2 Peter 1:9-2:3

New International Version

⁹ But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind,^(A) forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.^(B)

¹⁰ Therefore, my brothers and sisters,^[a] make every effort to confirm your calling^(C) and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble,^{(D) 11} and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom^(E) of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.^(F)

Prophecy of Scripture

¹² So I will always remind you of these things,^(G) even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth^(H) you now have. ¹³ I think it is right to refresh your memory^(I) as long as I live in the tent of this body,^{(J) 14} because I know that I will soon put it aside,^(K) as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.^{(L) 15} And I will make every effort to see that after my departure^(M) you will always be able to remember these things.

¹⁶ For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power,^(N) but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.^{(O) 17} He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”^{[b](P) 18} We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.^(Q)

¹⁹ We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable,^(R) and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light^(S) shining in a dark place, until the day dawns^(T) and the morning star^(U) rises in your hearts.^{(V) 20} Above all, you must understand^(W) that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. ²¹ For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God^(X) as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.^(Y)

False Teachers and Their Destruction

2 But there were also false prophets^(Z) among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you.^(AA) They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord^(AB) who bought them^(AC)—bringing swift destruction on themselves. ² Many will follow their depraved conduct^(AD) and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. ³ In their greed^(AE) these teachers will exploit you^(AF) with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.
