²² And when Joram saw Jehu, he said, “Is it peace, Jehu?” He answered, “What peace can there be, so long as ^(A)the whorings and the sorceries of your mother Jezebel are so many?”

³⁰ And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord, ^(A)more than all who were before him. ³¹ And as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, ^(B)he took for his wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the ^(C)Sidonians, ^(D)and went and served Baal and worshiped him. ³² He erected an altar for Baal in ^(E)the house of Baal, which he built in Samaria. ³³ And Ahab made an ^(F)Asherah. Ahab did more to provoke the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger ^(G)than all the kings of Israel who were before him.

^13 (A)but have walked in the way of the kings of Israel and have enticed Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem ^(B)into whoredom, ^(C)as the house of Ahab led Israel into whoredom, and also you ^(D)have killed your brothers, of your father's house, who were better than you,

²⁰ But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman ^(A)Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants ^(B)to practice sexual immorality and ^(C)to eat food sacrificed to idols. ²¹ I gave her time to repent, but ^(D)she refuses to repent of her sexual immorality. ²² Behold, I will throw her onto a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her I will throw into great tribulation, unless they repent of her works, ²³ and I will strike her children dead. And all the churches will know that I am he ^(E)who searches mind and heart, and ^(F)I will give to each of you according to your works.

¹⁸ So a man on horseback went to meet him and said, “Thus says the king, ‘Is it peace?’” And Jehu said, “What do you have to do with peace? Turn around and ride behind me.” And the watchman reported, saying, “The messenger reached them, but he is not coming back.”
