Hezekiah’s Illness(A)
20 In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”
2 Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, 3 “Remember,(B) Lord, how I have walked(C) before you faithfully(D) and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
4 Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the Lord came to him: 5 “Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard(E) your prayer and seen your tears;(F) I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord. 6 I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend(G) this city for my sake and for the sake of my servant David.’”
7 Then Isaiah said, “Prepare a poultice of figs.” They did so and applied it to the boil,(H) and he recovered.
8 Hezekiah had asked Isaiah, “What will be the sign that the Lord will heal me and that I will go up to the temple of the Lord on the third day from now?”
9 Isaiah answered, “This is the Lord’s sign(I) to you that the Lord will do what he has promised: Shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or shall it go back ten steps?”
10 “It is a simple(J) matter for the shadow to go forward ten steps,” said Hezekiah. “Rather, have it go back ten steps.”
11 Then the prophet Isaiah called on the Lord, and the Lord made the shadow go back(K) the ten steps it had gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.
Envoys From Babylon(L)(M)
12 At that time Marduk-Baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent Hezekiah letters and a gift, because he had heard of Hezekiah’s illness. 13 Hezekiah received the envoys and showed them all that was in his storehouses—the silver, the gold, the spices and the fine olive oil—his armory and everything found among his treasures. There was nothing in his palace or in all his kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them.
14 Then Isaiah the prophet went to King Hezekiah and asked, “What did those men say, and where did they come from?”
“From a distant land,” Hezekiah replied. “They came from Babylon.”
15 The prophet asked, “What did they see in your palace?”
“They saw everything in my palace,” Hezekiah said. “There is nothing among my treasures that I did not show them.”
16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the Lord: 17 The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your predecessors have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon.(N) Nothing will be left, says the Lord. 18 And some of your descendants,(O) your own flesh and blood who will be born to you, will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”(P)
19 “The word of the Lord you have spoken is good,” Hezekiah replied. For he thought, “Will there not be peace and security in my lifetime?”
20 As for the other events of Hezekiah’s reign, all his achievements and how he made the pool(Q) and the tunnel(R) by which he brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 21 Hezekiah rested with his ancestors. And Manasseh his son succeeded him as king.

20 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.
2 Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the Lord, saying,
3 I beseech thee, O Lord, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.
4 And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the Lord came to him, saying,
5 Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the Lord.
6 And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.
7 And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.
8 And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that the Lord will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the Lord the third day?
9 And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the Lord, that the Lord will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees?
10 And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees.
11 And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the Lord: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz.
12 At that time Berodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah: for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick.
13 And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and shewed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not.
14 Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, even from Babylon.
15 And he said, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All the things that are in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.
16 And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, Hear the word of the Lord.
17 Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the Lord.
18 And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.
19 Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the Lord which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days?
20 And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made a pool, and a conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
21 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers: and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.

Ezekijina bolest i oporavak

20 U to se vrijeme Ezekija nasmrt razbolio. Prorok Izaija, Amosov sin, otišao je k njemu i rekao mu: »BOG ti poručuje da ćeš uskoro umrijeti. Objavi svoju posljednju volju obitelji jer se nećeš oporaviti.«
2 A Ezekija je okrenuo lice k zidu i pomolio se BOGU: 3 »Molim te, BOŽE, sjeti se kako sam ti bio vjeran svim srcem i činio ono što je dobro pred tobom.«
I gorko je zaplakao.
4 Izaija je čuo BOŽJU riječ i prije nego što je izašao iz dvorišta palače: 5 »Vrati se i reci Ezekiji, vladaru mog naroda, što mu poručuje BOG njegovog pretka Davida: ‘Čuo sam tvoju molitvu i vidio tvoje suze. Izliječit ću te. Danas treći dan ići ćeš u BOŽJI Hram. 6 Tvome ću životu dodati petnaest godina. Spasit ću tebe i ovaj grad od kralja Asirije. Učinit ću to zbog sebe i zbog mog sluge Davida.’«
7 Izaija je rekao da se pripremi oblog od smokava i stavi kralju na ranu, kako bi ozdravio.
8 Ezekija upita Izaiju: »Koji je znak da će me BOG izliječiti i da ću već danas treći dan ići u BOŽJI Hram?«
9 Izaija mu odgovori: »Ovo je znak za tebe da će BOG ispuniti što je obećao. Želiš li da se sjena pomakne deset stepenica[a] unaprijed ili deset stepenica unatrag?«
10 »Uobičajeno je da se sjena pomiče unaprijed«, rekao je Ezekija. »Neka se pomakne deset stepenica unatrag.«
11 Prorok Izaija zazvao je BOGA, a on je učinio da se sjena na Ahazovom stubištu pomakne deset stepenica unatrag.
Glasnici iz Babilona
(Iz 39,1-8)
12 U to je vrijeme Babilonom vladao kralj Merodak Baladan, Baladanov sin. Kad je čuo da je Ezekija bio bolestan, poslao mu je pisma i dar. 13 Ezekija je saslušao glasnike i pokazao im sve svoje riznice i sve što je imao u njima. Pokazao im je srebro, zlato, začine, mirisno ulje i oružje. Nije bilo ničega u njegovoj palači niti u čitavom njegovom kraljevstvu što im nije pokazao.
14 Tada je prorok Izaija otišao kralju Ezekiji i upitao ga: »Što su rekli oni ljudi? Odakle su?«
»Iz daleke su zemlje«, odgovorio je Ezekija, »iz Babilona.«
15 Prorok je dalje pitao: »Što su vidjeli u tvojoj palači?«
»Sve su vidjeli u mojoj palači«, odgovorio je Ezekija. »Nema ničega u mojim riznicama što im nisam pokazao.«
16 Tada je Izaija rekao Ezekiji: »Poslušaj BOŽJU poruku: 17 Dolazi vrijeme kad će sve što je u tvojoj palači i sve što su dosad nakupili tvoji preci biti odneseno u Babilon. Ništa neće ostati. Tako kaže BOG. 18 I neki će od tvojih sinova biti odvedeni u Babilon, gdje će postati službenici[b] u palači babilonskoga kralja.«
19 »Dobra je BOŽJA poruka koju si mi objavio«, odgovorio je Ezekija jer je pritom mislio: »Tijekom mog života vladat će mir i sigurnost.«
Kraj Ezekijine vladavine
(2 Ljet 32,32-33)
20 Ostala Ezekijina djela, sve što je postigao, te kako je napravio jezero i vodovod kojim je doveo vodu u grad, zapisani su u knjizi Povijest judejskih kraljeva. 21 Ezekija je umro i sahranjen je pokraj svojih predaka. Njegov je sin Manaše postao sljedeći kralj.

8 And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “What shall be the sign that the Lord will heal me, and that I shall go up to the house of the Lord on the third day?” 9 And Isaiah said, “This shall be (L)the sign to you from the Lord, that the Lord will do the thing that he has promised: shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or go back ten steps?” 10 And Hezekiah answered, “It is an easy thing for the shadow (M)to lengthen ten steps. Rather let the shadow go back ten steps.” 11 And Isaiah the prophet called to the Lord, (N)and he brought the shadow back ten steps, by which it had gone down on the steps of Ahaz.
Hezekiah and the Babylonian Envoys
12 (O)At that time (P)Merodach-baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, (Q)sent envoys with letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he heard that Hezekiah had been sick. 13 And Hezekiah welcomed them, and he showed them (R)all his treasure house, the silver, the gold, the spices, the precious oil, his armory, all that was found in his storehouses.
