2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

2 Ik bid dat God in alle dingen goed voor jullie zal zijn. Ook dat Gods vrede steeds meer in jullie zal groeien. Hoe beter jullie God en Jezus onze Heer zullen kennen, hoe meer vrede jullie zullen hebben. 3 Het is belangrijk dat we Hem steeds beter leren kennen. Want dan kan Hij ons door zijn goddelijke kracht ook steeds meer helpen. Hij zal ons dan alles kunnen geven wat we nodig hebben om te leven zoals Hij het wil en om Hem te dienen.
Hij heeft ons geroepen om zijn hemelse macht en eer met ons te delen. 4 Hij heeft ons kostbare en grote beloften gedaan. Daardoor zijn we ontsnapt aan dood en bederf. Nu kunnen we nieuwe mensen zijn die op God lijken. De dood en het bederf heersen in de wereld door de verkeerde verlangens van de mensen.
