Profetas y maestros falsos
2 Pero se levantaron falsos profetas(A) entre el pueblo, así como habrá también falsos maestros(B) entre ustedes(C), los cuales encubiertamente introducirán(D) herejías destructoras(E), negando incluso al Señor(F) que los compró[a](G), trayendo sobre sí una destrucción repentina. 2 Muchos seguirán su sensualidad(H), y por causa de ellos, el camino de la verdad(I) será blasfemado(J). 3 En su avaricia(K) los explotarán(L) con palabras falsas(M). El juicio de ellos, desde hace mucho tiempo no está ocioso(N), ni su perdición dormida.
4 Porque[b] Dios no perdonó a los ángeles cuando pecaron, sino que los arrojó al infierno(O) y los entregó a fosos de tinieblas(P), reservados para juicio. 5 Tampoco perdonó al mundo antiguo(Q), sino que guardó a Noé, un predicador de justicia, con otros siete[c](R), cuando trajo el diluvio sobre el mundo(S) de los impíos. 6 También condenó a la destrucción las ciudades de Sodoma y Gomorra, reduciéndolas a cenizas(T), poniéndolas de ejemplo(U) para los que habrían de vivir impíamente después(V). 7 Además rescató al justo Lot(W), abrumado por la conducta sensual(X) de hombres libertinos[d](Y) 8 (porque ese justo(Z), por lo que veía y oía mientras vivía entre ellos, diariamente sentía su alma justa atormentada por las iniquidades de ellos).
9 El Señor, pues, sabe rescatar de tentación a los piadosos(AA), y reservar a los injustos bajo castigo para el día del juicio(AB), 10 especialmente a los que andan tras la carne en sus deseos corrompidos(AC) y desprecian la autoridad. Atrevidos y obstinados(AD), no tiemblan cuando blasfeman de las majestades angélicas[e](AE), 11 cuando los ángeles, que son mayores en fuerza y en potencia, no pronuncian juicio injurioso contra ellos delante del Señor(AF).
12 Pero estos, como animales irracionales(AG), nacidos como criaturas de instinto para ser capturados y destruidos[f](AH), blasfemando de lo que ignoran, serán también destruidos con la destrucción de esas criaturas[g], 13 sufriendo el mal como pago de su iniquidad(AI). Cuentan por deleite andar en placeres disolutos durante el día(AJ). Son manchas e inmundicias, deleitándose(AK) en sus engaños[h] mientras banquetean con ustedes(AL). 14 Tienen los ojos llenos de adulterio y nunca cesan de pecar. Seducen(AM) a las almas inestables(AN). Tienen un corazón ejercitado en la avaricia(AO); son hijos de maldición(AP).
15 Abandonando el camino recto, se han extraviado(AQ), siguiendo el camino de Balaam, el hijo de Beor(AR), quien amó el pago de la iniquidad(AS), 16 pero fue reprendido por su transgresión, pues una muda bestia de carga, hablando con voz humana, reprimió la locura del profeta(AT). 17 Estos son manantiales sin agua(AU), bruma impulsada por una tormenta, para quienes está reservada la oscuridad de las tinieblas(AV). 18 Pues hablando con arrogancia(AW) y vanidad(AX), seducen(AY) mediante deseos carnales, por sensualidad(AZ), a los que hace poco escaparon(BA) de los que viven en el error. 19 Les prometen libertad, mientras que ellos mismos son esclavos de la corrupción, pues uno es esclavo de aquello que lo ha vencido(BB).
20 Porque si después de haber escapado(BC) de las contaminaciones del mundo por el conocimiento(BD) de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo(BE), de nuevo son enredados en ellas(BF) y vencidos, su condición postrera viene a ser peor que la primera(BG). 21 Pues hubiera sido mejor para ellos no haber conocido el camino de la justicia, que habiéndolo conocido, apartarse(BH) del santo mandamiento(BI) que les fue dado(BJ). 22 Les ha sucedido a ellos según el proverbio verdadero: «El perro vuelve a su propio vómito(BK)», y: «La puerca lavada, vuelve a revolcarse en el cieno».

Destructive Doctrines
2 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be (A)false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3 By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction [a]does not slumber.
Doom of False Teachers
4 For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to [b]hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; 5 and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; 6 and turning the cities of (B)Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; 7 and (C)delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked 8 (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, (D)tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)— 9 then (E)the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, 10 and especially (F)those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. (G)They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of [c]dignitaries, 11 whereas (H)angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord.
Depravity of False Teachers
12 But these, (I)like natural brute beasts made to be caught and destroyed, speak evil of the things they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption, 13 (J)and will receive the wages of unrighteousness, as those who count it pleasure (K)to [d]carouse in the daytime. (L)They are spots and blemishes, [e]carousing in their own deceptions while (M)they feast with you, 14 having eyes full of [f]adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. (N)They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children. 15 They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of (O)Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16 but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.
17 (P)These are wells without water, [g]clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness [h]forever.
Deceptions of False Teachers
18 For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who [i]have actually escaped from those who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of [j]corruption; (Q)for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into [k]bondage. 20 For if, after they (R)have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are (S)again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. 21 For (T)it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: (U)“A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”

2 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;
7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:
8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)
9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
11 Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.
12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;
14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.

Waarschuwing tegen bedriegers
2 Maar er waren vroeger ook leugen-profeten bij het volk. En ook bij jullie zullen er zulke bedriegers komen. Zij willen jullie verkeerde dingen leren. Ze leren jullie leugens, die slecht voor jullie zijn. Ze zullen zelfs de Heerser die hen heeft gekocht, niet als Heer willen dienen. Daardoor zal het al heel gauw slecht met hen aflopen. 2 Veel mensen zullen met hen meedoen en net als zij er maar op los leven. Zo zullen er, door hún schuld, slechte dingen worden gezegd over het goede nieuws. 3 En omdat ze hebzuchtig zijn, zullen ze proberen jullie over te halen om je geld aan hen te geven. Daarvoor gebruiken ze allerlei goedklinkende praatjes. Maar Gods oordeel over hen staat al lang vast. Hun straf is al onderweg. Het zal binnen korte tijd slecht met hen aflopen. Hij zal geen genade met hen hebben.
4 Want God heeft ook de engelen die Hem ongehoorzaam waren, geen genade gegeven. Hij heeft hen gevangen gezet in de bodemloze put. Daar wachten ze vastgebonden in de duisternis tot Hij over hen zal rechtspreken.
5 En ook de mensen van heel lang geleden die zich niets van Hem aantrokken, heeft Hij geen genade gegeven. Hij liet een grote overstroming over de wereld komen. Alleen Noach[a] werd door God gered, samen met nog zeven andere mensen. Want Noach had aan de mensen verteld dat ze verkeerd leefden en hoe God wilde dat ze zouden leven.
6 En de steden Sodom en Gomorra[b] heeft God voor straf tot as verbrand en omgekeerd. Hij deed dat als waarschuwing voor andere mensen die zich niets van Hem aantrekken. 7 Maar God redde Lot. Want Lot leefde wel zoals God het wil. En Lot vond het heel erg dat de mensen er zo op los leefden. 8 Hij woonde wel bij hen, maar hij had dag en nacht verdriet over alle slechte dingen die ze deden.
9 Dus de mensen die leven zoals God het wil, worden door Hem gered uit de moeilijkheden die hun geloof op de proef stellen. Maar de mensen[c] die zich niets van Hem aantrekken, worden door Hem gevangen gehouden tot de dag dat Hij over hen zal rechtspreken. Dan zal Hij hen straffen. 10 Hij straft dan vooral de mensen die allerlei verkeerde dingen op het gebied van seks doen en er maar op los leven en die helemaal niet willen luisteren naar de Heerser in de hemel.
Zulke slechte mensen die alleen maar aan zichzelf denken, durven zelfs slechte dingen van God te zeggen. 11 Zelfs de engelen zijn heel wat bescheidener dan zij. Want de engelen zijn wel veel sterker en machtiger dan mensen, maar willen zulke mensen niet beschuldigen bij de Heer. 12 Maar die mensen zijn net dieren zonder verstand. Ze zijn van nature alleen geschikt om gevangen genomen en gedood te worden. Want ze durven slechte dingen te zeggen over zaken waar ze niets van begrijpen. Maar ze zullen zelf worden vernietigd door de slechte dingen die ze doen. 13 Ze zullen hun verdiende straf krijgen. Ze vinden het heerlijk om overdag wilde feesten te houden en te doen waar ze zin in hebben. Als ze met jullie eten, zijn zij als rotte plekken en vieze vlekken aan jullie tafel, omdat ze nooit genoeg krijgen van liegen en bedriegen. 14 Hun ogen zijn altijd opzoek naar een vrouw. Ze krijgen er nooit genoeg van om te doen wat God verboden heeft. Ze verleiden mensen die niet tegen hen op kunnen. Ze halen hen over om met hen mee te doen. En het zijn echte geldwolven. Ze zijn vervloekt! 15 Doordat ze van het rechte pad zijn afgegaan, zijn ze verdwaald. Ze zijn dezelfde weg opgegaan als Bileam,[d] de zoon van Beor. Bileam werd ongehoorzaam aan God omdat hij veel geld hoopte te verdienen. 16 Maar zijn ezel was verstandiger dan hij: hij sprak met een mensenstem tegen Bileam om hem tegen te houden.
17 Zulke mensen zijn als bronnen waar geen water meer uit komt. Ze zijn als wolken die geen regen geven maar door de wind weggeblazen worden. Ze zullen voor eeuwig in de diepste duisternis terechtkomen. 18 Want ze leven er maar op los en doen wat ze willen. Met hun mooie praatjes verleiden ze de mensen die nog maar pas aan het kwaad zijn ontsnapt. Ze halen hen over om weer dezelfde slechte dingen te gaan doen als eerst. 19 Ze beweren dat ze vrijheid komen brengen, maar zelf zijn ze slaven van het kwaad. Want een mens is de slaaf van dat wat hem in zijn macht heeft. 20 Eerst hebben ze wel Jezus Christus als Redder en Heer leren kennen. Daardoor waren ze aan de vuiligheid van de wereld ontsnapt. Maar later zijn ze weer naar hun oude manier van leven teruggaan. Daardoor zijn ze er op het laatst erger aan toe dan in het begin toen ze Jezus nog niet kenden. 21 Ze willen nu niets meer te maken hebben met hoe God wil dat ze leven. Maar dan was het beter voor hen geweest als ze er nooit iets over hadden geweten. 22 Want met hen is dan gebeurd wat het spreekwoord zegt: 'Hij is als een hond die teruggaat naar zijn braaksel,' of wat een ander spreekwoord zegt: 'Hij is als een schoongewassen varken dat teruggaat naar de modder.'
