¹⁷ The king had appointed the captain, his right-hand man,^(A) to be in charge of the city gate, but the people trampled him in the gate. He died, just as the man of God had predicted when the king had come to him.

¹⁹ When shadows began to fall on the city gates of Jerusalem just before the Sabbath, I gave orders that the city gates be closed and not opened until after the Sabbath.^(A) I posted some of my men at the gates, so that no goods could enter during the Sabbath day.^(B)

²² Then I instructed the Levites to purify themselves^(A) and guard the city gates in order to keep the Sabbath day holy.^(B)

Remember me for this also, my God,^(C) and look on me with compassion according to the abundance of your faithful love.^(D)
