Die Viehseuche
9 Da sprach der Herr zu Mose: Gehe hinein zum Pharao und sprich zu ihm: So spricht der Herr, der Gott der Hebräer: Laß mein Volk gehen, daß es mir diene! 2 Denn wenn du dich weigerst, sie ziehen zu lassen und sie weiter aufhältst, 3 siehe, so wird die Hand des Herrn kommen über dein Vieh auf dem Feld, über Pferde, Esel, Kamele, Rinder und Schafe, mit einer sehr schweren Viehseuche. 4 Und der Herr wird einen Unterschied machen zwischen dem Vieh der Israeliten und dem Vieh der Ägypter, daß aus allem, was den Kindern Israel gehört, kein einziges sterbe.
5 Und der Herr bestimmte eine Zeit und sprach: Morgen wird der Herr solches im Land tun! 6 Und der Herr tat es am folgenden Tag, und alles Vieh der Ägypter starb, aber von dem Vieh der Kinder Israel starb kein einziges. 7 Und der Pharao sandte [Boten] hin, und siehe, von dem Vieh Israels war nicht eines gestorben. Gleichwohl blieb das Herz des Pharao verhärtet, daß er das Volk nicht gehen ließ.
Die Geschwüre an Menschen und Tieren
8 Da sprach der Herr zu Mose und Aaron: Nehmet eure Hände voll Ofenruß, und Mose sprenge ihn vor dem Pharao zum Himmel, 9 daß er über ganz Ägyptenland stäube und zu Geschwüren werde, die als Blattern aufbrechen an Menschen und Vieh in ganz Ägyptenland.
10 Da nahmen sie Ofenruß und standen vor dem Pharao, und Mose sprengte ihn zum Himmel. Da wurden Geschwüre daraus, die als Blattern aufbrachen an Menschen und Vieh, 11 so daß die Zauberer wegen der Geschwüre nicht vor Mose stehen konnten. Denn an den Zauberern und an allen Ägyptern waren Geschwüre. 12 Aber der Herr verstockte das Herz des Pharao, daß er nicht auf sie hörte, wie denn der Herr zu Mose gesagt hatte.
Der Hagelschlag
13 Da sprach der Herr zu Mose: Mache dich am Morgen früh auf und tritt vor den Pharao und sprich zu ihm: So spricht der Herr, der Gott der Hebräer: Laß mein Volk gehen, daß es mir diene! 14 Sonst will ich diesmal alle meine Plagen gegen dein Herz richten und gegen deine Knechte und gegen dein Volk, damit du erfährst, daß auf der ganzen Erde nicht meinesgleichen ist. 15 Denn ich hätte meine Hand schon ausstrecken und dich und dein Volk mit Pestilenz schlagen können, daß du von der Erde vertilgt worden wärest; 16 aber ich habe dich deswegen bestehen lassen, daß ich dir meine Macht zeige, und daß mein Name auf der ganzen Erde verkündigt werde. 17 Stellst du dich aber meinem Volk noch weiter entgegen und willst es nicht ziehen lassen, 18 siehe, so will ich morgen um diese Zeit einen sehr schweren Hagel regnen lassen, desgleichen in Ägypten bisher nicht gewesen, seit der Zeit, da es gegründet wurde. 19 Und nun laß dein Vieh und alles, was du auf dem Feld hast, in Sicherheit bringen; denn auf alle Menschen und alles Vieh, die sich auf dem Feld befinden und nicht in den Häusern versammelt sind, auf die wird der Hagel fallen, und sie werden umkommen.
20 Wer nun von den Knechten des Pharao des Herrn Wort fürchtete, der ließ seine Knechte und sein Vieh in die Häuser fliehen; 21 welcher Herz sich aber nicht an des Herrn Wort kehrte, die ließen ihre Knechte und ihr Vieh auf dem Feld.
22 Da sprach der Herr zu Mose: Strecke deine Hand aus zum Himmel, damit es über ganz Ägyptenland hagle, über die Menschen und über das Vieh und über alles Gewächs auf dem Feld in Ägypten. 23 So streckte Mose seinen Stab zum Himmel. Und der Herr ließ donnern und hageln, daß das Feuer auf die Erde schoß. Und der Herr ließ Hagel regnen auf Ägyptenland. 24 Es war aber zugleich Hagel und ein unaufhörliches Blitzen mitten in den Hagel hinein, so stark, daß desgleichen in ganz Ägypten niemals gewesen, seitdem es bevölkert ist. 25 Und der Hagel erschlug in ganz Ägyptenland alles, was auf dem Feld war, Menschen und Vieh. Auch zerschlug der Hagel alles Gewächs auf dem Feld und zerbrach alle Bäume auf dem Land. 26 Nur im Land Gosen, wo die Kinder Israel waren, hagelte es nicht.
27 Da schickte der Pharao hin und ließ Mose und Aaron rufen und sprach zu ihnen: Diesmal habe ich mich versündigt! Der Herr ist gerecht; ich aber und mein Volk sind schuldig! 28 Bittet aber den Herrn, daß des Donners Gottes und des Hagels genug sei, so will ich euch ziehen lassen, damit ihr nicht länger hier bleibt!
29 Mose sprach zu ihm: Wenn ich zur Stadt hinaus komme, so will ich meine Hände gegen den Herrn ausstrecken; so wird der Donner ablassen und kein Hagel mehr sein, damit du erfährst, daß die Erde des Herrn ist! 30 Ich weiß aber, daß du und deine Knechte euch vor Gott, dem Herrn, noch nicht fürchtet.
31 Es waren aber der Flachs und die Gerste zerschlagen; denn die Gerste hatte Ähren und der Flachs Knospen getrieben. 32 Aber der Weizen und der Spelt waren nicht zerschlagen; denn die kommen später.
33 Nun ging Mose vom Pharao weg zur Stadt hinaus und streckte seine Hand aus gegen den Herrn, und der Donner und der Hagel ließen nach, und der Regen fiel nicht mehr auf die Erde. 34 Da aber der Pharao sah, daß der Regen, der Hagel und der Donner nachließen, versündigte er sich weiter und verhärtete sein Herz, er und seine Knechte. 35 So wurde das Herz des Pharao verstockt, daß er die Kinder Israel nicht ziehen ließ, wie der Herr durch Mose geredet hatte.

Egyptian Livestock Die
9 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and speak to him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews says: “(A)Let My people go, so that they may serve Me. 2 For (B)if you refuse to let them go and [a]continue to hold them, 3 behold, (C)the hand of the Lord [b]will come with a very severe plague on your livestock which are in the field, on the horses, on the donkeys, on the camels, on the herds, and on the flocks. 4 (D)But the Lord will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt, so that (E)nothing will die of all that belongs to the sons of Israel.”’” 5 And the Lord set a definite time, saying, “Tomorrow the Lord will do this thing in the land.” 6 So the Lord did this thing on the next day, and (F)all the livestock of Egypt died; (G)but not one of the livestock of the sons of Israel died. 7 And Pharaoh sent men, and they learned that, behold, not even one of the livestock of Israel was dead. But (H)the heart of Pharaoh was [c]hardened, and he did not let the people go.
The Plague of Boils
8 Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Take for yourselves handfuls of soot from a kiln, and Moses shall toss it toward the sky in the sight of Pharaoh. 9 Then it will become fine dust over all the land of Egypt, and will turn into (I)boils breaking out with sores on every person and animal through all the land of Egypt.” 10 So they took soot from a kiln, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses tossed it toward the sky, and it became boils breaking out with sores on every person and animal. 11 (J)The soothsayer priests could not stand before Moses because of the boils, for the boils were on the soothsayer priests as well as on all the Egyptians. 12 But (K)the Lord [d]hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord had spoken to Moses.
13 Then the Lord said to Moses, “(L)Rise up early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews says: “(M)Let My people go, so that they may serve Me. 14 For this time I am going to send all My plagues [e]on you and your servants and your people, so that (N)you may know that there is no one like Me in all the earth. 15 For had I now put out My hand and struck you and your people with plague, you would then have been eliminated from the earth. 16 But indeed, (O)for this reason I have allowed you to [f]remain, in order to show you My power and in order to proclaim My name throughout the earth. 17 Still you exalt yourself against My people [g]by not letting them go.
The Plague of Hail
18 Behold, about this time tomorrow, (P)I will [h]send a very heavy hail, such as has not been seen in Egypt from the day it was founded [i]until now. 19 So now, send word, bring (Q)your livestock and whatever you have in the field to safety. (R)Every person and animal that is found in the field and is not brought home, when the hail comes down on them, will die.”’” 20 (S)Everyone among the servants of Pharaoh who [j]feared the word of the Lord hurried to bring his servants and his livestock into the houses; 21 but everyone who [k]did not pay regard to the word of the Lord [l]left his servants and his livestock in the field.
22 Now the Lord said to Moses, “Reach out with your hand toward the sky, so that [m](T)hail may fall on all the land of Egypt, on every person and animal, and on every plant of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.” 23 So Moses reached out with his staff toward the sky, and the Lord [n]sent [o]thunder and (U)hail, and fire ran down to the earth. And the Lord rained hail on the land of Egypt. 24 So there was hail, and fire flashing intermittently in the midst of the hail, which was very heavy, such as had not occurred in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. 25 (V)The hail struck everything that was in the field through all the land of Egypt, from people to animals; the hail also struck every plant of the field, and shattered every tree of the field. 26 (W)Only in the land of Goshen, where the sons of Israel were, was there no hail.
27 Then Pharaoh [p](X)sent for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, “(Y)I have sinned this time; the Lord is the righteous one, and I and my people are the wicked ones. 28 (Z)Plead with the Lord, for there has been enough of God’s [q]thunder and hail; and (AA)I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer.” 29 Moses said to him, “As soon as I go out of the city, I will (AB)spread out my [r]hands to the Lord; the [s]thunder will cease and there will no longer be hail, so that you may know that (AC)the earth is the Lord’s. 30 (AD)But as for you and your servants, I know that (AE)you do not yet [t]fear [u]the Lord God.” 31 (Now the flax and the (AF)barley were [v]ruined, for the barley was in the ear and the flax was in bud. 32 But the wheat and the spelt were not [w]ruined, for they ripen late.) 33 (AG)So Moses left the city from his meeting with Pharaoh, and spread out his [x]hands to the Lord; and the [y]thunder and the hail stopped, and rain [z]no longer poured on the earth. 34 But when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the [aa]thunder had stopped, he sinned again and [ab]hardened his heart, he and his servants. 35 So Pharaoh’s heart was [ac]hardened, and he did not let the sons of Israel go, just as the (AH)Lord had spoken through Moses.
