Hoshea Reigns in Israel

17 In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah, ^(A)Hoshea the son of Elah became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned nine years. ² And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, but not as the kings of Israel who were before him. ^3 (B)Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against him; and Hoshea ^(C)became his vassal, and paid him tribute money. ⁴ And the king of Assyria uncovered a conspiracy by Hoshea; for he had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and brought no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.

Israel Carried Captive to Assyria^(D)

⁵ Now ^(E)the king of Assyria went throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria and besieged it for three years. ^6 (F)In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria took Samaria and ^(G)carried Israel away to Assyria, ^(H)and placed them in Halah and by the Habor, the River of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

⁷ For ^(I)so it was that the children of Israel had sinned against the Lord their God, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and they had ^(J)feared other gods, ⁸ and ^(K)had walked in the statutes of the nations whom the Lord had cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made. ⁹ Also the children of Israel secretly did against the Lord their God things that were not right, and they built for themselves ^[a]high places in all their cities, ^(L)from watchtower to fortified city. ^10 (M)They set up for themselves sacred pillars and ^(N)wooden images^{[b] (O)}on every high hill and under every green tree. ¹¹ There they burned incense on all the high places, like the nations whom the Lord had carried away before them; and they did wicked things to provoke the Lord to anger, ¹² for they served idols, ^(P)of which the Lord had said to them, ^(Q)“You shall not do this thing.”

¹³ Yet the Lord testified against Israel and against Judah, by all of His ^(R)prophets, ^(S)every seer, saying, ^(T)“Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by My servants the prophets.” ¹⁴ Nevertheless they would not hear, but ^(U)stiffened their necks, like the necks of their fathers, who ^(V)did not believe in the Lord their God.

Water from the Rock^(A)

17 Then ^(B)all the congregation of the children of Israel set out on their journey from the Wilderness of ^(C)Sin, according to the commandment of the Lord, and camped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to ^(D)drink. ^2 (E)Therefore the people contended with Moses, and said, “Give us water, that we may drink.”

So Moses said to them, “Why do you contend with me? Why do you ^(F)tempt the Lord?”

³ And the people thirsted there for water, and the people ^(G)complained against Moses, and said, “Why is it you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our ^(H)livestock with thirst?”

⁴ So Moses ^(I)cried out to the Lord, saying, “What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to ^(J)stone^[a] me!”

⁵ And the Lord said to Moses, ^(K)“Go on before the people, and take with you some of the elders of Israel. Also take in your hand your rod with which ^(L)you struck the river, and go. ^6 (M)Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.”

And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. ⁷ So he called the name of the place ^(N)Massah^[b] and ^[c]Meribah, because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they ^[d]tempted the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”

Victory over the Amalekites^(O)

^8 (P)Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. ⁹ And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with ^(Q)the rod of God in my hand.” ¹⁰ So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. ¹¹ And so it was, when Moses ^(R)held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. ¹² But Moses’ hands became ^[e]heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. ¹³ So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

¹⁴ Then the Lord said to Moses, ^(S)“Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that ^(T)I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.” ¹⁵ And Moses built an altar and called its name, ^[f]The-Lord-Is-My-Banner; ¹⁶ for he said, “Because ^[g]the Lord has ^(U)sworn: the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”

Satan Bound 1,000 Years

20 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, ^(A)having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. ² He laid hold of ^(B)the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; ³ and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and ^(C)set a seal on him, ^(D)so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.

The Saints Reign with Christ 1,000 Years

⁴ And I saw ^(E)thrones, and they sat on them, and ^(F)judgment was committed to them. Then I saw ^(G)the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, ^(H)who had not worshiped the beast ^(I)or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they ^(J)lived and ^(K)reigned with Christ for ^[a]a thousand years. ⁵ But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. ⁶ Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such ^(L)the second death has no power, but they shall be ^(M)priests of God and of Christ, ^(N)and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

Satanic Rebellion Crushed^(O)

⁷ Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison ⁸ and will go out ^(P)to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, ^(Q)Gog and Magog, ^(R)to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. ^9 (S)They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. ¹⁰ The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone ^(T)where^[b] the beast and the false prophet are. And they ^(U)will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

The Great White Throne Judgment

¹¹ Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face ^(V)the earth and the heaven fled away. ^(W)And there was found no place for them. ¹² And I saw the dead, ^(X)small and great, standing before ^[c]God, ^(Y)and books were opened. And another ^(Z)book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged ^(AA)according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. ¹³ The sea gave up the dead who were in it, ^(AB)and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. ^(AC)And they were judged, each one according to his works. ¹⁴ Then ^(AD)Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. ^(AE)This is the second ^[d]death. ¹⁵ And anyone not found written in the Book of Life ^(AF)was cast into the lake of fire.
