⁷ and if he rescued Lot,^(A) a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless^(B)

¹⁶ When he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters^(A) and led them safely out of the city, for the Lord was merciful to them.^(B)

²⁹ So when God destroyed the cities of the plain,^(A) he remembered^(B) Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe^(C) that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived.^(D)

¹³ No temptation^[a] has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful;^(A) he will not let you be tempted^[b] beyond what you can bear.^(B) But when you are tempted,^[c] he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

¹⁷ Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard^(A) so that you may not be carried away by the error^(B) of the lawless^(C) and fall from your secure position.^(D)

Lying Prophets

⁹ Concerning the prophets:

⁷ and said, “No, my friends. Don’t do this wicked thing. ⁸ Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don’t do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof.”^(A)

¹³ Now the people of Sodom^(A) were wicked and were sinning greatly against the Lord.^(B)
