Amasia, re di Giuda
14 (A)Il secondo anno di Ioas, figlio di Ioacaz re d'*Israele, cominciò a regnare Amasia, figlio di Ioas, re di *Giuda. 2 Aveva venticinque anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò ventinove anni a *Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Ioaddan, ed era di Gerusalemme.
3 Egli fece ciò che è giusto agli occhi del Signore; non però come *Davide suo padre; fece interamente come aveva fatto Ioas suo padre. 4 Tuttavia gli alti luoghi non furono soppressi; il popolo continuava a offrire sacrifici e incenso sugli alti luoghi. 5 Non appena il potere reale fu assicurato nelle sue mani, egli fece morire quei suoi servitori che avevano ucciso il re suo padre; 6 ma non fece morire i figli degli uccisori, secondo quanto è scritto nel libro della legge di *Mosè, dove il Signore ha dato questo comandamento: «Non si metteranno a morte i padri per colpa dei figli, né si metteranno a morte i figli per colpa dei padri; ma ognuno sarà messo a morte per il proprio peccato».
7 Egli uccise diecimila *Idumei nella valle del Sale; e in questa guerra conquistò Sela e le diede il nome di Iocteel[a], che ha conservato fino a oggi.
8 Allora Amasia inviò dei messaggeri a Ioas, figlio di Ioacaz, figlio di Ieu, re d'Israele, per dirgli: «Vieni, affrontiamoci!» 9 Ioas, re d'Israele, mandò a dire ad Amasia, re di Giuda: «Il rovo del Libano mandò a dire al cedro del Libano: “Da' tua figlia in sposa a mio figlio”. E le bestie selvagge del Libano passarono, e calpestarono il rovo. 10 Tu hai sconfitto gli Idumei, e il tuo cuore ti ha reso orgoglioso. Godi la tua gloria, e stattene a casa tua. Perché impegnarti in una disgraziata impresa che porterebbe alla rovina te e il regno di Giuda insieme a te?» 11 Ma Amasia non gli volle dar retta. Cosí Ioas, re d'Israele marciò contro Amasia; ed egli e Amasia, re di Giuda, si trovarono faccia a faccia a Bet-Semes, nel territorio di Giuda. 12 Giuda fu sconfitto da Israele; gli uomini di Giuda fuggirono, ognuno alla sua tenda. 13 A Bet-Semes Ioas, re d'Israele, fece prigioniero Amasia, re di Giuda, figlio di Ioas, figlio di Acazia. Poi venne a Gerusalemme, e fece una breccia di quattrocento *cubiti[b] nelle mura di Gerusalemme, dalla porta di Efraim alla porta dell'angolo. 14 E prese tutto l'oro e l'argento e tutti i vasi che si trovavano nella casa del Signore e nei tesori del palazzo del re; prese anche degli ostaggi, e se ne tornò a *Samaria.

16 Ioas si addormentò con i suoi padri, e fu sepolto a Samaria con i re d'Israele; e Geroboamo, suo figlio, regnò al suo posto.
17 Amasia, figlio di Ioas, re di Giuda, visse ancora quindici anni dopo la morte di Ioas, figlio di Ioacaz, re d'Israele.

19 Fu organizzata una congiura contro di lui a Gerusalemme; ed egli fuggí a Lachis; ma lo fecero inseguire fino a Lachis, e là fu messo a morte. 20 Da quel luogo fu trasportato sopra cavalli, e quindi sepolto a Gerusalemme con i suoi padri nella *città di *Davide. 21 Tutto il popolo di Giuda prese *Azaria, che aveva allora sedici anni, e lo fece re al posto di Amasia suo padre. 22 Egli riconquistò Elat, la riscostruí e la annesse al regno di Giuda, dopo che il re Amasia si fu addormentato con i suoi padri.
Geroboamo II, re d'Israele
23 (B)Nel quindicesimo anno di Amasia, figlio di Ioas, re di Giuda, cominciò a regnare a Samaria Geroboamo, figlio di Ioas, re d'Israele; e regnò quarantun anni.
24 Egli fece quello che è male agli occhi del Signore; non si allontanò da nessuno dei peccati con i quali *Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat, aveva fatto peccare Israele. 25 Egli ristabilí i confini d'Israele dall'ingresso di Camat al mare della pianura, come il Signore, Dio d'Israele, aveva detto per mezzo del suo servitore il *profeta *Giona, figlio di Amittai, che era di Gat-Efer. 26 Il Signore aveva visto che l'afflizione d'Israele era amarissima, che schiavi e liberi erano ridotti all'estremo, e che non c'era piú nessuno che soccorresse Israele. 27 Il Signore non aveva parlato ancora di cancellare il nome d'Israele da sotto al cielo; quindi li salvò, per mezzo di Geroboamo, figlio di Ioas.
28 Il resto delle azioni di Geroboamo, tutto quello che fece, il suo valore in guerra, e come riconquistò a Israele *Damasco e Camat che erano appartenute a Giuda, si trova scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re d'Israele.
29 Geroboamo si addormentò con i suoi padri, i re d'Israele; e Zaccaria, suo figlio, regnò al suo posto.

14 Nel secondo anno di Joas figlio di Jehoahaz, re d'Israele, iniziò a regnare Amatsiah, figlio di Joas, re di Giuda.
2 Quando iniziò a regnare aveva venticinque anni, e regnò ventinove anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Jehoaddan ed era di Gerusalemme.
3 Egli fece ciò che è giusto agli occhi dell'Eterno, ma non come Davide suo padre; fece in tutto come aveva fatto Joas suo padre.
4 Tuttavia gli alti luoghi non vennero rimossi; il popolo continuava a fare sacrifici e a bruciare incenso sugli alti luoghi.
5 Ora, non appena il regno fu saldo nelle sue mani, egli fece morire i suoi servi che avevano ucciso il re suo padre;
6 ma non fece morire i figli degli uccisori, secondo ciò che è scritto nel libro della legge di Mosè, in cui l'Eterno ha comandato, dicendo: «I padri non saranno messi a morte per i figli né i figli saranno messi a morte per i padri; ma ognuno sarà messo a morte per il proprio peccato�

10 Tu hai sconfitto Edom e il tuo cuore ti ha reso orgoglioso. Gloriati pure, ma resta a casa tua. Perché vorresti provocare una sciagura, mandando in rovina te e Giuda con te?».
11 Ma Amatsiah non gli diede ascolto. Cosí Joas, re d'Israele, salí; perciò egli ed Amatsiah, re di Giuda, si affrontarono l'un l'altro a Beth-Scemesh, che apparteneva a Giuda.
12 Giuda fu sconfitto da Israele, e ognuno fuggí alla propria tenda.
13 A Beth-Scemesh Joas, re d'Israele, catturò Amatsiah re di Giuda, figlio di Joas, figlio di Achaziah. Poi andò a Gerusalemme e fece una breccia di quattrocento cubiti nelle mura di Gerusalemme, dalla porta di Efraim alla porta dell'Angolo.

Amaziah Reigns in Judah(A)
14 In (B)the second year of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, (C)Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, became king. 2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem. 3 And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, yet not like his father David; he did everything (D)as his father Joash had done. 4 (E)However the [a]high places were not taken away, and the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.
5 Now it happened, as soon as the kingdom was established in his hand, that he executed his servants (F)who had murdered his father the king. 6 But the children of the murderers he did not execute, according to what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, in which the Lord commanded, saying, (G)“Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall children be put to death for their fathers; but a person shall be put to death for his own sin.”
7 (H)He killed ten thousand Edomites in (I)the Valley of Salt, and took [b]Sela by war, (J)and called its name Joktheel to this day.
8 (K)Then Amaziah sent messengers to [c]Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come, let us face one another in battle.” 9 And Jehoash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, (L)“The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the (M)cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son as wife’; and a wild beast that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle. 10 You have indeed defeated Edom, and (N)your heart has [d]lifted you up. Glory in that, and stay at home; for why should you meddle with trouble so that you fall—you and Judah with you?”
11 But Amaziah would not heed. Therefore Jehoash king of Israel went out; so he and Amaziah king of Judah faced one another at (O)Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah. 12 And Judah was defeated by Israel, and every man fled to his tent. 13 Then Jehoash king of Israel captured Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash, the son of Ahaziah, at Beth Shemesh; and he went to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from (P)the Gate of Ephraim to (Q)the Corner Gate—[e]four hundred cubits. 14 And he took all (R)the gold and silver, all the articles that were found in the house of the Lord and in the treasuries of the king’s house, and hostages, and returned to Samaria.
15 (S)Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did—his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah—are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 16 So Jehoash [f]rested with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. Then Jeroboam his son reigned in his place.
17 (T)Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, lived fifteen years after the death of Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel. 18 Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 19 And (U)they formed a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to (V)Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish and killed him there. 20 Then they brought him on horses, and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the City of David.
21 And all the people of Judah took (W)Azariah,[g] who was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah. 22 He built (X)Elath[h] and restored it to Judah, after [i]the king rested with his fathers.
Jeroboam II Reigns in Israel
23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, became king in Samaria, and reigned forty-one years. 24 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord; he did not depart from all the (Y)sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin. 25 He (Z)restored the [j]territory of Israel (AA)from the entrance of Hamath to (AB)the[k] Sea of the Arabah, according to the word of the Lord God of Israel, which He had spoken through His servant (AC)Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet who was from (AD)Gath Hepher. 26 For the Lord (AE)saw that the affliction of Israel was very bitter; and whether bond or free, (AF)there was no helper for Israel. 27 (AG)And the Lord did not say that He would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven; but He saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.
28 Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did—his might, how he made war, and how he recaptured for Israel, from (AH)Damascus and Hamath, (AI)what had belonged to Judah—are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 29 So Jeroboam [l]rested with his fathers, the kings of Israel. Then (AJ)Zechariah his son reigned in his place.
