⁵ For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth ^(A)was formed out of water and through water ^(B)by the word of God,

The Wedding at Cana

2 On ^(A)the third day there was a wedding at ^(B)Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. ² Jesus also was invited to the wedding with ^(C)his disciples. ³ When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” ⁴ And Jesus said to her, ^(D)“Woman, ^(E)what does this have to do with me? ^(F)My hour has not yet come.” ⁵ His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

⁶ Now there were six stone water jars there ^(G)for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty ^(H)gallons.^{[a] 7} Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. ⁸ And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. ⁹ When the master of the feast tasted ^(I)the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom ¹⁰ and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” ¹¹ This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested ^(J)his glory. And ^(K)his disciples believed in him.

A Great Crowd Follows Jesus

^7 (A)Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and ^(B)a great crowd followed, from Galilee and Judea ⁸ and Jerusalem and ^(C)Idumea and from beyond the Jordan and from around ^(D)Tyre and Sidon. When the great crowd heard all that he was doing, they came to him. ⁹ And he told his disciples to ^(E)have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they ^(F)crush him, ¹⁰ for ^(G)he had healed many, so that all who had ^(H)diseases pressed around him ^(I)to touch him. ^11 (J)And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they ^(K)fell down before him and cried out, “You are ^(L)the Son of God.” ¹² And ^(M)he strictly ordered them not to make him known.

^3 (A)how shall we escape if we ^(B)neglect such a great salvation? It was ^(C)declared at first by the Lord, and it was ^(D)attested to us ^(E)by those who heard, ^4 (F)while God also bore witness ^(G)by signs and wonders and various miracles and by ^(H)gifts of the Holy Spirit ^(I)distributed according to his will.
