2 Moseboken 17

Vatten ur klippan

17 (A) På Herrens befallning bröt hela Israels församling upp från öknen Sin och drog från lägerplats till lägerplats, och de slog läger i Refidim. Där hade folket inget vatten att dricka.

2 (B) Då grälade folket på Mose och sade: ”Ge oss vatten att dricka!” Mose svarade dem: ”Varför grälar ni med mig? Varför sätter ni Herren på prov?” 3 Men folket törstade efter vatten, och de klagade på Mose och sade: ”Varför har du fört oss ut ur Egypten, så att vi och våra barn och vår boskap måste dö av törst?”

4 Då ropade Mose till Herren och sade: ”Vad ska jag göra med det här folket? Snart stenar de mig!” 5 (C) Herren svarade Mose: ”Ta med dig några av de äldste i Israel och gå framför folket. Och ta i din hand staven med vilken du slog på Nilfloden och gå. 6 (D) Se, jag ska stå där framför dig på Horebs klippa, och du ska slå på klippan[a]. Då ska vatten komma ut ur den så att folket får dricka.”

Mose gjorde så inför de äldste i Israel. 7 (E) Och han gav platsen namnet Massa och Meriba,[b] eftersom Israels barn hade klagat och satt Herren på prov och sagt: ”Är Herren ibland oss eller inte?”

Amalekiterna besegras

8 (F) Sedan kom Amalek[c] och stred mot Israel i Refidim. 9 Då sade Mose till Josua: ”Välj ut manskap åt oss och dra ut i strid mot Amalek. I morgon ska jag ställa mig överst på höjden med Guds stav i handen.”

10 Josua gjorde som Mose hade sagt till honom och stred mot Amalek, medan Mose, Aron och Hur steg upp överst på höjden. 11 Och så länge Mose höll upp sin hand hade Israel övertaget, men när han lät handen sjunka fick Amalek övertaget. 12 När Moses händer blev tunga tog de därför en sten och lade under honom, och han satte sig på den. Sedan stödde Aron och Hur hans händer, en på var sida. Så hölls hans händer stadiga tills solen gick ner. 13 Och Josua besegrade Amalek och hans folk med svärd.

14 (G) Herren sade till Mose: ”Skriv[d] upp detta i boken så att ni inte glömmer det och inpränta det hos Josua, för jag ska utplåna minnet av Amalek så grundligt att det inte finns mer under himlen.” 15 (H) Och Mose byggde ett altare och gav det namnet Herren mitt baner. 16 (I) Han sade: ”En hand har lyfts mot Herrens tron.[e] Herren ska strida mot Amalek från släkte till släkte.”

17 (A)Toda la congregación de los israelitas marchó por[a] jornadas desde el desierto de Sin(B), conforme al mandamiento[b] del Señor. Acamparon en Refidim, y no había agua para que el pueblo bebiera(C). 2 Entonces el pueblo discutió con Moisés(D), y le dijeron: «Danos agua para beber». «¿Por qué discuten conmigo?», les dijo Moisés. «¿Por qué tientan al Señor(E)?». 3 Pero el pueblo tuvo sed allí[c], y murmuró el pueblo contra Moisés(F), y dijo: «¿Por qué nos has hecho subir de Egipto para matarnos[d] de sed a nosotros, a nuestros[e] hijos y a nuestros[f] ganados(G)?».

4 Y clamó Moisés al Señor y dijo: «¿Qué haré con este pueblo? Un poco más y me apedrearán(H)». 5 Entonces el Señor dijo a Moisés: «Pasa delante del pueblo y toma contigo a algunos de los ancianos de Israel(I), y toma en tu mano la vara con la cual golpeaste el Nilo, y ve(J). 6 Yo estaré allí delante de ti sobre la peña en Horeb(K). Golpearás la peña, y saldrá agua de ella para que beba el pueblo(L)». Y así lo hizo Moisés en presencia de los ancianos de Israel.

7 Y puso a aquel lugar el nombre de Masah[g](M) y Meriba[h](N), por la contienda de los israelitas, y porque tentaron al Señor(O), diciendo: «¿Está el Señor entre nosotros o no?».

Guerra con Amalec

8 Entonces vino Amalec(P) y peleó contra Israel en Refidim(Q). 9 Y Moisés dijo a Josué(R): «Escógenos hombres, y sal a pelear contra Amalec. Mañana yo estaré sobre la cumbre de la colina con la vara de Dios en mi mano(S)». 10 Josué hizo como Moisés le dijo, y peleó[i] contra Amalec. Moisés, Aarón y Hur(T) subieron a la cumbre de la colina.

11 Y sucedía que mientras Moisés tenía en alto su mano, Israel prevalecía; y cuando dejaba caer[j] la mano, prevalecía Amalec. 12 Pero las manos de Moisés se le cansaban[k]. Entonces tomaron una piedra y la pusieron debajo de él, y se sentó en ella. Y Aarón y Hur le sostenían las manos(U), uno de un lado y otro del otro. Así estuvieron sus manos firmes hasta que se puso el sol. 13 Josué deshizo[l] a Amalec y a su pueblo a filo de espada.

14 Entonces dijo el Señor a Moisés: «Escribe esto en un[m] libro(V) para que sirva de memorial, y haz saber a[n] Josué que Yo borraré por completo la memoria de Amalec de debajo del cielo(W)». 15 Y edificó Moisés un altar(X), y le puso por nombre El Señor es mi Estandarte(Y), 16 y dijo: «El Señor lo ha jurado[o](Z). El Señor hará guerra contra Amalec de generación en generación».

Water From the Rock

17 The whole Israelite community set out from the Desert of Sin,(A) traveling from place to place as the Lord commanded. They camped at Rephidim,(B) but there was no water(C) for the people to drink. 2 So they quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water(D) to drink.”(E)

Moses replied, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the Lord to the test?”(F)

3 But the people were thirsty(G) for water there, and they grumbled(H) against Moses. They said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die(I) of thirst?”

4 Then Moses cried out to the Lord, “What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone(J) me.”

5 The Lord answered Moses, “Go out in front of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff(K) with which you struck the Nile,(L) and go. 6 I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb.(M) Strike(N) the rock, and water(O) will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 And he called the place Massah[a](P) and Meribah[b](Q) because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the Lord saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”

The Amalekites Defeated

8 The Amalekites(R) came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim.(S) 9 Moses said to Joshua,(T) “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff(U) of God in my hands.”

10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur(V) went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning,(W) but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset.(X) 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite(Y) army with the sword.

14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write(Z) this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out(AA) the name of Amalek(AB) from under heaven.”

15 Moses built an altar(AC) and called(AD) it The Lord is my Banner. 16 He said, “Because hands were lifted up against[c] the throne of the Lord,[d] the Lord will be at war against the Amalekites(AE) from generation to generation.”(AF)
