¹⁴ They have eyes full of adultery,^{[a] (A)}insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts ^(B)trained in greed. ^(C)Accursed children!

¹⁸ For, ^(A)speaking loud boasts of folly, they entice by sensual passions of the flesh those who are barely ^(B)escaping from those who live in error.

³ And ^(A)in their greed they will exploit you ^(B)with false words. ^(C)Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

³ among whom we all once lived in ^(A)the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body^[a] and the mind, and ^(B)were by nature ^(C)children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.^[b]

¹⁶ as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. ^(A)There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, ^(B)as they do the other Scriptures.

¹⁴ so that we may no longer be children, ^(A)tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in ^(B)deceitful schemes.

¹⁸ For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but ^(A)their own appetites,^[a] and ^(B)by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.

¹⁹ for ^(A)there must be factions among you in order ^(B)that those who are genuine among you may be recognized.

⁴⁴ How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and ^(A)do not seek the glory that comes from ^(B)the only God?
