9 And Elisha the prophet called one of ^(A)the sons of the prophets, and said to him, ^(B)“Get^[a] yourself ready, take this flask of oil in your hand, ^(C)and go to Ramoth Gilead.

Samuel Anoints Saul

10 Then ^(A)Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head, ^(B)and kissed him and said: “Is it not because ^(C)the Lord has anointed you commander over ^(D)His ^[a]inheritance?

²⁹ Then he said to Gehazi, ^(A)“Get^[a] yourself ready, and take my staff in your hand, and be on your way. If you meet anyone, ^(B)do not greet him; and if anyone greets you, do not answer him; but ^(C)lay my staff on the face of the child.”

²⁸ Now he went ^(A)with Joram the son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Syria at ^(B)Ramoth Gilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram. ²⁹ Then ^(C)King Joram went back to Jezreel to recover from the wounds which the Syrians had inflicted on him at ^[a]Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. ^(D)And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

⁴⁶ Then the ^(A)hand of the Lord came upon Elijah; and he ^(B)girded^[a] up his loins and ran ahead of Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

³⁹ Then Zadok the priest took a horn of ^(A)oil from the tabernacle and ^(B)anointed Solomon. And they blew the horn, ^(C)and all the people said, ^[a]“Long live King Solomon!”

16 Now the Lord said to Samuel, ^(A)“How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? ^(B)Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to ^(C)Jesse the Bethlehemite. For ^(D)I have ^[a]provided Myself a king among his sons.”

Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them.
