Death of Ben-Hadad

⁷ Then Elisha went to Damascus, and ^(A)Ben-Hadad king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, “The man of God has come here.”

Syria Besieges Samaria in Famine

²⁴ And it happened after this that ^(A)Ben-Hadad king of Syria gathered all his army, and went up and besieged Samaria.

²⁴ So he gathered men to him and became captain over a band of raiders, ^(A)when David killed those of Zobah. And they went to Damascus and dwelt there, and reigned in Damascus.

Ahab Defeats the Syrians

20 Now ^(A)Ben-Hadad the king of Syria gathered all his forces together; thirty-two kings were with him, with horses and chariots. And he went up and besieged ^(B)Samaria, and made war against it.

⁶ But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, ^(A)“These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.

¹² And one of his servants said, “None, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.”

¹⁵ Now when the sons of the prophets who were ^(A)from^[a] Jericho saw him, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they came to meet him, and bowed to the ground before him.

⁹ Then the king sent to him a captain of fifty with his fifty men. So he went up to him; and there he was, sitting on the top of a hill. And he spoke to him: “Man of God, the king has said, ‘Come down!’ ”

¹⁰ So Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, then ^(A)let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.” And fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

³⁴ So Ben-Hadad said to him, ^(A)“The cities which my father took from your father I will restore; and you may set up marketplaces for yourself in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria.”

Then Ahab said, “I will send you away with this treaty.” So he made a treaty with him and sent him away.
