Greeting

Simeon[a] Peter, a servant[b] and apostle of Jesus Christ,

To those who have obtained (A)a faith of equal standing with ours (B)by the righteousness of our (C)God and Savior Jesus Christ:

(D)May grace and peace be multiplied to you (E)in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

Confirm Your Calling and Election

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him (F)who called us to[c] his own glory and excellence,[d] by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become (G)partakers of the divine nature, (H)having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith (I)with virtue,[e] and virtue (J)with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control (K)with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness (L)with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection (M)with love. For if these qualities[f] are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or (N)unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he (O)is blind, having forgotten that he was (P)cleansed from his former sins. 10 Therefore, brothers,[g] be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and (Q)election, for if you practice these qualities (R)you will never fall. 11 For in this way there will be richly provided for you (S)an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

12 Therefore I intend (T)always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in (U)the truth that you have. 13 I think it right, as long as I am in this (V)body,[h] (W)to stir you up by way of reminder, 14 (X)since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, (Y)as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me. 15 And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things.

Christ's Glory and the Prophetic Word

16 For we did not follow (Z)cleverly devised (AA)myths when we made known to you (AB)the power and (AC)coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but (AD)we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, (AE)“This is my beloved Son,[i] with whom I am well pleased,” 18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on (AF)the holy mountain. 19 And (AG)we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention (AH)as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until (AI)the day (AJ)dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. 21 For (AK)no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God (AL)as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

False Prophets and Teachers

But (AM)false prophets also arose among the people, (AN)just as there will be false teachers among you, who will (AO)secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master (AP)who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth (AQ)will be blasphemed. And (AR)in their greed they will exploit you (AS)with false words. (AT)Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

For if God did not spare (AU)angels when they sinned, but (AV)cast them into hell[j] and committed them to chains[k] of gloomy darkness (AW)to be kept until the judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world, but (AX)preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought (AY)a flood upon the world of the ungodly; if by (AZ)turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, (BA)making them an example of (BB)what is going to happen to the ungodly;[l] and (BC)if he rescued righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked (for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, (BD)he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard); then (BE)the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials,[m] and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment, 10 and especially (BF)those who indulge[n] in the lust of defiling passion and (BG)despise authority.

Bold and willful, they do not tremble (BH)as they blaspheme the glorious ones, 11 (BI)whereas angels, though greater in might and power, do not pronounce a blasphemous judgment against them before the Lord. 12 (BJ)But these, like irrational animals, (BK)creatures of instinct, born to be caught and destroyed, blaspheming about matters of which they are ignorant, will also be destroyed in their destruction, 13 suffering wrong as (BL)the wage for their wrongdoing. They count it pleasure (BM)to revel in the daytime. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions,[o] while (BN)they feast with you. 14 They have eyes full of adultery,[p] (BO)insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts (BP)trained in greed. (BQ)Accursed children! 15 Forsaking the right way, (BR)they have gone astray. They have followed (BS)the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved (BT)gain from wrongdoing, 16 but was rebuked for his own transgression; (BU)a speechless donkey spoke with human voice and restrained the prophet's madness.

17 (BV)These are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm. (BW)For them the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved. 18 For, (BX)speaking loud boasts of folly, they entice by sensual passions of the flesh those who are barely (BY)escaping from those who live in error. 19 They promise them (BZ)freedom, (CA)but they themselves are slaves[q] of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. 20 For if, (CB)after they have escaped the defilements of the world (CC)through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, (CD)the last state has become worse for them than the first. 21 For (CE)it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from (CF)the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The (CG)dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.”

The Day of the Lord Will Come

This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them (CH)I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, (CI)that you should remember the predictions of (CJ)the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles, knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come (CK)in the last days with scoffing, (CL)following their own sinful desires. (CM)They will say, “Where is the promise of (CN)his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth (CO)was formed out of water and through water (CP)by the word of God, and that by means of these the world that then existed (CQ)was deluged with water and (CR)perished. But by the same word (CS)the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and (CT)destruction of the ungodly.

But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and (CU)a thousand years as one day. (CV)The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise (CW)as some count slowness, but (CX)is patient toward you,[r] (CY)not wishing that any should perish, but (CZ)that all should reach repentance. 10 But (DA)the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then (DB)the heavens will pass away with a roar, and (DC)the heavenly bodies[s] will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.[t]

11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, (DD)what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12 (DE)waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and (DF)the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! 13 But according to his promise we are waiting for (DG)new heavens and a new earth (DH)in which righteousness dwells.

Final Words

14 (DI)Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him (DJ)without spot or (DK)blemish, and (DL)at peace. 15 And count (DM)the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as (DN)our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you (DO)according to the wisdom given him, 16 as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. (DP)There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, (DQ)as they do the other Scriptures. 17 You therefore, beloved, (DR)knowing this beforehand, (DS)take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. 18 But (DT)grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (DU)To him be the glory both now and to the day of (DV)eternity. Amen.

The Word of Life

(DW)That which was (DX)from the beginning, (DY)which we have heard, (DZ)which we have seen with our eyes, (EA)which we looked upon and (EB)have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— (EC)the life (ED)was made manifest, and we have seen it, and (EE)testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, (EF)which was with the Father and (EG)was made manifest to us— (EH)that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed (EI)our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. And we are writing these things so (EJ)that our[u] joy may be complete.

Walking in the Light

(EK)This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that (EL)God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. (EM)If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and (EN)do not practice the truth. But (EO)if we walk in the light, (EP)as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and (EQ)the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. (ER)If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and (ES)the truth is not in us. (ET)If we confess our sins, he is (EU)faithful and just to forgive us our sins and (EV)to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, (EW)we make him a liar, and (EX)his word is not in us.

Christ Our Advocate

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, (EY)we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. (EZ)He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but (FA)also for the sins of the whole world. And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we (FB)keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments (FC)is a liar, and (FD)the truth is not in him, but whoever (FE)keeps his word, in him truly (FF)the love of God is perfected. (FG)By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he (FH)abides in him (FI)ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

The New Commandment

Beloved, I am writing you (FJ)no new commandment, but (FK)an old commandment (FL)that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. At the same time, it is (FM)a new commandment that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because[v] (FN)the darkness is passing away and (FO)the true light is already shining. Whoever says he is in the light and (FP)hates his brother is still in darkness. 10 Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him[w] there is no (FQ)cause for stumbling. 11 But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and (FR)walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

12 I am writing to you, little children,
because (FS)your sins are forgiven for his name's sake.
13 I am writing to you, fathers,
because you know (FT)him who is from the beginning.
I am writing to you, young men,
because (FU)you have overcome the evil one.
I write to you, children,
    because (FV)you know the Father.
14 I write to you, fathers,
because you know (FW)him who is from the beginning.
I write to you, young men,
    because (FX)you are strong,
and the word of God abides in you,
and you have overcome the evil one.

Do Not Love the World

15 (FY)Do not love the world or the things in the world. (FZ)If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—(GA)the desires of the flesh and (GB)the desires of the eyes and pride of life[x]—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And (GC)the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

Warning Concerning Antichrists

18 Children, (GD)it is the last hour, and as you have heard that (GE)antichrist is coming, so now (GF)many antichrists have come. (GG)Therefore we know that it is the last hour. 19 (GH)They went out from us, but they were not of us; for (GI)if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, (GJ)that it might become plain that they all are not of us. 20 But you have been (GK)anointed by (GL)the Holy One, and (GM)you all have knowledge.[y] 21 I write to you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth. 22 Who is the liar but (GN)he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is (GO)the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. 23 (GP)No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also. 24 Let (GQ)what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then (GR)you too will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that he made to us[z](GS)eternal life.

26 I write these things to you about (GT)those who are trying to deceive you. 27 But (GU)the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and (GV)you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and (GW)is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.

Children of God

28 And now, little children, abide in him, so that (GX)when he appears (GY)we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his (GZ)coming. 29 If you know that (HA)he is righteous, you may be sure that (HB)everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.

See (HC)what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called (HD)children of God; and so we are. The reason why (HE)the world does not know us is that (HF)it did not know him. Beloved, we are (HG)God's children (HH)now, and what we will be (HI)has not yet appeared; but we know that (HJ)when he appears[aa] (HK)we shall be like him, because (HL)we shall see him as he is. And everyone who (HM)thus hopes in him (HN)purifies himself as he is pure.

Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; (HO)sin is lawlessness. You know that (HP)he appeared in order to (HQ)take away sins, and (HR)in him there is no sin. No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; (HS)no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. Little children, (HT)let no one deceive you. (HU)Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. (HV)Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was (HW)to destroy the works of the devil. (HX)No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's[ab] seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. 10 By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, (HY)nor is the one who (HZ)does not love his brother.

Love One Another

11 For (IA)this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, (IB)that we should love one another. 12 We should not be like (IC)Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? (ID)Because his own deeds were evil and his brother's righteous. 13 Do not be surprised, brothers,[ac] (IE)that the world hates you. 14 We know that (IF)we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. 15 (IG)Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that (IH)no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

16 By this we know love, that (II)he laid down his life for us, and (IJ)we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 17 But (IK)if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet (IL)closes his heart against him, (IM)how does God's love abide in him? 18 Little children, let us not (IN)love in word or talk but in deed and (IO)in truth.

19 By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; 20 for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything. 21 Beloved, (IP)if our heart does not condemn us, (IQ)we have confidence before God; 22 and (IR)whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and (IS)do what pleases him. 23 And this is his commandment, (IT)that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and (IU)love one another, (IV)just as he has commanded us. 24 (IW)Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God,[ad] and God[ae] in him. And (IX)by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.

Test the Spirits

Beloved, (IY)do not believe every spirit, but (IZ)test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for (JA)many (JB)false prophets (JC)have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: (JD)every spirit that confesses that (JE)Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit (JF)that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and (JG)now is in the world already. Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for (JH)he who is in you is greater than (JI)he who is in the world. (JJ)They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and (JK)the world listens to them. We are from God. (JL)Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know (JM)the Spirit of truth and (JN)the spirit of error.

God Is Love

Beloved, (JO)let us love one another, for love is from God, and (JP)whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. (JQ)Anyone who does not love does not know God, because (JR)God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that (JS)God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, (JT)not that we have loved God (JU)but that he loved us and sent his Son to be (JV)the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 (JW)No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and (JX)his love is perfected in us.

13 (JY)By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. 14 And (JZ)we have seen and testify that (KA)the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of (KB)the world. 15 (KC)Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 So (KD)we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. (KE)God is love, and (KF)whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 17 By this (KG)is love perfected with us, so that (KH)we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because (KI)as he is so also are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love, but (KJ)perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not (KK)been perfected in love. 19 (KL)We love because he first loved us. 20 (KM)If anyone says, “I love God,” and (KN)hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot[af] love God (KO)whom he has not seen. 21 And (KP)this commandment we have from him: (KQ)whoever loves God must also love his brother.

Overcoming the World

(KR)Everyone who believes that (KS)Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and (KT)everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. (KU)By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For (KV)this is the love of God, that we (KW)keep his commandments. And (KX)his commandments are not burdensome. For (KY)everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—(KZ)our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes (LA)that Jesus is the Son of God?

Testimony Concerning the Son of God

This is he who came (LB)by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And (LC)the Spirit is the one who testifies, because (LD)the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. (LE)If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God (LF)that he has borne concerning his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God (LG)has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God (LH)has made him a liar, (LI)because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us (LJ)eternal life, and (LK)this life is in his Son. 12 (LL)Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

That You May Know

13 I write (LM)these things to you who (LN)believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 And this is (LO)the confidence that we have toward him, that (LP)if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and (LQ)God[ag] will give him life—to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. (LR)There is sin that leads to death; (LS)I do not say that one should pray for that. 17 (LT)All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death.

18 We know that (LU)everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but (LV)he who was born of God (LW)protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.

19 We know that we are from God, and (LX)the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

20 And we know that the Son of God has come and (LY)has given us understanding, so that we may know (LZ)him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and (MA)eternal life. 21 Little children, (MB)keep yourselves from idols.

Greeting

(MC)The elder to the elect lady and her children, (MD)whom I love in truth, and not only I, but also all who (ME)know (MF)the truth, (MG)because of the truth that abides in us and will be with us forever:

(MH)Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Father's Son, in truth and love.

Walking in Truth and Love

(MI)I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as we were commanded by the Father. And now I ask you, dear lady—(MJ)not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginning—(MK)that we love one another. And (ML)this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just (MM)as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it. For (MN)many deceivers (MO)have gone out into the world, (MP)those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist. Watch yourselves, (MQ)so that you may not lose what we[ah] have worked for, but (MR)may win a full reward. Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, (MS)does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching (MT)has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, (MU)do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, 11 for whoever greets him (MV)takes part in his wicked works.

Final Greetings

12 (MW)Though I have much to write to you, I would rather not use paper and ink. (MX)Instead I hope to come to you and talk face to face, (MY)so that our joy may be complete.

13 The children of your elect sister greet you.

Greeting

(MZ)The elder to the beloved Gaius, (NA)whom I love in truth.

Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul. For (NB)I rejoiced greatly when the brothers[ai] came and testified to your truth, as indeed you are walking in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that (NC)my children are walking in the truth.

Support and Opposition

Beloved, it is a faithful thing you do in all your efforts for (ND)these brothers, (NE)strangers as they are, who testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their journey in a manner (NF)worthy of God. For they have gone out for the sake of (NG)the name, (NH)accepting nothing from the Gentiles. Therefore we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.

I have written something to the church, but Diotrephes, who likes to put himself first, does not acknowledge our authority. 10 So if I come, I will bring up what he is doing, talking wicked nonsense against us. And not content with that, he refuses to welcome the brothers, and also stops those who want to and puts them out of the church.

11 Beloved, (NI)do not imitate evil but imitate good. (NJ)Whoever does good is from God; (NK)whoever does evil has not seen God. 12 Demetrius (NL)has received a good testimony from everyone, and from the truth itself. We also add our testimony, and (NM)you know that our testimony is true.

Final Greetings

13 (NN)I had much to write to you, but I would rather not write with pen and ink. 14 I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face.

15 Peace be to you. The friends greet you. Greet the friends, (NO)each by name.

Greeting

Jude, a servant[aj] of Jesus Christ and brother of James,

(NP)To those who are called, (NQ)beloved in God the Father and (NR)kept for[ak] Jesus Christ:

May (NS)mercy, (NT)peace, and love be multiplied to you.

Judgment on False Teachers

Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our (NU)common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you (NV)to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. For (NW)certain people (NX)have crept in unnoticed (NY)who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert (NZ)the grace of our God into sensuality and (OA)deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Now I want (OB)to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that (OC)Jesus, who saved[al] a people out of the land of Egypt, (OD)afterward destroyed those who did not believe. And (OE)the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day— just as (OF)Sodom and Gomorrah and (OG)the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and (OH)pursued unnatural desire,[am] serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and (OI)blaspheme the glorious ones. But when (OJ)the archangel (OK)Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing (OL)about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, (OM)“The Lord rebuke you.” 10 (ON)But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively. 11 Woe to them! For they walked in (OO)the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain (OP)to Balaam's error and (OQ)perished in Korah's rebellion. 12 These are hidden reefs[an] (OR)at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, (OS)shepherds feeding themselves; (OT)waterless clouds, (OU)swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, (OV)uprooted; 13 (OW)wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of (OX)their own shame; (OY)wandering stars, (OZ)for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever.

14 It was also about these that Enoch, (PA)the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, (PB)“Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones, 15 (PC)to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have (PD)committed in such an ungodly way, and of all (PE)the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” 16 These are grumblers, malcontents, (PF)following their own sinful desires; (PG)they are loud-mouthed boasters, (PH)showing favoritism to gain advantage.

A Call to Persevere

17 But you must (PI)remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. 18 They[ao] said to you, (PJ)“In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” 19 It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, (PK)devoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, (PL)building yourselves up in your most holy faith and (PM)praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 (PN)keep yourselves in the love of God, (PO)waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. 22 And have mercy on those who doubt; 23 save others by (PP)snatching them out of (PQ)the fire; to others show mercy (PR)with fear, hating even (PS)the garment[ap] stained by the flesh.

Doxology

24 (PT)Now to him who is able (PU)to keep you from stumbling and (PV)to present you (PW)blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, 25 to (PX)the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, (PY)be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time[aq] and now and forever. Amen.
