⁶ So he arose and went into the house. And the young man poured the oil on his head, saying to him, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ^(A)I anoint you king over the people of the Lord, over Israel.

⁷ But it was ordained by^[a] God that the downfall of Ahaziah should come about through his going to visit Joram. For when he came there, ^(A)he went out with Jehoram to meet Jehu the son of Nimshi, ^(B)whom the Lord had anointed to destroy the house of Ahab.

³ Then take the flask of oil and pour it on his head and say, ‘Thus says the Lord, ^(A)I anoint you king over Israel.’ Then open the door and flee; do not linger.”

^16 (A)And Jehu the son of Nimshi you shall anoint to be king over Israel, and ^(B)Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah you shall anoint to be prophet in your place.

¹⁸ So he took him and brought him to the tribune and said, “Paul ^(A)the prisoner called me and asked me to bring this young man to you, as he has something to say to you.” ¹⁹ The tribune took him by the hand, and going aside asked him privately, “What is it that you have to tell me?”

²⁰ But ^(A)when his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, ^(B)he was brought down from his kingly throne, and his glory was taken from him. ^21 (C)He was driven from among the children of mankind, and his mind was made like that of a beast, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. He was fed grass like an ox, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, ^(D)until he knew that the ^(E)Most High God rules the kingdom of mankind and sets over it whom he will.

^32 (A)and you shall be driven from among men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. And you shall be made to eat grass like an ox, and seven periods of time shall pass over you, ^(B)until you know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will.”

¹⁷ The sentence is by the decree of ^(A)the watchers, the decision by the word of ^(B)the holy ones, to the end that the living may know that the Most High ^(C)rules the kingdom of men ^(D)and gives it to whom he will and ^(E)sets over it the lowliest of men.’
