Joram of Israel Killed

¹⁴ So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi, conspired against ^(A)Joram. (Now Joram had been defending Ramoth Gilead, he and all Israel, against Hazael king of Syria.

²⁸ Now he went ^(A)with Joram the son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Syria at ^(B)Ramoth Gilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram.

³ And the king of Israel said to his servants, “Do you know that ^(A)Ramoth in Gilead is ours, but we hesitate to take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?”

³⁰ Then Hoshea the son of Elah led a conspiracy against Pekah the son of Remaliah, and struck and killed him; so he ^(A)reigned in his place in the twentieth year of Jotham the son of Uzziah.

⁹ So it was, in the morning, that he went out and stood, and said to all the people, “You are righteous. Indeed ^(A)I conspired against my master and killed him; but who killed all these?

³¹ Then, as Jehu entered at the gate, she said, ^(A)“Is it peace, Zimri, murderer of your master?”

¹² And Hazael said, “Why is my lord weeping?”

He answered, “Because I know ^(A)the evil that you will do to the children of Israel: Their strongholds you will set on fire, and their young men you will kill with the sword; and you ^(B)will dash their children, and rip open their women with child.”

¹³ So Hazael said, “But what ^(C)is your servant—a dog, that he should do this gross thing?”

And Elisha answered, ^(D)“The Lord has shown me that you will become king over Syria.”

¹⁴ Then he departed from Elisha, and came to his master, who said to him, “What did Elisha say to you?” And he answered, “He told me you would surely recover.” ¹⁵ But it happened on the next day that he took a thick cloth and dipped it in water, and spread it over his face so that he died; and Hazael reigned in his place.

¹⁶ Now the people who were encamped heard it said, “Zimri has conspired and also has killed the king.” So all Israel made Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel that day in the camp.

^9 (A)Now his servant Zimri, commander of half his chariots, conspired against him as he was in Tirzah drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, ^(B)steward^[a] of his house in Tirzah.

⁷ And also the word of the Lord came by the prophet ^(A)Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha and his house, because of all the evil that he did in the sight of the Lord in provoking Him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Jeroboam, and because ^(B)he killed them.
