Jehu Executes Jezebel

³⁰ When Jehu came to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it. And ^(A)she painted her eyes and adorned her head and looked out of the window.

⁴⁰ They even sent for men to come from afar, ^(A)to whom a messenger was sent; and behold, they came. For them you bathed yourself, ^(B)painted your eyes, ^(C)and adorned yourself with ornaments.

¹⁷ Sigh, but not aloud; make no mourning for the dead. ^(A)Bind on your turban, and ^(B)put your shoes on your feet; do not cover your lips, ^(C)nor eat the bread of men.”

^3 (A)Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear—

⁹ likewise also ^(A)that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, ^10 (B)but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.

¹⁸ In that day the Lord will take away ^(A)the finery of the anklets, the ^(B)headbands, and the ^(C)crescents; ¹⁹ the pendants, the bracelets, and the scarves; ²⁰ the ^(D)headdresses, the armlets, the sashes, the perfume boxes, and the amulets; ²¹ the signet rings and ^(E)nose rings; ²² the ^(F)festal robes, the mantles, the cloaks, and the handbags; ²³ the mirrors, the linen garments, the turbans, and the veils.

Elijah Flees Jezebel

19 Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how ^(A)he had killed all the prophets with the sword. ² Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, ^(B)“So may the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.”
