33 He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them twain, and prayed unto the Lord.
34 And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm.
35 Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.
36 And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, Take up thy son.
37 Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up her son, and went out.
38 And Elisha came again to Gilgal: and there was a dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said unto his servant, Set on the great pot, and seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets.
39 And one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered thereof wild gourds his lap full, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage: for they knew them not.
40 So they poured out for the men to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the pottage, that they cried out, and said, O thou man of God, there is death in the pot. And they could not eat thereof.
41 But he said, Then bring meal. And he cast it into the pot; and he said, Pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was no harm in the pot.
42 And there came a man from Baalshalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of corn in the husk thereof. And he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat.
43 And his servitor said, What, should I set this before an hundred men? He said again, Give the people, that they may eat: for thus saith the Lord, They shall eat, and shall leave thereof.
44 So he set it before them, and they did eat, and left thereof, according to the word of the Lord.

The Widow’s Olive Oil
4 The wife of a man from the company(A) of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor(B) is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.”
2 Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?”
“Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”(C)
3 Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. 4 Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.”
5 She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. 6 When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.”
But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing.
7 She went and told the man of God,(D) and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”
The Shunammite’s Son Restored to Life
8 One day Elisha went to Shunem.(E) And a well-to-do woman was there, who urged him to stay for a meal. So whenever he came by, he stopped there to eat. 9 She said to her husband, “I know that this man who often comes our way is a holy man of God. 10 Let’s make a small room on the roof and put in it a bed and a table, a chair and a lamp for him. Then he can stay(F) there whenever he comes to us.”
11 One day when Elisha came, he went up to his room and lay down there. 12 He said to his servant Gehazi, “Call the Shunammite.”(G) So he called her, and she stood before him. 13 Elisha said to him, “Tell her, ‘You have gone to all this trouble for us. Now what can be done for you? Can we speak on your behalf to the king or the commander of the army?’”
She replied, “I have a home among my own people.”
14 “What can be done for her?” Elisha asked.
Gehazi said, “She has no son, and her husband is old.”
15 Then Elisha said, “Call her.” So he called her, and she stood in the doorway. 16 “About this time(H) next year,” Elisha said, “you will hold a son in your arms.”
“No, my lord!” she objected. “Please, man of God, don’t mislead your servant!”
17 But the woman became pregnant, and the next year about that same time she gave birth to a son, just as Elisha had told her.
18 The child grew, and one day he went out to his father, who was with the reapers.(I) 19 He said to his father, “My head! My head!”
His father told a servant, “Carry him to his mother.” 20 After the servant had lifted him up and carried him to his mother, the boy sat on her lap until noon, and then he died. 21 She went up and laid him on the bed(J) of the man of God, then shut the door and went out.
22 She called her husband and said, “Please send me one of the servants and a donkey so I can go to the man of God quickly and return.”
23 “Why go to him today?” he asked. “It’s not the New Moon(K) or the Sabbath.”
“That’s all right,” she said.
24 She saddled the donkey and said to her servant, “Lead on; don’t slow down for me unless I tell you.” 25 So she set out and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel.(L)
When he saw her in the distance, the man of God said to his servant Gehazi, “Look! There’s the Shunammite! 26 Run to meet her and ask her, ‘Are you all right? Is your husband all right? Is your child all right?’”
“Everything is all right,” she said.
27 When she reached the man of God at the mountain, she took hold of his feet. Gehazi came over to push her away, but the man of God said, “Leave her alone! She is in bitter distress,(M) but the Lord has hidden it from me and has not told me why.”
28 “Did I ask you for a son, my lord?” she said. “Didn’t I tell you, ‘Don’t raise my hopes’?”
29 Elisha said to Gehazi, “Tuck your cloak into your belt,(N) take my staff(O) in your hand and run. Don’t greet anyone you meet, and if anyone greets you, do not answer. Lay my staff on the boy’s face.”
30 But the child’s mother said, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So he got up and followed her.
31 Gehazi went on ahead and laid the staff on the boy’s face, but there was no sound or response. So Gehazi went back to meet Elisha and told him, “The boy has not awakened.”
32 When Elisha reached the house, there was the boy lying dead on his couch.(P) 33 He went in, shut the door on the two of them and prayed(Q) to the Lord. 34 Then he got on the bed and lay on the boy, mouth to mouth, eyes to eyes, hands to hands. As he stretched(R) himself out on him, the boy’s body grew warm. 35 Elisha turned away and walked back and forth in the room and then got on the bed and stretched out on him once more. The boy sneezed seven times(S) and opened his eyes.(T)
36 Elisha summoned Gehazi and said, “Call the Shunammite.” And he did. When she came, he said, “Take your son.”(U) 37 She came in, fell at his feet and bowed to the ground. Then she took her son and went out.
Death in the Pot
38 Elisha returned to Gilgal(V) and there was a famine(W) in that region. While the company of the prophets was meeting with him, he said to his servant, “Put on the large pot and cook some stew for these prophets.”
39 One of them went out into the fields to gather herbs and found a wild vine and picked as many of its gourds as his garment could hold. When he returned, he cut them up into the pot of stew, though no one knew what they were. 40 The stew was poured out for the men, but as they began to eat it, they cried out, “Man of God, there is death in the pot!” And they could not eat it.
41 Elisha said, “Get some flour.” He put it into the pot and said, “Serve it to the people to eat.” And there was nothing harmful in the pot.(X)
Feeding of a Hundred
42 A man came from Baal Shalishah,(Y) bringing the man of God twenty loaves(Z) of barley bread(AA) baked from the first ripe grain, along with some heads of new grain. “Give it to the people to eat,” Elisha said.
43 “How can I set this before a hundred men?” his servant asked.
But Elisha answered, “Give it to the people to eat.(AB) For this is what the Lord says: ‘They will eat and have some left over.(AC)’” 44 Then he set it before them, and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the Lord.
