Malattia e guarigione di Ezechia
20 In quei giorni Ezechia si ammalò mortalmente. Il profeta Isaia figlio di Amoz si recò da lui e gli parlò: «Dice il Signore: Dà disposizioni per la tua casa, perché morirai e non guarirai». 2 Ezechia allora voltò la faccia verso la parete e pregò il Signore: 3 «Su, Signore, ricordati che ho camminato davanti a te con fedeltà e con cuore integro e ho compiuto ciò che a te sembra bene». Ed Ezechia fece un gran pianto.
4 Prima che Isaia uscisse dal cortile centrale, il Signore gli disse: 5 «Torna indietro e riferisci a Ezechia, principe del mio popolo: Dice il Signore, Dio di Davide tuo padre: Ho udito la tua preghiera e visto le tue lacrime; ecco io ti guarirò; il terzo giorno salirai al tempio. 6 Aggiungerò alla durata della tua vita quindici anni. Libererò te e questa città dalla mano del re d'Assiria; proteggerò questa città per amore di me e di Davide mio servo». 7 Isaia disse: «Prendete un impiastro di fichi». Lo presero e lo posero sull'ulcera e il re guarì.
8 Ezechia disse a Isaia: «Qual è il segno che il Signore mi guarirà e che, il terzo giorno, salirò al tempio?». 9 Isaia rispose: «Da parte del Signore questo ti sia come segno che il Signore manterrà la promessa, fatta a te: Vuoi che l'ombra avanzi di dieci gradi oppure che retroceda di dieci gradi?». 10 Ezechia disse: «E' facile che l'ombra si allunghi di dieci gradi, non però che torni indietro di dieci gradi». 11 Il profeta Isaia invocò il Signore e l'ombra tornò indietro per i dieci gradi che essa aveva gia scorsi sulla meridiana di Acaz.
Ambasciata di Merodak-Baladan
12 In quel tempo Merodak-Baladan figlio di Baladan, re di Babilonia, mandò lettere e doni a Ezechia, perché aveva saputo che Ezechia era stato malato. 13 Ezechia gioì al loro arrivo. Egli mostrò agli inviati tutta la camera del suo tesoro, l'argento e l'oro, gli aromi e l'olio fino, il suo arsenale e quanto si trovava nei suoi magazzini; non ci fu nulla che Ezechia non mostrasse nella reggia e in tutto il suo regno.
14 Allora il profeta Isaia si presentò al re Ezechia e gli domandò: «Che hanno detto quegli uomini e da dove sono venuti a te?». Ezechia rispose: «Sono venuti da una regione lontana, da Babilonia». 15 Quegli soggiunse: «Che cosa han visto nella tua reggia?». Ezechia rispose: «Hanno visto quanto si trova nella mia reggia; non c'è nulla nei miei magazzini che io non abbia mostrato loro».
16 Allora Isaia disse a Ezechia: «Ascolta la parola del Signore! 17 Ecco giorni verranno in cui quanto si trova nella tua reggia e quanto hanno accumulato i tuoi antenati fino ad oggi verrà portato in Babilonia; non vi resterà nulla, dice il Signore. 18 Dei figli, che da te saranno nati e che tu avrai generato, alcuni saranno presi e saranno eunuchi nella reggia di Babilonia». 19 Ezechia disse a Isaia: «Buona è la parola del Signore, che mi hai riferita». Egli pensava: «Perché no? Almeno vi saranno pace e sicurezza durante la mia vita».
Conclusione sul regno di Ezechia
20 Le altre gesta di Ezechia, tutte le sue prodezze, la costruzione della piscina e del canale, con cui portò l'acqua nella città, sono descritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda. 21 Ezechia si addormentò con i suoi padri. Al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Manàsse.

Hezekiah’s Life Extended(A)
20 In (B)those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said to him, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die, and not live.’ ”
2 Then he turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the Lord, saying, 3 (C)“Remember now, O Lord, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what was good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
4 And it happened, before Isaiah had gone out into the middle court, that the word of the Lord came to him, saying, 5 “Return and tell Hezekiah (D)the leader of My people, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: (E)“I have heard your prayer, I have seen (F)your tears; surely I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord. 6 And I will add to your days fifteen years. I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; and (G)I will defend this city for My own sake, and for the sake of My servant David.” ’ ”
7 Then (H)Isaiah said, “Take a lump of figs.” So they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.
8 And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, (I)“What is the sign that the Lord will heal me, and that I shall go up to the house of the Lord the third day?”
9 Then Isaiah said, (J)“This is the sign to you from the Lord, that the Lord will do the thing which He has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees or go backward ten degrees?”
10 And Hezekiah answered, “It is an easy thing for the shadow to go down ten [a]degrees; no, but let the shadow go backward ten degrees.”
11 So Isaiah the prophet cried out to the Lord, and (K)He brought the shadow ten [b]degrees backward, by which it had gone down on the sundial of Ahaz.
The Babylonian Envoys(L)
12 (M)At that time [c]Berodach-Baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he heard that Hezekiah had been sick. 13 And (N)Hezekiah was attentive to them, and showed them all the house of his treasures—the silver and gold, the spices and precious ointment, and [d]all [e]his armory—all that was found among his treasures. There was nothing in his house or in all his dominion that Hezekiah did not show them.
14 Then Isaiah the prophet went to King Hezekiah, and said to him, “What did these men say, and from where did they come to you?”
So Hezekiah said, “They came from a far country, from Babylon.”
15 And he said, “What have they seen in your house?”
So Hezekiah answered, (O)“They have seen all that is in my house; there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shown them.”
16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the Lord: 17 ‘Behold, the days are coming when all that is in your house, and what your fathers have accumulated until this day, (P)shall be carried to Babylon; nothing shall be left,’ says the Lord. 18 ‘And (Q)they shall take away some of your sons who will [f]descend from you, whom you will beget; (R)and they shall be (S)eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’ ”
19 So Hezekiah said to Isaiah, (T)“The word of the Lord which you have spoken is good!” For he said, “Will there not be peace and truth at least in my days?”
Death of Hezekiah(U)
20 (V)Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah—all his might, and how he (W)made a (X)pool and a [g]tunnel and (Y)brought water into the city—are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 21 So (Z)Hezekiah [h]rested with his fathers. Then Manasseh his son reigned in his place.

Enfermedad y curación de Ezequías
20 (A)En aquellos días Ezequías cayó enfermo de muerte. Y vino a él el profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz, y le dijo: «Así dice el Señor: “Pon tu casa en orden, porque morirás y no vivirás(B)”». 2 Entonces él volvió su rostro hacia la pared y oró al Señor, diciendo: 3 «Te ruego, oh Señor, que te acuerdes(C) ahora de cómo yo he andado delante de Ti en verdad y con corazón íntegro, y he hecho lo bueno ante Tus ojos(D)». Y Ezequías lloró amargamente(E).
4 Y antes que Isaías hubiera salido del patio central, vino a él la palabra del Señor, diciendo: 5 «Vuelve y dile a Ezequías, príncipe de Mi pueblo(F): “Así dice el Señor, Dios de tu padre David: ‘He escuchado tu oración(G) y he visto tus lágrimas(H); entonces te sanaré. Al tercer día subirás a la casa del Señor. 6 Y añadiré quince años a tu vida[a], y te libraré a ti y a esta ciudad de la mano del rey de Asiria; y defenderé esta ciudad por amor a Mí mismo y por amor a Mi siervo David(I)’”». 7 Entonces Isaías dijo: «Tomen una masa de higos». La tomaron y la pusieron sobre la úlcera, y sanó.
8 Y Ezequías dijo a Isaías: «¿Cuál será la señal de que el Señor me sanará, y de que subiré a la casa del Señor al tercer día?». 9 Respondió Isaías: «Esta será la señal del Señor para ti, de que el Señor hará lo que ha dicho(J): ¿avanzará la sombra diez grados[b] o retrocederá diez grados[c]?». 10 Y Ezequías respondió: «Es fácil que la sombra decline diez grados; pero no que la sombra vuelva atrás diez grados». 11 El profeta Isaías clamó al Señor, y Él hizo volver atrás la sombra diez grados en las gradas por las que había declinado, en las gradas de Acaz(K).
Ezequías muestra sus tesoros
12 (L)En aquel tiempo Berodac Baladán, hijo de Baladán, rey de Babilonia, envió cartas y un regalo a Ezequías, porque oyó que Ezequías había estado enfermo. 13 Y Ezequías los escuchó y les mostró toda su casa del tesoro: la plata y el oro, las especias y el aceite precioso, su arsenal y todo lo que se hallaba en sus tesoros(M). No hubo nada en su casa ni en todo su dominio que Ezequías no les mostrara. 14 Entonces el profeta Isaías vino al rey Ezequías, y le dijo: «¿Qué han dicho esos hombres y de dónde han venido a ti?». Y Ezequías respondió: «Han venido de un país lejano, de Babilonia». 15 Y él dijo: «¿Qué han visto en tu casa?». Y Ezequías respondió: «Han visto todo lo que hay en mi casa; no hay nada entre mis tesoros que yo no les haya mostrado».
16 Entonces Isaías dijo a Ezequías: «Oye la palabra del Señor: 17 “Vienen días cuando todo lo que hay en tu casa y todo lo que tus padres han atesorado hasta el día de hoy, será llevado a Babilonia; nada quedará”, dice el Señor(N). 18 “Y algunos de tus hijos que saldrán de ti, los que engendrarás, serán llevados, y serán oficiales[d] en el palacio del rey(O) de Babilonia(P)”». 19 Entonces Ezequías dijo a Isaías: «La palabra del Señor que has hablado es buena(Q). Pues pensaba[e]: ¿No es así, si hay paz y seguridad[f] en mis días?». 20 Los demás hechos de Ezequías y todo su poderío, y cómo hizo el estanque(R) y el acueducto, y trajo agua a la ciudad, ¿no están escritos en el libro de las Crónicas de los reyes de Judá(S)? 21 Y durmió Ezequías con sus padres; y su hijo Manasés reinó en su lugar(T).

Hezekiah’s Illness(A)
20 In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”
2 Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, 3 “Remember,(B) Lord, how I have walked(C) before you faithfully(D) and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
4 Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the Lord came to him: 5 “Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard(E) your prayer and seen your tears;(F) I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord. 6 I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend(G) this city for my sake and for the sake of my servant David.’”
7 Then Isaiah said, “Prepare a poultice of figs.” They did so and applied it to the boil,(H) and he recovered.
8 Hezekiah had asked Isaiah, “What will be the sign that the Lord will heal me and that I will go up to the temple of the Lord on the third day from now?”
9 Isaiah answered, “This is the Lord’s sign(I) to you that the Lord will do what he has promised: Shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or shall it go back ten steps?”
10 “It is a simple(J) matter for the shadow to go forward ten steps,” said Hezekiah. “Rather, have it go back ten steps.”
11 Then the prophet Isaiah called on the Lord, and the Lord made the shadow go back(K) the ten steps it had gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.
Envoys From Babylon(L)(M)
12 At that time Marduk-Baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent Hezekiah letters and a gift, because he had heard of Hezekiah’s illness. 13 Hezekiah received the envoys and showed them all that was in his storehouses—the silver, the gold, the spices and the fine olive oil—his armory and everything found among his treasures. There was nothing in his palace or in all his kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them.
14 Then Isaiah the prophet went to King Hezekiah and asked, “What did those men say, and where did they come from?”
“From a distant land,” Hezekiah replied. “They came from Babylon.”
15 The prophet asked, “What did they see in your palace?”
“They saw everything in my palace,” Hezekiah said. “There is nothing among my treasures that I did not show them.”
16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the Lord: 17 The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your predecessors have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon.(N) Nothing will be left, says the Lord. 18 And some of your descendants,(O) your own flesh and blood who will be born to you, will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”(P)
19 “The word of the Lord you have spoken is good,” Hezekiah replied. For he thought, “Will there not be peace and security in my lifetime?”
20 As for the other events of Hezekiah’s reign, all his achievements and how he made the pool(Q) and the tunnel(R) by which he brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 21 Hezekiah rested with his ancestors. And Manasseh his son succeeded him as king.
