Acaz, re di Giuda
16 (A)L'anno diciassettesimo di Peca, figlio di Remalia, cominciò a re
gnare Acaz, figlio di Iotam, re di *Giuda.
2 Acaz aveva vent'anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò sedici anni a *Gerusalemme.
Egli non fece ciò che è giusto agli occhi del Signore, suo Dio, come aveva fatto *Davide suo padre; 3 ma seguí l'esempio dei re d'*Israele, e fece passare per il fuoco persino suo figlio, seguendo le pratiche abominevoli delle genti che il Signore aveva cacciate davanti ai figli d'Israele; 4 offriva sacrifici e incenso sugli alti luoghi, sulle colline, e sotto ogni albero verdeggiante.
5 Allora Resin, re di *Siria, e Peca, figlio di Remalia, re d'Israele, marciarono contro Gerusalemme per assalirla; e vi assediarono Acaz, ma non riuscirono a vincerlo. 6 In quel tempo, la Siria riconquistò Elat. Resin, re di Siria, scacciò i Giudei da Elat, e i Siri[a] entrarono a Elat, dove sono rimasti fino a oggi.
7 Acaz inviò dei messaggeri a Tiglat-Pileser, re degli Assiri, per dirgli: «Io sono tuo servo e tuo figlio; sali qua e liberami dalle mani del re di Siria e dalle mani del re d'Israele, che hanno marciato contro di me». 8 Acaz prese l'argento e l'oro che si poté trovare nella casa del Signore e nei tesori del palazzo reale, e li mandò in dono al re degli Assiri. 9 Il re d'Assiria gli diede ascolto; marciò contro *Damasco, la prese, ne deportò gli abitanti a Chir, e uccise Resin.
10 Allora il re Acaz andò a Damasco, incontro a Tiglat-Pileser, re d'Assiria; e dopo aver visto l'altare che era a Damasco, il re Acaz mandò al *sacerdote Uria il disegno e il modello di quell'altare, in tutti i suoi particolari. 11 Il sacerdote Uria costruí un altare, esattamente secondo il modello che il re Acaz gli aveva mandato da Damasco; e il sacerdote Uria lo costruí prima del ritorno del re Acaz da Damasco. 12 Al suo ritorno da Damasco, il re vide l'altare, si avvicinò, vi salí, 13 vi fece bruciare sopra il suo olocausto e la sua offerta, vi versò la sua libazione, e vi sparse il sangue dei suoi sacrifici di riconoscenza. 14 L'altare di bronzo, che era davanti al Signore –perché non fosse fra il nuovo altare e la casa del Signore –lo pose di fianco al nuovo altare, verso settentrione. 15 Il re Acaz diede quest'ordine al sacerdote Uria: «Fa' bruciare sull'altare grande l'olocausto del mattino e l'offerta della sera, l'olocausto del re e la sua oblazione, gli olocausti di tutto il popolo del paese e le sue oblazioni; versaci le loro libazioni, e spandivi tutto il sangue degli olocausti e tutto il sangue dei sacrifici; ma quanto all'altare di bronzo deciderò io». 16 Il sacerdote Uria fece tutto quello che il re Acaz gli aveva comandato. 17 Il re Acaz spezzò anche i riquadri delle basi, e ne tolse le conche che c'erano sopra; fece togliere il *mare di bronzo da sopra i buoi di bronzo che servivano da sostegno, e lo posò sopra un pavimento di pietra. 18 Fece anche togliere dalla casa del Signore, a causa del re d'Assiria, il portico del sabato che era stato costruito nella casa, e l'ingresso esterno riservato al re. 19 Il rimanente delle azioni compiute da Acaz è scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda.
20 Acaz si addormentò con i suoi padri, e con i suoi padri fu sepolto nella *città di *Davide. Suo figlio, *Ezechia, gli succedette nel regno.

2 Quando iniziò a regnare, Achaz aveva vent'anni, e regnò sedici anni a Gerusalemme. Egli non fece ciò che è giusto agli occhi dell'Eterno, suo DIO, come aveva fatto Davide suo padre;
3 ma seguí la via dei re d'Israele e fece perfino passare suo figlio per il fuoco, secondo le abominazioni delle nazioni che l'Eterno aveva scacciate davanti ai figli d'Israele.
4 inoltre faceva sacrifici e bruciava incenso sugli alti luoghi, sulle colline e sotto ogni albero verdeggiante.
5 Allora Retsin re di Siria, e Pekah figlio di Remaliah, re d'Israele, salirono per combattere contro Gerusalemme; vi assediarono Achaz, ma non riuscirono a vincerlo.
6 In quel tempo, Retsin, re di Siria, riconquistò Elath alla Siria e scacciò i Giudei da Elath; cosí i Siri, entrarono in Elath e vi sono rimasti fino al giorno d'oggi.
7 Achaz inviò messaggeri a Tiglath-Pileser, re degli Assiri, per dirgli: «lo sono tuo servo e tuo figlio, sali e liberami dalle mani del re di Siria e dalle mani del re d'Israele, che si sono levati contro di me»
8 Achaz prese quindi l'argento e l'oro che si trovava nella casa dell'Eterno e nei tesori del palazzo reale e li mandò in dono al re di Assiria
9 Allora il re di Assiria gli prestò ascolto, quindi il re di Assiria salí contro Damasco, la prese e ne deportò gli abitanti a Kir, e uccise Retsin.
10 Allora il re Achaz andò a Damasco incontro a Tiglath-Pileser, re di Assiria; visto l'altare che era a Damasco, il re Achaz mandò al sacerdote Uria il disegno dell'altare e il suo modello, in tutti i particolari per la sua esecuzione.
11 Cosí il sacerdote Uria costruí un altare, secondo tutto ciò che il re Achaz gli aveva mandato da Damasco; il sacerdote Uria lo costruí prima che il re Achaz tornasse da Damasco.
12 Quando ritornò da Damasco il re vide l'altare il re quindi si avvicinò all'altare e vi offerse sopra sacrifici.
13 Poi vi bruciò il suo olocausto e la sua offerta di cibo e versò la sua libazione e spruzzò sull'altare il sangue dei suoi sacrifici di ringraziamento.
14 Quanto all'altare di bronzo che era davanti all'Eterno, lo rimosse dal suo posto di fronte al tempio tra l'altare e la casa dell'Eterno e lo collocò a nord dell'altare
15 Poi il re Achaz ordinò al sacerdote Uria e disse: «Fa' fumare sull'altare grande l'olocausto del mattino e l'oblazione di cibo della sera l'olocausto del re e la sua oblazione di cibo, gli olocausti di tutto il popolo del paese e le sue oblazioni di cibo e le sue libazioni; e spruzzerai su di esso tutto il sangue degli olocausti e tutto il sangue dei sacrifici; all'altare di bronzo provvederò io stesso»
16 Cosí il sacerdote Uria fece tutto quello che il re Achaz gli aveva comandato.
17 Il re Achaz rimosse pure i pannelli dei carrelli e ne asportò le bacinelle, tolse giú il mare dai buoi di bronzo che lo reggevano e lo posò sopra un pavimento di pietre.
18 A motivo del re di Assiria, egli rimosse il portico del sabato, che avevano costruito nel tempio, e dalla casa dell'Eterno rimosse pure l'ingresso esterno del re.
19 Il resto delle gesta compiute da Achaz non sta forse scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda?
20 Cosí Achaz si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto con i suoi padri nella città di Davide. Al suo posto regnò suo figlio Ezechia.

Ahaz Reigns in Judah(A)
16 In the seventeenth year of Pekah the son of Remaliah, Ahaz the son of Jotham, king of Judah, began to reign. 2 Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem; and he did not do what was right in the sight of the Lord his God, as his father David had done. 3 But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel; indeed (B)he made his son pass through the fire, according to the (C)abominations of the nations whom the Lord had cast out from before the children of Israel. 4 And he sacrificed and burned incense on the (D)high places, (E)on the hills, and under every green tree.
5 (F)Then Rezin king of Syria and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, came up to Jerusalem to make war; and they besieged Ahaz but could not overcome him. 6 At that time Rezin king of Syria (G)captured [a]Elath for Syria, and drove the men of Judah from Elath. Then the [b]Edomites went to Elath, and dwell there to this day.
7 So Ahaz sent messengers to (H)Tiglath-Pileser[c] king of Assyria, saying, “I am your servant and your son. Come up and save me from the hand of the king of Syria and from the hand of the king of Israel, who rise up against me.” 8 And Ahaz (I)took the silver and gold that was found in the house of the Lord, and in the treasuries of the king’s house, and sent it as a present to the king of Assyria. 9 So the king of Assyria heeded him; for the king of Assyria went up against (J)Damascus and (K)took it, carried its people captive to (L)Kir, and killed Rezin.
10 Now King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria, and saw an altar that was at Damascus; and King Ahaz sent to Urijah the priest the design of the altar and its pattern, according to all its workmanship. 11 Then (M)Urijah the priest built an altar according to all that King Ahaz had sent from Damascus. So Urijah the priest made it before King Ahaz came back from Damascus. 12 And when the king came back from Damascus, the king saw the altar; and (N)the king approached the altar and made offerings on it. 13 So he burned his burnt offering and his grain offering; and he poured his drink offering and sprinkled the blood of his peace offerings on the altar. 14 He also brought (O)the bronze altar which was before the Lord, from the front of the [d]temple—from between the new altar and the house of the Lord—and put it on the north side of the new altar. 15 Then King Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying, “On the great new altar burn (P)the morning burnt offering, the evening grain offering, the king’s burnt sacrifice, and his grain offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, their grain offering, and their drink offerings; and sprinkle on it all the blood of the burnt offering and all the blood of the sacrifice. And the bronze altar shall be for me to inquire by.” 16 Thus did Urijah the priest, according to all that King Ahaz commanded.
17 (Q)And King Ahaz cut off (R)the panels of the carts, and removed the lavers from them; and he took down (S)the Sea from the bronze oxen that were under it, and put it on a pavement of stones. 18 Also he removed the Sabbath pavilion which they had built in the temple, and he removed the king’s outer entrance from the house of the Lord, on account of the king of Assyria.
19 Now the rest of the acts of Ahaz which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 20 So Ahaz rested with his fathers, and (T)was buried with his fathers in the City of David. Then Hezekiah his son reigned in his place.

Ahaz King of Judah(A)
16 In the seventeenth year of Pekah son of Remaliah, Ahaz(B) son of Jotham king of Judah began to reign. 2 Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. Unlike David his father, he did not do what was right(C) in the eyes of the Lord his God. 3 He followed the ways of the kings of Israel(D) and even sacrificed his son(E) in the fire, engaging in the detestable(F) practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before the Israelites. 4 He offered sacrifices and burned incense(G) at the high places, on the hilltops and under every spreading tree.(H)
5 Then Rezin(I) king of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel marched up to fight against Jerusalem and besieged Ahaz, but they could not overpower him. 6 At that time, Rezin(J) king of Aram recovered Elath(K) for Aram by driving out the people of Judah. Edomites then moved into Elath and have lived there to this day.
7 Ahaz sent messengers to say to Tiglath-Pileser(L) king of Assyria, “I am your servant and vassal. Come up and save(M) me out of the hand of the king of Aram and of the king of Israel, who are attacking me.” 8 And Ahaz took the silver and gold found in the temple of the Lord and in the treasuries of the royal palace and sent it as a gift(N) to the king of Assyria. 9 The king of Assyria complied by attacking Damascus(O) and capturing it. He deported its inhabitants to Kir(P) and put Rezin to death.
10 Then King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria. He saw an altar in Damascus and sent to Uriah(Q) the priest a sketch of the altar, with detailed plans for its construction. 11 So Uriah the priest built an altar in accordance with all the plans that King Ahaz had sent from Damascus and finished it before King Ahaz returned. 12 When the king came back from Damascus and saw the altar, he approached it and presented offerings[a](R) on it. 13 He offered up his burnt offering(S) and grain offering,(T) poured out his drink offering,(U) and splashed the blood of his fellowship offerings(V) against the altar. 14 As for the bronze altar(W) that stood before the Lord, he brought it from the front of the temple—from between the new altar and the temple of the Lord—and put it on the north side of the new altar.
15 King Ahaz then gave these orders to Uriah the priest: “On the large new altar, offer the morning(X) burnt offering and the evening grain offering, the king’s burnt offering and his grain offering, and the burnt offering of all the people of the land, and their grain offering and their drink offering. Splash against this altar the blood of all the burnt offerings and sacrifices. But I will use the bronze altar for seeking guidance.”(Y) 16 And Uriah the priest did just as King Ahaz had ordered.
17 King Ahaz cut off the side panels and removed the basins from the movable stands. He removed the Sea from the bronze bulls that supported it and set it on a stone base.(Z) 18 He took away the Sabbath canopy[b] that had been built at the temple and removed the royal entryway outside the temple of the Lord, in deference to the king of Assyria.(AA)
19 As for the other events of the reign of Ahaz, and what he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 20 Ahaz rested(AB) with his ancestors and was buried with them in the City of David. And Hezekiah his son succeeded him as king.
