12 Och HERREN talade till Mose och Aron i Egyptens land och sade:
2 Denna månad skall hos eder vara den främsta månaden, den skall hos eder vara den första av årets månader.
3 Talen till Israels hela menighet och sägen: På tionde dagen i denna månad skall var husfader taga sig ett lamm, så att vart hushåll får ett lamm.
4 Men om hushållet är för litet till ett lamm, så skola husfadern och hans närmaste granne taga ett lamm tillsammans, efter personernas antal. För vart lamm skolen I beräkna ett visst antal, i mån av vad var och en äter.
5 Ett felfritt årsgammalt lamm av hankön skolen I utvälja; av fåren eller av getterna skolen I taga det.
6 Och I skolen förvara det intill fjortonde dagen i denna månad; då skall man -- Israels hela församlade menighet -- slakta det vid aftontiden.
7 Och man skall taga av blodet och stryka på båda dörrposterna och på övre dörrträet i husen där man äter det.
8 Och man skall äta köttet samma natt; det skall vara stekt på eld, och man skall äta det med osyrat bröd jämte bittra örter.
9 I skolen icke äta något därav rått eller kokt i vatten, utan det skall vara stekt på eld, med huvud, fötter och innanmäte.
10 Och I skolen icke lämna något därav kvar till morgonen; skulle något därav bliva kvar till morgonen, skolen I bränna upp det i eld.
11 Och I skolen äta det så: I skolen vara omgjordade kring edra länder, hava edra skor på fötterna och edra stavar i händerna. Och I skolen äta det med hast. Detta är HERRENS Påsk.
12 Ty jag skall på den natten gå fram genom Egyptens land och slå allt förstfött i Egyptens land, både människor och boskap; och över Egyptens alla gudar skall jag hålla dom; jag är HERREN.
13 Och blodet skall vara ett tecken, eder till räddning, på de hus i vilka I ären; ty när jag ser blodet, skall jag gå förbi eder. Och ingen hemsökelse skall drabba eder med fördärv, när jag slår Egyptens land.
14 Och I skolen hava denna dag till en åminnelsedag och fira den såsom en HERRENS högtid. Såsom en evärdlig stiftelse skolen I fira den, släkte efter släkte.
15 I sju dagar skolen I äta osyrat bröd; redan på första dagen skolen I skaffa bort all surdeg ur edra hus. Ty var och en som äter något syrat, från den första dagen till den sjunde, han skall utrotas ur Israel.
16 På den första dagen skolen I hålla en helig sammankomst; I skolen ock på den sjunde dagen hålla en helig sammankomst. På dem skall intet arbete göras; allenast det som var och en behöver till mat, det och intet annat må av eder tillredas.
17 Och I skolen hålla det osyrade brödets högtid, eftersom jag på denna samma dag har fört edra härskaror ut ur Egyptens land. Därför skolen I, släkte efter släkte, hålla denna dag såsom en evärdlig stiftelse.
18 I första månaden, på fjortonde dagen i månaden, om aftonen, skolen I äta osyrat bröd, och I skolen fortfara därmed ända till aftonen på tjuguförsta dagen i månaden.
19 I sju dagar må ingen surdeg finnas i edra hus; ty var och en son äter något syrligt, han skall utrotas ur Israels menighet, evad han är främling eller inföding i landet.
20 Intet syrligt skolen I äta; var I än ären bosatta skolen I äta osyrat bröd.
21 Och Mose kallade till sig alla de äldste i Israel och sade till dem: »Begiven eder hem, och tagen eder ett lamm för vart hushåll och slakten påskalammet.
22 Och tagen en knippa isop och doppen den i blodet som är i skålen, och bestryken det övre dörr träet och båda dörrposterna med blodet som är i skålen; och ingen av eder må gå ut genom sin hus dörr intill morgonen.
23 Ty HERREN skall gå fram för att hemsöka Egypten; men när ha ser blodet på det övre dörrträet och på de två dörrposterna, skall HERREN gå förbi dörren och icke tillstädja Fördärvaren att komma i i edra hus och hemsöka eder.
24 Detta skolen I hålla; det skall vara en stadga för dig och dina barn till evärdlig tid.
25 Och när I kommen in i det land som HERREN skall giva åt eder, såsom han har lovat, skolen I hålla denna gudstjänst.
26 När då edra barn fråga eder: 'Vad betyder denna eder gudstjänst?',
27 skolen I svara: 'Det är ett påskoffer åt HERREN, därför att han gick förbi Israels barns hus i Egypten, när han hemsökte Egypten, men skonade våra hus.'» Då böjde folket sig ned och tillbad.
28 Och Israels barn gingo åstad och gjorde så; de gjorde såsom HERREN hade bjudit Mose och Aron.
29 Och vid midnattstiden slog HERREN allt förstfött i Egyptens land, från den förstfödde hos Farao, som satt på tronen, ända till den förstfödde hos fången, som satt i fängelset, så ock allt förstfött ibland boskapen.
30 Då stod Farao upp om natten jämte alla sina tjänare och alla egyptier, och ett stort klagorop upphävdes i Egypten; ty intet hus fanns, där icke någon död låg.
31 Och han kallade Mose och Aron till sig om natten och sade: »Stån upp och dragen ut från mitt folk, I själva och Israels barn; och gån åstad och hållen gudstjänst åt HERREN, såsom I haven begärt.
32 Tagen ock edra får och edra fäkreatur, såsom I haven begärt, och gån åstad, och välsignen därvid mig.»
33 Och egyptierna trängde på folket för att med hast få dem ut ur landet, ty de tänkte: »Eljest dö vi allasammans.»
34 Och folket tog med sig sin deg, innan den ännu hade blivit syrad; de togo sina baktråg och lindade in dem i mantlarna och buro dem på sina axlar.
35 Och Israels barn hade gjort såsom Mose sade: de hade av egyptierna begärt deras klenoder av silver och guld, så ock kläder.
36 Och HERREN hade låtit folket finna nåd för egyptiernas ögon, så att de gåvo dem vad de begärde. Så togo de byte från egyptierna.
37 Och Israels barn bröto upp och drogo från Rameses till Suckot, vid pass sex hundra tusen män till fots, förutom kvinnor och barn.
38 En hop folk av allahanda slag drog ock åstad med dem, därtill får och fäkreatur, boskap i stor myckenhet.
39 Och av degen som de hade fört med sig ur Egypten bakade de osyrade kakor, ty den hade icke blivit syrad; de hade ju drivits ut ur Egypten utan att få dröja; ej heller hade de kunnat tillreda någon reskost åt sig.
40 Men den tid Israels barn hade bott i Egypten var fyra hundra trettio år.
41 Just på den dag då de fyra hundra trettio åren voro förlidna drogo alla HERRENS härskaror ut ur Egyptens land.
42 En HERRENS vakenatt var detta, när han skulle föra dem ut ur Egyptens land; denna samma natt är HERRENS, en högtidsvaka för alla Israels barn, släkte efter släkte.
43 Och HERREN sade till Mose och Aron: »Detta är stadgan om påskalammet: Ingen utlänning skall äta därav;
44 men en träl som är köpt för penningar må äta därav, sedan du ha omskurit honom.
45 En inhysesman och en legodräng må icke äta därav.
46 I ett och samma hus skall det ätas; du skall icke föra något av köttet ut ur huset, och intet ben skolen I sönderslå därpå.
47 Israels hela menighet skall iakttaga detta.
48 Och om någon främling bor hos dig och vill hålla HERRENS påskhögtid, så skall allt mankön hos honom omskäras, och sedan må han komma och hålla den; han skall då vara såsom en inföding i landet. Men ingen oomskuren må äta därav.
49 En och samma lag skall gälla för infödingen och för främlingen som bor ibland eder.»
50 Och alla Israels barn gjorde så; de gjorde såsom HERREN hade bjudit Mose och Aron.
51 Så förde då HERREN på denna samma dag Israels barn ut ur Egyptens land, efter deras härskaror.

12 Estando aún Moisés y Aarón en Egipto, les dijo el Señor:
2 — Este mes será para ustedes el principal, el mes con que comenzarán el año. 3 Digan a toda la comunidad de Israel: el diez de este mes cada uno tomará un cordero, uno por cada casa y familia. 4 Si la familia es muy pequeña para comérselo entero, que se junte con su vecino más próximo teniendo en cuenta el número de comensales y la porción de cordero que cada uno pueda comer. 5 El cordero deberá ser de un año, macho y sin ningún defecto. Podrá ser cordero o cabrito. 6 Lo guardarán hasta el día catorce de este mes, y en la tarde de ese día toda la comunidad de Israel procederá a inmolarlo. 7 Untarán luego con la sangre del animal las jambas y el dintel de la puerta de las casas en que se haya de comer. 8 En esa noche se comerá la carne asada al fuego, acompañada de hierbas amargas y panes sin levadura. 9 No comerán nada crudo o cocido. Todo deberá estar asado al fuego: cabeza, patas y vísceras. 10 Nada dejarán para el día siguiente; si queda algo, lo quemarán. 11 Lo comerán así: la túnica atada, las sandalias abrochadas y la vara en la mano; lo comerán a toda prisa. Es la Pascua del Señor.
12 Esa noche recorreré el país de Egipto para exterminar a todos sus primogénitos, tanto personas como animales. De este modo, yo, el Señor, daré un justo escarmiento a todos los dioses egipcios. 13 La sangre servirá de señal en las casas que ustedes habitan: cuando yo vea la sangre pasaré de largo y no les alcanzará la plaga exterminadora con que castigaré a Egipto. 14 Ese será para ustedes un día memorable; en él celebrarán fiesta en honor del Señor, y esto quedará como institución perpetua para las generaciones futuras.
Los panes sin levadura
15 Durante siete días comerán panes sin levadura; desde el primer día harán desaparecer la levadura de sus casas, porque cualquiera que comiere algo fermentado durante esos días será expulsado de Israel. 16 Tanto el primer día como el séptimo, celebrarán una asamblea sagrada. Durante esos días no estará permitido realizar ningún trabajo, exceptuando únicamente el necesario para preparar la comida. 17 Observarán la fiesta de los Panes sin levadura, porque en ese día saqué yo a sus tribus de Egipto. Celebrarán ese día como institución perpetua para las generaciones venideras. 18 Desde la tarde del día catorce del primer mes hasta la tarde del veintiuno comerán panes sin levadura. 19 Durante esos siete días no deberá haber levadura en sus casas, porque cualquiera que coma algo fermentado, tanto si es extranjero como si es israelita, será expulsado de la comunidad de Israel.
20 No comerán nada fermentado; donde quiera que vivan, comerán panes sin levadura.
Sacrificio del cordero
21 Moisés convocó a todos los ancianos de Israel y les dijo:
— Vayan a escoger un cordero por familia, e inmólenlo para celebrar la Pascua. 22 Después tomen un manojo de hisopo, empápenlo en la sangre del animal recogida en un recipiente, y unten con ella el dintel y las dos jambas de la puerta. Que nadie salga de su casa hasta la mañana siguiente. 23 Porque el Señor pasará hiriendo de muerte a los egipcios, y cuando vea la sangre en el dintel y en las dos jambas, pasará sin detenerse en aquella puerta y no dejará que el exterminador entre en sus casas para matar. 24 Obedezcan este mandato del Señor como una ley perpetua para ustedes y para sus hijos. 25 Cuando ustedes entren en la tierra que el Señor les va a dar, tal como lo ha prometido, seguirán celebrando este rito. 26 Y cuando sus hijos les pregunten: “¿Qué significa este rito?”, 27 les responderán: “Es el sacrificio de la Pascua en honor del Señor, que pasó sin detenerse en las casas de los israelitas en Egipto, cuando hirió de muerte a los egipcios y protegió a nuestras familias”.
Entonces los israelitas se postraron en actitud de adoración. 28 Luego hicieron lo que el Señor había ordenado a Moisés y Aarón.
La muerte de los primogénitos
29 A medianoche, el Señor hizo morir a los primogénitos en Egipto, desde el primogénito del faraón —heredero del trono— hasta el primogénito del que estaba encerrado en el calabozo, y también a las primeras crías del ganado. 30 Se levantó aquella noche el faraón junto con sus cortesanos y todos los egipcios, y un alarido inmenso se oyó en todo Egipto porque no había casa en donde no hubiera algún muerto. 31 Esa misma noche el faraón mandó llamar a Moisés y Aarón para decirles:
— Marchénse, aléjense de mi gente; ustedes y todos los israelitas vayan a ofrecer culto al Señor, como lo pidieron. 32 Lleven también con ustedes las ovejas y las vacas, como querían, y márchense. Y rueguen por mí.
Éxodo de Egipto
33 Los egipcios apuraban al pueblo, para que saliese del país cuanto antes, pues decían: “Vamos a morir todos”. 34 El pueblo recogió la masa de harina aún sin fermentar y, junto con las artesas, la envolvieron en mantas y se la echaron al hombro. 35 Además, obedeciendo las órdenes de Moisés, les pidieron a los egipcios objetos de oro y plata, y vestidos. 36 El Señor hizo que los israelitas se ganasen el favor de los egipcios, que les dieron todo cuanto les pedían. Así fue como despojaron a los egipcios.
37 Los israelitas partieron de Ramsés en dirección a Sucot; eran más de seiscientos mil hombres de a pie, sin contar los niños. 38 Además partió con ellos una enorme muchedumbre de gente con gran cantidad de ovejas y vacas. 39 Como la masa que sacaron de Egipto no llegó a fermentar, la cocieron e hicieron panes sin levadura, pues al tener que salir precipitadamente, expulsados por los egipcios, no tuvieron tiempo de hacer otras provisiones para el viaje.
40 Los israelitas estuvieron en Egipto cuatrocientos treinta años. 41 Y justo en el mismo día en que se cumplían los cuatrocientos treinta años, todos los ejércitos del Señor salieron de Egipto. 42 Aquella noche el Señor veló para sacarlos de Egipto. Esa es la noche del Señor, noche en que los israelitas también deberán mantenerse en vela generación tras generación.
Leyes de la Pascua
43 El Señor dijo a Moisés y Aarón:
— Estas son las instrucciones relativas a la Pascua: Ningún extranjero podrá comer el cordero pascual. 44 En cambio, sí podrá comer de él el esclavo que hayas comprado y circuncidado. 45 Tampoco lo comerá el inmigrante ni el jornalero. 46 Lo comerán todo en la misma casa. No se sacará de la casa el más mínimo trozo de carne del animal sacrificado, ni se le quebrará un solo hueso. 47 Toda la comunidad de Israel celebrará la Pascua. 48 Y si el inmigrante que vive con ustedes quiere celebrar la Pascua en honor del Señor, antes deberá circuncidar a todos los varones de su familia. Después de esto podrá celebrar la Pascua como uno más de ustedes. Pero ningún incircunciso participará de la Pascua. 49 Habrá una misma ley para los nativos y para los inmigrantes que habiten entre ustedes.
50 Los israelitas lo hicieron todo según lo ordenado por el Señor a Moisés y Aarón. 51 Y aquel mismo día, el Señor sacó de Egipto a los israelitas como un ejército en orden de batalla.

The First Passover Instituted
12 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt: 2 This month shall mark for you the beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year for you. 3 Tell the whole congregation of Israel that on the tenth of this month they are to take a lamb for each family, a lamb for each household. 4 If a household is too small for a whole lamb, it shall join its closest neighbor in obtaining one; the lamb shall be divided in proportion to the number of people who eat of it. 5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a year-old male; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats. 6 You shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month; then the whole assembled congregation of Israel shall slaughter it at twilight. 7 They shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. 8 They shall eat the lamb that same night; they shall eat it roasted over the fire with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. 9 Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted over the fire, with its head, legs, and inner organs. 10 You shall let none of it remain until the morning; anything that remains until the morning you shall burn. 11 This is how you shall eat it: your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it hurriedly. It is the passover of the Lord. 12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike down every firstborn in the land of Egypt, both human beings and animals; on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord. 13 The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live: when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague shall destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
14 This day shall be a day of remembrance for you. You shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord; throughout your generations you shall observe it as a perpetual ordinance. 15 Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread; on the first day you shall remove leaven from your houses, for whoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day shall be cut off from Israel. 16 On the first day you shall hold a solemn assembly, and on the seventh day a solemn assembly; no work shall be done on those days; only what everyone must eat, that alone may be prepared by you. 17 You shall observe the festival of unleavened bread, for on this very day I brought your companies out of the land of Egypt: you shall observe this day throughout your generations as a perpetual ordinance. 18 In the first month, from the evening of the fourteenth day until the evening of the twenty-first day, you shall eat unleavened bread. 19 For seven days no leaven shall be found in your houses; for whoever eats what is leavened shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether an alien or a native of the land. 20 You shall eat nothing leavened; in all your settlements you shall eat unleavened bread.
21 Then Moses called all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go, select lambs for your families, and slaughter the passover lamb. 22 Take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and touch the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood in the basin. None of you shall go outside the door of your house until morning. 23 For the Lord will pass through to strike down the Egyptians; when he sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over that door and will not allow the destroyer to enter your houses to strike you down. 24 You shall observe this rite as a perpetual ordinance for you and your children. 25 When you come to the land that the Lord will give you, as he has promised, you shall keep this observance. 26 And when your children ask you, ‘What do you mean by this observance?’ 27 you shall say, ‘It is the passover sacrifice to the Lord, for he passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt, when he struck down the Egyptians but spared our houses.’” And the people bowed down and worshiped.
28 The Israelites went and did just as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron.
The Tenth Plague: Death of the Firstborn
29 At midnight the Lord struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the prisoner who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of the livestock. 30 Pharaoh arose in the night, he and all his officials and all the Egyptians; and there was a loud cry in Egypt, for there was not a house without someone dead. 31 Then he summoned Moses and Aaron in the night, and said, “Rise up, go away from my people, both you and the Israelites! Go, worship the Lord, as you said. 32 Take your flocks and your herds, as you said, and be gone. And bring a blessing on me too!”
The Exodus: From Rameses to Succoth
33 The Egyptians urged the people to hasten their departure from the land, for they said, “We shall all be dead.” 34 So the people took their dough before it was leavened, with their kneading bowls wrapped up in their cloaks on their shoulders. 35 The Israelites had done as Moses told them; they had asked the Egyptians for jewelry of silver and gold, and for clothing, 36 and the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked. And so they plundered the Egyptians.
37 The Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides children. 38 A mixed crowd also went up with them, and livestock in great numbers, both flocks and herds. 39 They baked unleavened cakes of the dough that they had brought out of Egypt; it was not leavened, because they were driven out of Egypt and could not wait, nor had they prepared any provisions for themselves.
40 The time that the Israelites had lived in Egypt was four hundred thirty years. 41 At the end of four hundred thirty years, on that very day, all the companies of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt. 42 That was for the Lord a night of vigil, to bring them out of the land of Egypt. That same night is a vigil to be kept for the Lord by all the Israelites throughout their generations.
Directions for the Passover
43 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron: This is the ordinance for the passover: no foreigner shall eat of it, 44 but any slave who has been purchased may eat of it after he has been circumcised; 45 no bound or hired servant may eat of it. 46 It shall be eaten in one house; you shall not take any of the animal outside the house, and you shall not break any of its bones. 47 The whole congregation of Israel shall celebrate it. 48 If an alien who resides with you wants to celebrate the passover to the Lord, all his males shall be circumcised; then he may draw near to celebrate it; he shall be regarded as a native of the land. But no uncircumcised person shall eat of it; 49 there shall be one law for the native and for the alien who resides among you.
50 All the Israelites did just as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron. 51 That very day the Lord brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt, company by company.

The Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread(A)
12 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, 2 “This month is to be for you the first month,(B) the first month of your year. 3 Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb[a](C) for his family, one for each household.(D) 4 If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with their nearest neighbor, having taken into account the number of people there are. You are to determine the amount of lamb needed in accordance with what each person will eat. 5 The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect,(E) and you may take them from the sheep or the goats. 6 Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month,(F) when all the members of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight.(G) 7 Then they are to take some of the blood(H) and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs. 8 That same night(I) they are to eat the meat roasted(J) over the fire, along with bitter herbs,(K) and bread made without yeast.(L) 9 Do not eat the meat raw or boiled in water, but roast it over a fire—with the head, legs and internal organs.(M) 10 Do not leave any of it till morning;(N) if some is left till morning, you must burn it. 11 This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste;(O) it is the Lord’s Passover.(P)
12 “On that same night I will pass through(Q) Egypt and strike down(R) every firstborn(S) of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods(T) of Egypt. I am the Lord.(U) 13 The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over(V) you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.(W)
14 “This is a day you are to commemorate;(X) for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord—a lasting ordinance.(Y) 15 For seven days you are to eat bread made without yeast.(Z) On the first day remove the yeast from your houses, for whoever eats anything with yeast in it from the first day through the seventh must be cut off(AA) from Israel. 16 On the first day hold a sacred assembly, and another one on the seventh day. Do no work(AB) at all on these days, except to prepare food for everyone to eat; that is all you may do.
17 “Celebrate the Festival of Unleavened Bread,(AC) because it was on this very day that I brought your divisions out of Egypt.(AD) Celebrate this day as a lasting ordinance for the generations to come.(AE) 18 In the first month(AF) you are to eat bread made without yeast, from the evening of the fourteenth day until the evening of the twenty-first day. 19 For seven days no yeast is to be found in your houses. And anyone, whether foreigner(AG) or native-born, who eats anything with yeast in it must be cut off(AH) from the community of Israel. 20 Eat nothing made with yeast. Wherever you live,(AI) you must eat unleavened bread.”(AJ)
21 Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go at once and select the animals for your families and slaughter the Passover(AK) lamb. 22 Take a bunch of hyssop,(AL) dip it into the blood in the basin and put some of the blood(AM) on the top and on both sides of the doorframe. None of you shall go out of the door of your house until morning. 23 When the Lord goes through the land to strike(AN) down the Egyptians, he will see the blood(AO) on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over(AP) that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer(AQ) to enter your houses and strike you down.
24 “Obey these instructions as a lasting ordinance(AR) for you and your descendants. 25 When you enter the land(AS) that the Lord will give you as he promised, observe this ceremony. 26 And when your children(AT) ask you, ‘What does this ceremony mean to you?’ 27 then tell them, ‘It is the Passover(AU) sacrifice to the Lord, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes when he struck down the Egyptians.’”(AV) Then the people bowed down and worshiped.(AW) 28 The Israelites did just what the Lord commanded(AX) Moses and Aaron.
29 At midnight(AY) the Lord(AZ) struck down all the firstborn(BA) in Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all the livestock(BB) as well. 30 Pharaoh and all his officials and all the Egyptians got up during the night, and there was loud wailing(BC) in Egypt, for there was not a house without someone dead.
The Exodus
31 During the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go, worship(BD) the Lord as you have requested. 32 Take your flocks and herds,(BE) as you have said, and go. And also bless(BF) me.”
33 The Egyptians urged the people to hurry(BG) and leave(BH) the country. “For otherwise,” they said, “we will all die!”(BI) 34 So the people took their dough before the yeast was added, and carried it on their shoulders in kneading troughs(BJ) wrapped in clothing. 35 The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold(BK) and for clothing.(BL) 36 The Lord had made the Egyptians favorably disposed(BM) toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered(BN) the Egyptians.
37 The Israelites journeyed from Rameses(BO) to Sukkoth.(BP) There were about six hundred thousand men(BQ) on foot, besides women and children. 38 Many other people(BR) went up with them, and also large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds. 39 With the dough the Israelites had brought from Egypt, they baked loaves of unleavened bread. The dough was without yeast because they had been driven out(BS) of Egypt and did not have time to prepare food for themselves.
40 Now the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt[b] was 430 years.(BT) 41 At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the Lord’s divisions(BU) left Egypt.(BV) 42 Because the Lord kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt, on this night all the Israelites are to keep vigil to honor the Lord for the generations to come.(BW)
Passover Restrictions
43 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “These are the regulations for the Passover meal:(BX)
“No foreigner(BY) may eat it. 44 Any slave you have bought may eat it after you have circumcised(BZ) him, 45 but a temporary resident or a hired worker(CA) may not eat it.
46 “It must be eaten inside the house; take none of the meat outside the house. Do not break any of the bones.(CB) 47 The whole community of Israel must celebrate it.
48 “A foreigner residing among you who wants to celebrate the Lord’s Passover must have all the males in his household circumcised; then he may take part like one born in the land.(CC) No uncircumcised(CD) male may eat it. 49 The same law applies both to the native-born and to the foreigner(CE) residing among you.”
50 All the Israelites did just what the Lord had commanded(CF) Moses and Aaron. 51 And on that very day the Lord brought the Israelites out of Egypt(CG) by their divisions.(CH)
