13 На двадцать третьем году правления иудейского царя Иоаша, сына Охозии, царем Израиля стал Иоахаз, сын Ииуя, и правил в Самарии семнадцать лет. 2 Он делал зло в глазах Господа, следуя грехам Иеровоама, сына Навата, к которым тот склонил Израиль, и не отворачивался от них. 3 Гнев Господа вспыхнул на Израиль, и долгое время Он держал их во власти Хазаила, царя Арама, и его сына Венадада[a].
4 Но Иоахаз взмолился Господу, и Господь услышал его, ведь Он видел, как жестоко царь Арама притесняет Израиль. 5 Господь дал Израилю избавителя, и они вышли из-под власти Арама. Израильтяне стали мирно жить в домах, как и прежде. 6 И все же они не отвернулись от грехов дома Иеровоама, к которым тот склонил Израиль, но оставались в них. 14 Елисей был смертельно болен. Иоаш, царь Израиля, пришел навестить его и плакал над ним.

Jehoahaz King of Israel
13 In the twenty-third year of Joash son of Ahaziah king of Judah, Jehoahaz son of Jehu became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned seventeen years. 2 He did evil(A) in the eyes of the Lord by following the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit, and he did not turn away from them. 3 So the Lord’s anger(B) burned against Israel, and for a long time he kept them under the power(C) of Hazael king of Aram and Ben-Hadad(D) his son.
4 Then Jehoahaz sought(E) the Lord’s favor, and the Lord listened to him, for he saw(F) how severely the king of Aram was oppressing(G) Israel. 5 The Lord provided a deliverer(H) for Israel, and they escaped from the power of Aram. So the Israelites lived in their own homes as they had before. 6 But they did not turn away from the sins(I) of the house of Jeroboam, which he had caused Israel to commit; they continued in them. Also, the Asherah pole[a](J) remained standing in Samaria.
7 Nothing had been left(K) of the army of Jehoahaz except fifty horsemen, ten chariots and ten thousand foot soldiers, for the king of Aram had destroyed the rest and made them like the dust(L) at threshing time.
8 As for the other events of the reign of Jehoahaz, all he did and his achievements, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel? 9 Jehoahaz rested with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria. And Jehoash[b] his son succeeded him as king.

10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash son of Jehoahaz became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned sixteen years. 11 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord and did not turn away from any of the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit; he continued in them.
12 As for the other events of the reign of Jehoash, all he did and his achievements, including his war against Amaziah(M) king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the annals(N) of the kings of Israel? 13 Jehoash rested with his ancestors, and Jeroboam(O) succeeded him on the throne. Jehoash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.
14 Now Elisha had been suffering from the illness from which he died. Jehoash king of Israel went down to see him and wept over him. “My father! My father!” he cried. “The chariots(P) and horsemen of Israel!”
15 Elisha said, “Get a bow and some arrows,”(Q) and he did so. 16 “Take the bow in your hands,” he said to the king of Israel. When he had taken it, Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands.
17 “Open the east window,” he said, and he opened it. “Shoot!”(R) Elisha said, and he shot. “The Lord’s arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Aram!” Elisha declared. “You will completely destroy the Arameans at Aphek.”(S)
18 Then he said, “Take the arrows,” and the king took them. Elisha told him, “Strike the ground.” He struck it three times and stopped. 19 The man of God was angry with him and said, “You should have struck the ground five or six times; then you would have defeated Aram and completely destroyed it. But now you will defeat it only three times.”(T)
20 Elisha died and was buried.
Now Moabite raiders(U) used to enter the country every spring. 21 Once while some Israelites were burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders; so they threw the man’s body into Elisha’s tomb. When the body touched Elisha’s bones, the man came to life(V) and stood up on his feet.
22 Hazael king of Aram oppressed(W) Israel throughout the reign of Jehoahaz. 23 But the Lord was gracious to them and had compassion and showed concern for them because of his covenant(X) with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. To this day he has been unwilling to destroy(Y) them or banish them from his presence.(Z)
24 Hazael king of Aram died, and Ben-Hadad(AA) his son succeeded him as king. 25 Then Jehoash son of Jehoahaz recaptured from Ben-Hadad son of Hazael the towns he had taken in battle from his father Jehoahaz. Three times(AB) Jehoash defeated him, and so he recovered(AC) the Israelite towns.

13 In the three and twentieth year of Joash the son of Ahaziah king of Judah Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years.
2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.
3 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael, all their days.
4 And Jehoahaz besought the Lord, and the Lord hearkened unto him: for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.
5 (And the Lord gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as beforetime.
6 Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, but walked therein: and there remained the grove also in Samaria.)
7 Neither did he leave of the people to Jehoahaz but fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like the dust by threshing.
8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
9 And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash his son reigned in his stead.

14 Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.
15 And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows.
16 And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king's hands.
17 And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the Lord's deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.
18 And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed.
19 And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.
20 And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.
21 And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.
22 But Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.
23 And the Lord was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.
24 So Hazael king of Syria died; and Benhadad his son reigned in his stead.
25 And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.

2 Han gjorde det som var ont i Herrens ögon och levde i de synder genom vilka Jerobeam, Nebats son, hade kommit Israel att synda. Från dem avstod han inte. 3 Då upptändes Herrens vrede mot Israel, och han gav dem i händerna på Hasael, den arameiske kungen och Ben-Hadad, Hasaels son, under hela denna tid. 4 Men Joahas bönföll inför Herren och Herren hörde honom, eftersom han såg Israels olycka, då kungen i Aram förtryckte dem. 5 Herren gav åt Israel en befriare så att de kom undan arameernas hand. Han vände sig inte bort från någon av de synder genom vilka Jerobeam, Nebats son, hade kommit Israel att synda, utan levde i dem. 12 Vad som mer finns att säga om Joas, om allt det han gjorde och om hans bedrifter, om hans krig mot Amasja, Juda kung, det är skrivet i Israels kungars krönika. 13 Joas gick till vila hos sina fäder, och Jerobeam besteg hans tron. Joas blev begravd i Samaria hos Israels kungar.
Elisa dör
14 När Elisa låg sjuk i den sjukdom som han dog av, kom Joas, Israels kung, ner till honom. Han satte sig gråtande hos honom och sade: "Min fader, min fader! Du som för Israel är både vagnar och ryttare!" 15 Då sade Elisa till honom: "Hämta en båge och pilar!" Han hämtade en båge och pilar åt honom. 16 Och han sade till Israels kung: "Fatta bågen med din hand!" När han hade gjort detta, lade Elisa sina händer på kungens händer. 17 Sedan sade han: "Öppna fönstret mot öster!" När han hade öppnat det, sade Elisa: "Skjut!" Och han sköt. Då sade han: "En Herrens segerpil, en segerpil mot Aram! Du skall slå arameerna vid Afek, så att de förgås." 18 Sedan sade han: "Tag pilarna!" När han hade tagit dem, sade han till Israels kung: "Slå på jorden!" Denne slog tre gånger, och sedan slutade han. 19 Då blev gudsmannen vred på honom och sade: "Du skulle ha slagit fem eller sex gånger, ty då skulle du ha slagit arameerna, så att de hade blivit tillintetgjorda. Nu kommer du att slå arameerna bara tre gånger."
20 Elisa dog och man begravde honom. Nu brukade moabitiska strövskaror vid årets början falla in i landet. 21 Så hände sig att just när några höll på att begrava en man, fick de se en strövskara. Då kastade de mannen i Elisas grav. När mannen kom i beröring med Elisas ben, fick han liv igen och reste sig upp på sina fötter.

22 Hasael, kungen i Aram, hade förtryckt Israel så länge Joahas levde. 23 Men Herren visade dem nåd och förbarmade sig över dem och vände sig till dem på grund av det förbund som han hade slutit med Abraham, Isak och Jakob. Ty han ville inte fördärva dem och han hade ännu inte kastat bort dem från sitt ansikte.
24 Hasael, kungen i Aram, dog, och hans son Ben-Hadad blev kung efter honom. 25 Då tog Joas, Joahas son, tillbaka från Ben-Hadad, Hasaels son, de städer denne hade tagit från hans fader Joahas i krig. Tre gånger slog Joas honom och tog så tillbaka Israels städer.
