23 From there Elisha went up to Bethel.(A) As he was walking up the path, some small boys came out of the city and harassed him,(B) chanting, “Go up, baldy! Go up, baldy!” 24 He turned around, looked at them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord.(C) Then two female bears came out of the woods and mauled 42 of the children. 25 From there Elisha went to Mount Carmel,(D) and then he returned to Samaria.(E)

24 Elisha turned, took one look at them, and cursed them in the name of God. Two bears charged out of the underbrush and knocked them about, ripping them limb from limb—forty-two children in all!

25 Elisha went on to Mount Carmel, and then returned to Samaria.
